Hi,
Since most dungeon groups look for high dps and little/no brain activity, are support/healing guardians needed or useful anymore? I know the incoming changes to dungeons might make all builds viable..maybe, but do people run these support builds anymore? Or are they more of a slowing detriment to the group than helpful?

hmm, i feel in PvE or even dungeons, if you know the content and encounters well enough, you can go full offense – but, that is on the pretense that your ENTIRE group knows what’s going on as well. healing/support based Guardians will still have a place ni PUGs i feel, if the PUGs happen to need it. so it’s sort of a hit or miss i feel. and you’ll definitely kill slower, which can also lead to PUGs doing not as well the longer you take. so can your healing/support provide for those times in need?

at the same time, i’ve read many people who do still play healing based builds in high level fractals as well. i personally think they are more fun in PvP settings : ))

I play a tank/dps/support guardian in dungeons which seems to work well for me. I modified a build someone else gave me (sorry, don’t remember who, if someone wants to claim it go ahead) and this is it:

http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/guardian/?3.3|1.1n.h1|b.1n.h1.e.1n.h2|1n.7x.1n.7x.1n.7x.1n.7x.1n.7x.1n.7x|4u.d1f.2s.d1e.3s.d1e.1n.67.1n.67.2s.d1e|0.0.u56b.u29c.a6|54.k|v.16.19.13.1i|e

Healing doesn’t seem to work well for this game, and soldiers didn’t give me the DPS I wanted for solo adventuring but this has been working well in dungeons and around the world. I dunno if this is what you were looking for but it has worked for me. It could be viable to play a Cleric guardian and share you virtue of courage. I don’t know how well people would except you though, since a lot of people shun the healer in this game but I have to admit it would help out in a few circumstances.

Depends on your team setup. You can pretty much beat all dungeons with any build if you knew the mechanics.

Support builds are more useful for wvw zerg.

I’m a full healing power / support guardian in pve for half a year now i think.
I find it working very well and helps me and my allies a lot.
Almost perma regeneration on all allies that heal for 350-400 a tick.
And the instant heals heal for a huge load too.
And lots of boons from shouts and virtues

high healling power is a big mistake, and in pve anything works, thats why game dont need anything else than dps with minor side roles.

They should fix the healing power scaling.

I really want to be a supporter, but with this awful healing power scaling (or no scaling at all), I’m heavy despondent.

The only thing that scales well is regeneration T.T

Sorry for my english.

GW2 game design is built around dodging for defense. Thus defensive stats are basically useless. Heal power scales horribly (it scales great…on skills that heal for nothing to begin with…yay 500% of crakitten till crap).

This game would be better off if they only offered berserker gear and scrapped all the rest of it. Imagine all the grief and elitism it would eliminate.

It would take 2160 heal power to get 400/tick regen.

I would hardly call a couple thousand (10% of a warrior’s hp) a “huge load”, not to mention those heals are on longish cooldowns. Our best heal (on dodge) has a pitifully small range, like 2-300.

The boons are nice, but you can get those with more offensive specs as well and only one of them (might) increases damage output.

Yea when i played yesterday i noticed my regen healed for 380 per tick so i’m almost there. Why isn’t there a decent healing power backpack QQ

And i never said i only heal for a couple thousand.
mace every 3rd hit , mace 2 , shield 5 , staff 2 , staff 4 , virtue of resolve , dodge rolls
And then you still have your heal, utlities and elite.

It’s just that i’ve always been the healer in any mmo and i want to do the same in gw2 even though it’s not that much needed as in other games. I still enjoy it a lot and so does my group.

But i still want to try a guardian build where i do lots of dmg but also give lots of might to my group for easy stuff. But still unsure about what gear i want for that.

It is my understanding that Healing is not needed in PvE: Damage Negation is what matters.

However, I don’t PvE, unless it revolves around getting stacks or killing guards!

Now in WvW – HP is incredible.

It’s easy to put out 780+ HPS w/ a guardian: Regen, VoR/Battle Presense, Symbols + Mango.

Your dodge rolls will be doing over 2k and your Empower will go for over 3.1k

Get yourself a hybrid ele and glassy thief and enjoy.

How do you get over 1900 heal power?

All of those heal for less than a couple thousand except for shield 5, staff 4, and VoR active. Those “big” heals are still quite small relative to hp pools and damage output.

From the sound of it Yaki, you’ve never really tried a healing/bunker guardian.

It’s not difficult to get over 1900 HP. It’s not hard to sustain over 600+ HPS on a group, + some good burst healing from combo’s: Staff Orb + Dodge Roll + VoR can get a group of players up 7k, easy.

Staff orb + Dodge roll can do 4k.. and can be done every 8-10s.

Try it out sometime…. your friends will love you: healing

^ is just me messing around, not in optimal gear. I was trying a couple new things out.
