Advice on Medi Guard roaming build
the build you gave him looks very good. except he needs more crit chance. try to push for at least 50% with food and accessories which I think he will get in time with the ascended ones.

I don’t see anything wrong with it; 6% less crit chance, 19% less crit dmg and 60 less power for 2,27k health and 295 more armour compared to a full berserk exotic variation… He should be good to go to start with this (losing crits on a powermedi is always a big thing though)
Looks good to me. The build wouldn’t fair poorly in roaming or in a zerg fight so it’s a nice middle ground. I would trade out some power and sneak some more precision in there so you’re closer to the 50% mark like Eremite suggested.
Fiery wrath is something I have never untraited on my Guardian since I do notice a good damage drop whenever I haven’t taken it. Selfless Daring is only valuable if you have a nice amount of healing power (400+) which my roaming build does. I’ve dropped a link for my roamer below if you want to compare:

I think as a new player, he would be better off with larger hp pool from 5 into honor, with Writ of Exaltion and Two-Handed mastery. I think it’ll be easier to utilize, althous somewhat lacking condi clear. Ontop of that, I’d suggest replacing Focused Mind with Retributive armor or Purity, since it somewhat tricky to utilize effectively.

Smite Condition and Contemplation of Purity are enough condition removal for most scenarios and I’d keep Focused Mind since Retributive armor is lack luster and it honestly isn’t hard to use. Going for a Whirling wrath? Use Judges Intervention to get right on-top of them, give fury and utilise Fiery Wrath trait.
If you find conditions giving you some seriously problem them take Purity but Focused Mind is the better trait overall.

He reaches up to 44% crit chance by just changing the stone to an oil, which I think it’s just fine as a mediguard (while being somewhat tanky, of course).
I made him the ascended version: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQNAR7dlsApaodDxcI8DVR8QlZK+i2UVAgz1/QQkDA-TVDGABDqCib7PckyAjUS9oqABqyARKVEUNiy0NAwTAoCNMHcRA8TJYAAEgbezsZbGc0je0je0j2Rv5Nv5NPapAeaCA-w
45% crit chance, which I think should be enough to retain that tankiness, I changed Air and Fire sigils for blood ones (or maybe leeching would be better?), becouse more sustain… why not?
If that crit chance is not enough I’ll tell him to try and change some stuff around. I’m glad it’s at least a decent build, thanks for your answers!

Honestly, my advice would be to not run GS. It’s really pretty lackluster in WvW since it’s really only good for point control, and without a point to fight over people can simply run away from it. My preferred setup is to run a sword/scepter build with 6 in Radiance. RHS in Radiance allows me to forego extra precision in favor of vitality with Valkyrie gear, and sword and scepter provide a more mobile source of damage than GS.

Greatsword is great as it has a leap that doesn’t require you to have a target like the teleporting skills. I often use it to disengage and really couldn’t see myself doing WvW without it.

I’d rather have two weapons that can hit a moving target so I don’t have to worry about disengaging as much.
