Guild Wars 2

Hi all,

My primary character is thief, and while I’m having fun running the condition thief build there comes a point where running around and dodging all day becomes… annoying. I kind of want to tank some damage, laugh in people’s faces and unleash some unholy DPS, heal some allies, run some dungeons, that kind of thing. Ergo, my alt, the guardian.

I know next to nothing about this class and I’m just learning how to play it. I do know what I like so far:
I’m running GS and staff as my weapon sets and I do like the GS mechanic, pretty mobile, I can get in the middle of mobs and wreck havoc. Staff helps in multiple mob and support situations. I think I want to keep those as my primary 2 weapon sets.

So, can anyone recommend a build for me with GS and staff as the main weapons, with lots of heals, sufficient tankiness (main appeal of the guard for me is the ability to heal and NOT DIE, something my thief doesn’t exactly excel at) but more than respectable DPS?

You could go for the Spirit Wep Build 30/30/0/0/10. I personally like this build because you can use any set of weps and make it work. As it implies, it relies on spirit weps not only to help support you, but also to be really good dps. Spirit hammer has a knock back in its attack chain, and spirit sword has a nice AoE. The last skill slot is up to you, you can swap in spirit sheild for some range protection and a weaken skill action or maybe a stun breaker, like “Hold the Line”. I personally run this build and it works great for PvE, dungs, and solos.

depending on the amount of damage you want to take(standing on the bosses face most of the time and not moving a hell of a lot or takeing a few hits and still stand but getting out of the bosses way) some AH builds lets you stand on the bosses face(almost all bosses) and from there you could go afk(exadration makes it easyer to understand) and come back to a dead boss

but as there is a lot of builds going around on the forum i surgest looking on them first and look what the traits do and see if you can make something that works for you(by looking at the builds on the forums you gain some understanding on how the guardian is build)

a guardian can be made to heal itself and others around him/her with the symbles tho for the tankiness to stand on a bosses face and not move you will sacrifess alot of dps and same goes for the other way where very high dps generaly means low tankiness
