Been maining Thief for too long.
If you like running with 50 other players and looting the mostest shinies while admiring the human female character models, guardian is still the undisputed master class – Equip a Staff and go like this: 1111111111111111111111111111111111111111
As for playing solo , well . . . open world is made for casuals and ultimately you can solo everything naked. However, if you don’t want to take two days to kill a critter, stay away from guardian. No innate 25% movespeed and has to make major damage sacrifices to keep swiftness or use Traveler or consumables. No thanks.
Well I do a lot of Silverwastes farming so I’m not actually ALONE per say.

SW is different from Orr farming in that you are not trying to tag mobs that die to a sneeze, and instead you are actually trying to do the most damage you can to succeed the event. Therefore staff should not be your main weapon for SW but you can use it for swiftness on the run.
No need for +25 movement speed when just moving around solo, equip Greatsword & Sword as weapons, Retreat, Save Yourselves and Judges Intervention (swap for Merciful Intervention in cities without hostile targets), use the blinks and leaps to move around (and the additional F2 leap from Dragonhunter in the future)
What goes for the gear.. Well full berserker, dungeon build works perfectly outside of it too in PvE. Staff is good for tagging mobs in old maps, but it’s pointless in the newer maps since the rewarding system is different

I was thinking GS/Staff then? Would that not be viable? Got any build ideas?
I like how someone actually gave advice to not use guardian because it lacked +25% move speed in open world pve.
Anyway, don’t neglect Sigils of Speed. 20s swiftness on kill is literally any class might need should they even think of wanting to move faster.
Also, consider using a burn build with Supreme Justice and Permeating Wrath. Honestly, I think such a set up works best with staff, and you can set mobs on fire and leave to let the burning tick while you tag more mobs (or continue racking up burn stacks as necessary). The direct damage and burning from staff should easily be enough to get credit (priority #1), and you still have the option to increase the damage by adding more stacks. GS or Sc+T would be perfect options for something like bosses where you might not have a lot of mobs to aoe. Should mobs be dying faster than you can get credit for, you probably wouldn’t get credit with another build anyway. Here’s a build I made for someone else who had a similar question. http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQNAW7fnkICtChNDBWCBEEhD9hKHFbYIafgOoPrBQSOuA-TVSEABIcEACZ/BSVCKiuBAM/BkyvCeAAxo+jAXEASBAxaA-w
One last thing, thanks for showcasing p/p thief. They don’t think it is like it be but it do.
Thanks for your advice and build. And you’re welcome for showcasing P/P. I stream it quite a bit and it’s soooo much fun. I don’t think people understand how devastating it can be. I mean, right now, no one knows how to react so I think that has a lot to with it but whatever….I love it.
I’ve been having a ton of fun on a burning build running around silver wastes using great sword and scepter/torch. The gears a mix of sinister and carrion but do sinister weapons first.
I run either this way with valor:

Or this way with Zeal:

Zeal is theoretically more DPS but the valor version has some fun gimmicks and slightly more survivability.
