Q:

I thought i would put this question into the Guardian section as its the most relevant stat to them.

Is there a hard boon duration cap? Now i don’t mean what the max you can hit is i mean cap were increasing beyond has no effect (such as the 100% hard cap on condition duration).

Some people have said 90% some have said 100% others say there’s no cap at all.

Thanks!

OK and does that apply to just boon duration or all single types too, for example:

5 seconds protection base with 100% boon duration + 20% protection duration
(5 * 2) * 1.2 = 12 sec
(5 * 1.2) * 2 = 12 sec

or would it still be 10 seconds.

It’s hard-limited to 100% from any source, whether boon specific or generalized. 100% general + 20% boon specific is still truncated to 100%.

Foofad can you show some numbers proving this to be 100 and not 90%? If possible I would ask you do so using Might stacks which are more accurate since they have naturally long times.

I mean, you can do it in game very easily. 30 Virtues + Omnom Cream is 50%, then you need to shore up the remaining. I recommend two Fire, two Hoelbrak, and two Strength runes. That gives you 110%. When you cast something with Might, you’ll see that it lasts double the duration, not 110%.

Edited to add: Easiest test with the above setup is Purging Flames + Blast Finish. The 3 Might will last 40 seconds with the above setup, not 38 as if it were 90% or 42 as if it were 110.

Interesting. I have had over 110% boon duration, but when testing myself with Might it only gave me a 90% duration. I checked on several forums and noticed a number of old posts with people stating it wouldn’t stack above 90, so I have wanted to verify this was true. I think I will do my own testing as well, just to be satisfied. Personally, I don’t see why it needs a cap, to get above 100 you really have to stretch on the buffs and sacrifice an awful lot of raw dps to get it so I don’t see what possible reason would justify enough concern to give it a hard cap. Honestly, same with condition duration as well.

I don’t know what to say to that, other than that they’re wrong.

Edit: I’m just throwing this out there, but it might be due to confusion over how the tooltip reads seconds remaining on duration. If the duration of the boon is 40 seconds remaining, and you mouse over it to see the tooltip, the tooltip will read 39 seconds rather than 40. The reason for this being that by the time you mouse over it, the actual time remaining is between 39.99 and 39.00. Even if your mouse is already over that spot it’ll still read that way because it only actually has a full 40 seconds remaining for the tiniest fraction of a second. The tooltip then truncates the number to the nearest whole second. This can be especially confusing when you look at something like, for example, Empowering Might. You might have 110% boon duration and then look at Empowering Might and say, “Wait a minute, the tooltip is only reading 9 seconds instead of the 10 or 11 I should be getting. Boon duration must be capped.” When the reality is that it is in fact lasting for 10 seconds.
