Q:
Are L80 Guardians Really Wearing Explorer's Gear?
A:
Speaking as an Armorsmith, Explorer gear goes up to L80 Exotic. Of course that’s definitely wasteful (considering the need for Orichalcum, Gossamer and Ectos) since all you ever get is 18% as Fabsm stated. Just wondering where the intimation Explorer gear was capped at L65 Rare came from.
Of course, nothing’s stopping anyone to have a L80 Rare Explorer set for open world PVE and another set of armor for dungeons or any other content that is actually challenging.
I only do this while farming events. I find that killing monsters outside of events becomes way too slow. With Explorer’s gear on, i can only take on 2-3 mobs max, instead of my usual 6-7.
My opinion is: don’t bother.
Explorer gear (even exotic) is only 18% magic find. Not worth it. Now, if you get 5*Pirate and 1* Traveler Rune, you’re putting on 60% magic find on your favorite armor set.
With a superior Sigil of Luck, it is another 10% (most of the time) magic find, without screwing your stats.
The best of both worlds. Until you have enough money to buy two or more sets and switch when needed (dungeons, pvp, etc).
Guardian of Moonlight Shadow [MLS]
I use level 80 explorer rares with pirate/traveler runes and green opal jewelry (except my exotic knight’s amulet) for farming and I honestly like the extra challenge. Sure it is a bit more dangerous, but as they say no pain, no gain. I also have a full knight’s set with some dungeon pieces for exp dungeons and pvp.
Thanks for the feedback!
@Schakal: I’ve read referrals to Explorers and only have seen the L65 version on the BLTC. My bad for assuming. Thanks for the correction.
