Hi,

I’ve a dream! To battle good damage with 2h GS and still have ok/good healing for my allies.

I’m pretty newbie at this so any pointers would be awesome!

My thinking would be going around with 2h GS and deal damage in the assist train and drop some healing and support for the group, switching to 1h scepter+shield/focus for CC and more supporting spells.

I’ve read that the Valkyrie-armor gives good power+vitality+healing so thinking going for that also, although i’ve never seen it or know anything about it

Ugh. Well. It’s hard to comment cause it’s only half of one. That said, I think your entire investmen in Valor is useless. 5% of Toughness given as a bonus to Precision when you have no base Precision to begin with? That won’t make much of a dent I fear. Same with that whopping 30 Toughness your friends get. The numbers come out very small. On top of that, Valor’s secondary stat is Critical Damage, and since you don’t crit with this build and the gear you’re thinking of that’s another wasted part of that investment.

Battle Presence is a far better pick for what you’re trying to do.

I’d forget about the Valor line and toss those 20 points into Virtue. Absolute Resolution further improves Resolve and thus your Battle Presence, and 20% Boon Duration will add a second to the effects of your Shouts. That’s one more hit they have Protection against, one more tick of Regeneration on “Hold the Line”. Inspired Virtue even makes it viable to pop Resolve as a one-off Heal in a pinch since it adds Regeneration after the Heal. Better to lose the passive effect than wipe.

I just said Valkyrie set of armor because i really dont know about anything other, what can you recommend? Keep in mind im pretty new at this game but have other mmo-experiences from playing support!

Nobody really has a lot of experience with this game yet, except maybe closed Beta testers. But I don’t know that I know any. Most of it is a matter of playing the game and observing its behaviour. At level 60 I’m sure you’ve seen enough of the game to know how you usually react or try to react to certain things. So while people on here can give you input, you have to figure out yourself what works for you in the end.

Two things primarily about this second build: You got rid of Battle Presence. Was that intentional?

Boy, you really like your Retaliation. It’s nice, you get a lot of access to it, but personally I wouldn’t trait for it. Unless you’re doing sPVP maybe. That could get pretty fatal for some overzealous Dual Dagger Thief.

Anyway. If you still want to both deal damage and support your troops through healing, you might want to spec Battle Presence back in. Writ of the Merciful is shorter and a smaller area unless you trait up your Symbol. Which might be a waste with this build.

As for your gear, Valkyrie doesn’t have Healing. One set that has Healing is Cleric which also adds Power and Toughness. The other two, Shaman and Magi, add Condition Damage and Precision, respectively. Neither is really all that useful to your build unless you want to move away from sheer Power and towards Crits. But that would require a total rethink of your build I guess.

See, the problem is that your goals are actually pretty vague. There are three ways you can deal damage and even more ways you can support your friends. Your current build is just for straight up damage. Hit a guy, he goes ouch. With the right investments in traits and gear you could also go for critting high and often but at lower base damage or back-loading with Condition Damage though Guardians really only get Burning in that way.

For support you could indeed stick with healing, or focus on dealing Protection or Stability or Aegis… or even something offensive like Might or Combo Fields. A dead enemy is still the best form of damage mitigation.

Thanks for the input, it wasnt intentional with removing Battle Presence, its back now

I really dont have a clue other than what my creative mind tells me to spec, do you think i should move the Zeal points into Valor to get higher crits instead of higher base dmg?

Id rather use 2h GS but other than that id just felt like scepter+shield is pretty neat, do you have any recommended spec or trait you could show me? Would be nice with some others mind on the matter

My goal is kind of to be a battle healer, sort of.. i will play group all the time, almost never solo, id want to be a good support guy but also be able to bring out the 2h GS and assist in the train.

I’ve played through to 80 and while i have not attempted to play this way this is the best i can think of

main points

  • use greatsword for damage and staff for healing, empower is a great spell and the orb heals as well as the symbol from staff once you trait it
  • combat healer means damage and healing, so i suggest 30 zeal 30 honor
  • hold the line is nice, the signet healing passive fits the whole idea, for the last skill i suggest purging flames, it will fit the damage roll well as you already have 2 healing abilities slotted, plus it adds on condition removal and can be traited easily
  • in the honor tree healing symbols makes both the staff and Gsword symbol abilities good and making them larger is nice as well, battle presence is the best ability in the tree IMO
  • for gear i suggest carrion if you’re leaning to damage or cleric if you want to lean towards healing. the absolute best would be the EVER elusive shaman gear healing+condition+vitality its the theoretical best for this idea of play

I ended up with a build like Rooj’s, though I still keep changing some points often.

Zeal 30 and Honor 30 are a must in my opinion.
Greatsword Heals (even though people say it’s terrible, don’t listen, use it for yourself and check – I find it awesome), Greatsword 5% damage, and extra 10% damage to burning foes.
Symbols are Larger, Symbols Heal Allies, Two Handed Skills recharge 20% faster.

I use a Greatsword / Staff.
Greatsword’s Symbol of Wrath will have a pretty decent area, heals me for about 130~ each tick at 80 with 0 healing power. Staff’s Symbol of Swiftness will also heal for the same amount.
My Staff’s the only item that has + Healing on it, everything else is Power/Vit/Crit Damage (Ideally I’d like a Power/Vit/Healing, but I haven’t found anything like this yet).

Among all builds I tested, I found this one to be the best/most effective for nearly everything.

The last 10 points I switch between Valor and Virtues. Valor gives an extra Aegis at 50% and Meditations 20% or 5% to Precision, which only gives me about 4% extra crit but since my gear’s heavy on crit… I think it helps sometimes. Also the extra 10% crit damage.
Virtues doesn’t give any stats bonus, but there’s 2 Major Traits I find really useful, Master of Consecrations and Spirit Weapon Duration.
Consecrations are Wall of Reflection (really OP), Purging Flames (longest burning duration for extra damage, plus it’s AoE) and sometimes Sanctuary. Or you can go the Spirit Weapon way, pick reduced CD at Zeal I and the Command one at Zeal II, plus extra Duration at Virtue I, and you can cast 2 Spirit Bow’s healing rain every min and half. They are annoying due to positioning, but the heal is STRONG and it’s AoE.

two handed skills is a really good option to battle presence as it works with both weapons well, the only reason i havent used it in the past is because it didnt work with staff, i just checked now though and it does work.

The build your looking for is nearly impossible to build correctly. Let me look a bit and ill post something that might work with gear breakdown and such.

Edit: Ok so after some work here we go.

Gear: (Armor) Magi Armor [Healing Power, Precision, Vitality], (Weapon’s) Valkyrie GreatSword/Staff [Power, Critical Damage, Vitality], (Jewelery) Shaman’s Jewelery [Condition Damage, Healing Power, Vitality] or Cleric’s [Healing Power, Power, Toughness]

Shaman’s Jewelery is optimal for this build. This should net you a good crit, massive hp, decent healing, and plenty of support threw your symbol’s and concentrations. I have no idea if you can even get shaman’s jewelery at this point. If you manage this build should be over 20k hp easy. But no clue as to what the other stats would look like as half of this gear i’ve even yet to see.

Edit#2: Stats from Optimal Gear should be as follows. This does not include anything but what the gear would add.
Power: 179
Precision: 224
Toughness: 0
Vitality: 592
Critical Damage: 9%
Condition Damage: 336
Healing Power: 651

Only issue with a build like this is to make it effective your all over the place with your stats. My guess is at tops maybe 30% crit. Better than some but no where near Pure dps levels.
