Looking to see if anyone else is running a similar build to the one I came up with to see if I was ether on to something or… not

I was thinking about raids & what each profession could bring to earn their spot, I figured only bringing max power based DPS wasn’t going to cut it

Inspired by seeing Mesmers with Alacrity I though ‘What can Guardians bring that no one else can?’
Even our go-to projectile blocking might not be enough, it’s not unique & it’s boss dependent

With the changes that came after Beta Weekend 3 & the buffing of our shield I figured Aegis might be the way to go, outside of randomness, it’s unique to Guardians

So here’s my build;
I left the food slots blank as there’s new Heart of Thorn foods that aren’t on the wiki yet & infusion slots are blank as I’m running Fractals a lot so they all have +7 Agony resist in them

Based around Aegis support without (hopefully) sacrificing too much damage

The idea is that this build could perform as a ‘tank’ in raids by mitigating damage through blocks but to keep the damage up for enrage timers
I tried this in beta raid (pre some of the changes that makes this better) & tanked it quite well

Zeal: 2-2-2
Damage increase & two weapons with decent symbol uptime the main difference being Shattered Aegis

Valor: 1-3-3
Aegis & blocking synergy to stack might & Communal Defenses for the Aegis support & more damage from Shattered Aegis

Dragonhunter: 1-1-1
Lots of Aegis support with double fragments of Faith, breaking Break Bars with dazing traps, condition removal & 10% damage reduction

Would welcome some feedback

p.s if you’ve not tried Hunter’s Determination you should, even if you don’t stick with it, it’s fun to have ‘when stunned, break stuns & stun your enemy’ … + aegis & stability for good measure

personally I would ditch valor for honor 1/2/1(2)

if needed you got two on demand cleanses or more uptime on symbols, which probably should even out the lost ferocity. on top the heal fro aegis will keep you above those 90% a bit better. yes you are missing a group aegis every 15 secs and potentially some dps but sinceyou cant control communa defense and it has a short duration I would say its not a big loss.

but well the optionisonly a klick away and is probably better if you are not in a group.

i agree with Asmodal. Honor is way better than valor for an Aegis build. I use Radiance/Honor/DH for my PVE build. Lots of Aegis heals and high crit chance coming from the Radiance line. Spammable F1 from renewed justice also.

The problem with Aegis is that it gets removed no matter if the hit you took was for 100 or 10k damage. From what we have seen in the raid thus far, most of the damage sources are frequent small hits. Aegis doesn’t work very well for that kind of damage.

To make matters worse, the big hits that Aegis would be really good for seem to be from unblockable mechanics.

So if the rest of the fights are anything like the Guardians, then building specifically for Aegis isn’t going to be very effective.

Only time will tell.

That would be the reason for Shattered Aegis and if you take Honor, Pure of Heart. You make Aegis worth being broken for damage and/or healing (unrelated, but if y’all haven’t taken SA and CD to Teq before, it’s hilarious).

I’d agree that for the purposes of what you want to do, Honor would be better than Valor. However for personal tanking, Valor and Honor would be ideal. Zeal vs DH would be up in the air, edge to Zeal I think. Guardians do make fantastic raid tanks.

I feel you’re probably right about Honor but perhaps only in a raid setting otherwise it just feels like a lot of over healing.
