So my GF’s guardian just hit 80 and I planned on having her use the “Paladin” Guardian build – I’m not certain on the gear though, so I wanted to get some advice before she starts dumping gold on gear (well, she already did that and bought mismatched Carrion/Zerker/Valkyrie stuff kind of at random and nearly made me cry). I really want to have a flat out “get this in this order” guide for her.

She has enough Laurels for an ascended ring, so I’ll prob have her go right for that rather than bother with an exotic. After that get weapons, then chest, legs, the rest of body armor and finish out the accessories and ring/amulet.

Here’s the Build and Gear.

Is this a solid gear set up, are the numbers respectable? I could get the crit chance higher, I had a setup with Emerald Jewels pulling around 70%, but is that even necessary with building might stacks or healing? I’ve heard anything above 55-60 is kind of redundant and isn’t worth the loss to Power.

You could trade out one or 2 of the armor pieces for say Valks or p/v/t gear. I suggest this only because your HP pool is super low at 15k….any crit chance above 40% just seems like overkill to me. My Guardian runs at 3k attack and armor, 18-19k health, and about 25% crit chance and he still crits almost every time (I used sword/shield or hammer as my primary, and scepter/torch as secondary, so lots of consistent hits.) Overall it looks like a pretty good supporty-dpsy build!

Depending on what you’re doing 15k HP is manageable. I run 13k to 14k w/o a problem in PvE. Its a bit light for PvP/WvW though. DPS it seems is in the eye of the beholder in GW2. Some someone’s ‘good dps’ is another’s ‘low dps’. I personally shoot for 60%+ crit if possible but I like to be more on the DPS side, there is a noticeable difference from 40% to 60%. I’d suggest -5 Radiance, +5 Virtues for Master of Consecrations, Wall of Reflection is just awesome against projectiles…

See this is the thing people use high HP as a crutch. You shouldn’t be allowing big hits in the first place. While that is a good thing in PVP in PVE you can easily managewith 13-14k even in high fractals. For a power base try to aim at 3k power 40% crit. If you mean my 2.0 guardian/paladin build. If you mean the 2.5 you can reach that even easier. I’m in the process of scaling back my crit down to 40% even.
