You guys do realize that’s Obal’s DPS build right? (written all over youtube comments).

Think he should give him at least some credit.

I think people should recognize that Obal did not invent this build (To be clear, no one invents these things). He popularized it by promoting damage and meta for PVEl in fact he promotes MANY builds doing this, none of which his own discovery. While that’s commendable and appreciated greatly, he deserves as much credit for this video guide as a preacher does for writing the Bible.

As for the guide itself, I like it because he’s specific about talking about DPS builds. It’s a good VIDEO supplement to what Obal has provided … Obal should update his DPS thread with it.

1) Burning DPS build is pretty straight forward…take all the burning traits
2) This video shows how little they know about how this game actually works.
3) Sigil of night is really powerful?……………………………………………………………………………wow

Ironically this is the only build that was new in my guide that I play tested and promoted for quite awhile until I put up my newer build guide video. The rest weren’t mine like I said I just made a thorough guide to help people out.

They did the same with Ranger and Brazil. I’d say it’s a step in the right direction at least since they are promoting good builds and gameplay. Maybe they will make content that is more challenging now that they are understanding and promoting things like this.

I don’t wanna get into a condi vs power debate…but…the fact that they are doing stuff like this instead of fixing Guardian is a step in the WRONG direction ><

OP should change “Best DPS build by Obal stickied”. It’s funny that Anet showcase this build with exactly Obals choice of utilites.

Hmm, this video made me think they’re actually starting to figure the game out. And 10% damage increase from a sigil? Yeah, that’s pretty kitten good.

Izzy literally invented the Guardian. He is the game designer. Proof in attachment.
Please take this as a joke, this is intended as such. No offense meant here. The resemblance is rather apparent though, I am sure the artists drew those skills after Izzy.

I would assume Izzy had the build first, he might have shared it with some people, who then spread it to more people, then someone decided to make it popular and took credit for “inventing the build”.

It may seem straightforward, but how long did it take for it to become popularized? And judging by the Youtube comments, it’s apparently not that straightforward by many.

It’s pretty arrogant to simply dismiss the development of the meta that took months of trial, error, and theorycrafting when it’s right in front of you and all figured out. Everyone seems like a poker genius after the hand is played. Don’t do it, you’ll end up like… Oh we already have an example

So…you swap it out when night time comes everytime? I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or serious =P

In addition, the explorable paths of five dungeons and five Fractals of the Mists always take place during the night

Besides, is swapping weapons hard?

Meta means that you can’t balance kitten. I kittening hate that word with a passion. In DAoC you had balancing patches every 1-3 weeks. In this there has been stupid mechanics that have survived for nearly half a year…if not longer.

Another thing that I’ve always wondered…is it really night time in the instance? My eternity is Sunrise just as much as it is Twilight doing fractal 50s and the dungeons that I occasionally do.

If you watched that entire video that was posted you can see how little the class he understands outside of how it looks on paper. Having just one condi doesn’t work in any game mode so why is he even mentioning it…if you got off your horse once and awhile Mr White Knight you might eventually see how the flaws in the production of this game led to a poor foundation to build on. Also the patches to the game during the 3 open beta weekends were the worst thing got happen to this game…even worse than the 6.5 months of warrior buffs.

Also you signature…Aiming solely for the end game isn’t like renting a movie and skipping to the end. Its like going to a Mongolian BBQ joint and skipping all the useless crap you could fill your bowl with and sticking to the meat and veggies. The end game is where the game developers are supposed to show us an extremely challenging pve game, or a very dynamic pvp game. Currently we have wvw thats plagued by: aoe cap, small maps, condi spam, and a pretty big list of other problems. PvE that mainly focuses around moving through the dungeon as fast as possible, finding some trick to beating the boss, or getting 1 shot in lvl 50 fractals. And a completely broken PvP game. So when people like me play through an MMO and get the enjoyment out of it and expect to find something difficult and challenging at the end of the rabbit hole, you should understand that world exploration, item skin grinds, and massive zerg pve events was not what we were looking for.

Let’s see here:

1.) I’m saying that it took a long time to reach the current level of strategy. A lot of people thought 0-0-30-30-10 was the best dungeon build for a long time. It’s not “obvious” otherwise everyone would have been using the best builds since launch. Trying to say otherwise means that you know more than everyone else. That might be true, but that’s a lot of stuff to prove.

2.) What does the above have to do with defending the video? lol. Certainly has nothing to with your rant on imbalance. Please learn to read.

3.) I see you spent a big chunk of your post giving feedback on my sig. I’m flattered. But that’s hardly relevant. And who is “we”? Please speak for yourself only and learn to stay coherent.

4.) I’m not really defending the video since I’m barely even talking about it. I’m just saying you have no idea on what you’re talking about, such as your dismissal of Night sigils. It’s fine to not know about things, but if you’re going to put forth such a dismissive attitude, you’d better be right. If I’m white knighting anything, it would be those theorycrafters that allowed everyone including this guy in the video to speedrun and I could care less about the video’s quality. (All hail Obal !?) Of course these are just minor points. It’s way more relevant to talk about our own agendas about the game. Ad hominems are cool too, so learn to use logic.

5.) Getting caught up in uses of words such as “meta” is just another form of intellectual dishonesty. No matter how a game is balanced, some strategies are going to be most prevalent in high levels of play. Players, at least collectively speaking, are always going to have higher skill than the developers beyond release and that’s what any decent game should be balanced around— the highest level of play. It doesn’t really matter what name you give to it.

Min-maxers are crazy like that, swapping weapons and such. I have night weapons, stacking weapons, arah weapons, lupi specific weapons, cm weapons and force weapons for everything else. But I like to really min-max, one could just have force and stacking sets or night, force and stacking sets.

Oh, I see. You don’t actually know anything about the game. Makes sense now.
