Suppose that an elementalist is summoning meteor storm, and you put symbol of wrath on a cluster of allies. Would the elementalist kill himself by doing this?
He’d take damage for each meteor that connects with a player that has retaliation.
It can get pretty vicious. I’ve for example seen over 20k Retaliation damage in what felt like a short time simply using Grenades on a point.
