I keep seeing posts on the forums about “bunker” builds. What exactly is a Bunker Guardian?

Like right now I stack all +healing, toughness, and power gear and have 1500 healing so does that make me technically a “bunker”?

Bunker Guardians rely on blocks, traits that deal some form of damaging while blocking, retaliation, standing still a lot, lots of toughness and vit, knockdowns/stuns and stability.

You see the term a lot in two realms.

In PVP, a bunker Guardian is a Guardian that stands on a CP that they own. This way, the only way to cap the point is to kill the Guardian who is nearly unkillable.

In WvW, a bunker guardian uses a shield to bubble 50+ people stacked on top of themselves. Also uses other consecrations like hallowed ground and wall of reflection, which are the only true AOE skills guardians have – most other aoe skills only hit up to 5 enemies or so.

But regardless, the most important bits are maintaining constant protection and retaliation. This was why retaliation was nerfed several patches back.

Yeah, it’s mainly Guardians who defend one specific place (as in: they bunker down). It sacrifices damage for survivability and control.
It’s more an archetype than a specific build.

I love being super difficult to kill. It’s hilarious.
Especially when people start dying around me!
Then I get to play hero <3

People won’t die around you if you’re alone. Not even pre-ret nerf was like that. Unlike in PVE, the enemy has a choice of who to focus. The difficulty behind bunker builds is making sure you’re always the one that’s getting focused. defending towers and capture points is easy, but on the field you’re sort of a joke.

The problem with bunker guardians right now is that many people are exploiting a bug in our class that makes certain weapon type/trait guardians virtually unkillable. It’s pretty lame to see people using something obviously broken and I can’t wait until Anet patches it.

I have no knowledge of such a bug. Could you PM me the explanation, if you trust me with such information.

No thanks. I don’t condone or promote the use of Guardian exploits.

I don’t plan on using it. I dislike exploiting as much as you probably do. I’m just curious about it. Because the Bunker Build I use doesn’t rely on any exploits and is still very powerful.

But I can perfectly understand not wanting to share it, even though you say many Guardians you use, so it probably should be common knowledge…

It’s a kinda QQ I think. Or you’re not speaking about any exploit but just a chain of skills making you a superman for several seconds.

The only bug I can think of is the chain block.
