Burning guard in tvp
This is the build I run with a few differences. I equip Shimmering Defense which isn’t reliable, but can make some big surprises. It also allows my F1 to blind giving me another defensive option. I also run Rune of Balth to give more burn duration and dmg which, again not reliable but fun, makes Shimmering Defense hit for 10K. More importantly Defender’s Flame with Balth does 856 dmg per tick.
you dont need shimmering as you constant proc burning so another stack of 13 sec burning not much needed
i rarely use F1 unless i am sure the hit will kill my enemy like in 25-10% hp as i lose the proc every 5th attack
i used to go with balthazar but change right after to flame legion which gives more power and 7% more dmg with 30% duration so its nicer
traveler is much need for 25% speed and some overall buff but if you dont like it go flame if you use carrion gear
virtue line is very nice which give me boons when needed abd prolong the duration of PF so more cleanse and more burning
I’m always willing to try new things. I’ll try Flame Legion. I really like the blind that F1 gives so I might keep that, but put 1 in virtues.
Having a bit of fun with this today. Switched to Celestial and survivability increase is very noticable.

I would suggest a scepter over mace. It gives you a bit of range and Smite can trigger burning multiple times. Yes, the extra burn on block is nice but without any immob/range you’re going to be vulnerable to ranged combatants. I’m torn between Traveler and Flame Legion. Again though, with a scepter you have to worry about land speed less.

i am switching between scepter to mace depend on the situation
if its to guard a point/area mace is better
if its to move between points scepter is better as it range (slow one) and got immobilize (good versus thief/ele/mesmer)
with carrion flame rune is better
i also tested carrion versus med power guard build
after 10 tries on golems in the mist it seems carrion build killing after 8 sec and the same combo with zerk killing after 9-10 sec …
I swap mace for scepter on some maps or if facing a lot of rangers.

another example in tpvp arena (so many mistakes i did)
Your build might work in courtyard if there was another supporting team member.
Outside of fun, which is why we play, I don’t think it would do much. I have a burning / condi build set for my Guardian. Built after the new traits got released. Outside of PvE I just don’t get much satisfaction out of it in WvW or PvP. Solo roamer or point control.
I swapped him out for my condi/survival Ranger which does the job so much better.

i cant argue personal preference
ranger condi survival dont bring aoe dmg (direct and condi) like the guardian does
if i play tpvp (not tdm) and i have bunker guard with me we can take 2v3 unless engi come with his turrets
in 1v1 you can handle better then a ranger while holding the point
I admit to being a huge sceptic of this build at first, but my win % does not lie. I am winning 60-70% of my games where before it was 30-40% on a Zerker or Bunker. Atm I feel like I can really affect the outcome of a game, where before I felt reliant on others. Even if people kill me I dish out wo much damage to them they are easy pickings for the next guy.
The build must suit my playstyle, because on paper it does not look great, but its performance is spectacular.
I currently run it with Celestial, you give up a little damage for lots of survivability.

still dont know
less hp 2.5k (more condi pressure on you)
more 400 armor (bit less direct dmg on you)
less 300 power
less 500 condi dmg
more crit chance and dmg

No, neither of us can which is perfectly fine

Actually Axe and Short Bow provide a bit of AOE which can ramp up the bleeds rather quickly but it does depend on how you use it. I run Axe/Dagger with SB. On the courtyard map I’ll switch to Long Bow, Axe, Torch. I also run Muddy Terrain with entangle.
If I had to pick one thing on my build it would be I never felt like I could survive compared to other Guardian builds. Truth be told I actually felt I could stay alive longer running full zerk as a Guardian – maybe because I knew going in it was all or nothing if you catch my meaning.
But hey – maybe you are on to something. Maybe not. Fun is all that matters.

I know I may come across as ‘one of those guys’ but is your winning percentage for rated or unrated games? Honest question.
For example over the weekend I think I managed 56 or so games, unrated, and came out with about 36 wins and felt pretty good. Rated, I’d say it was the other way around. I lost more than I won.
Quality of players, maps, bad luck – not sure. Just know at the end of the day I had a higher win/loss ratio when playing in the unrated grounds. Maybe it doesn’t matter but figured I’d ask more so out of curiosity.

I mainly solo unranked and team for ranked.
I am not sure what my ranked % is as it seems to be carrying games from before the patch, but would put it at 50% since patch. Playing with some guys on the weekend I dropped about 5 in a row, but last night won 5 in a row. So it is very streaky but about 50/50. The competition between similar teams is quite good. Manged to win 2 games by less than 10 points last night. I stopped queuing for ranked solo as the teams were just too good. I felt they rotated so much better than you could do queuing solo that it wasn’t possible to beat them.
In unranked, I was not winning very much as I felt very reliant on others. I think I was down to like 30 or 40%. In 2 days since swapping to this build I have shot back up over 50% which means there were quite a few wins to rectify 2 weeks of poor performance, as I pvp for 3+ hours each night and 5+ hours each day on the weekend. I have no idea the number of games I have played, but it did take me 2 days of solid winning to get back up over .500
TBH I found Meds were too inconsistent. Players were just dodging your big attacks. Bunker was way too reliant on others. It’s kinda like the 3 bears… Meds was too reliant on surprise… Bunker was too reliant on teammates… Burning was about right.
As to Celestial… I found I was ticking at 800 per tick with Carrion and at 700 with Celestial. I build up a lot of might through blocks, and the loss in power was not that noticable, hence why I prefer to mostly run mace, so I usually have a 10 stack of might or more. The extra healing power and toughness seemed noticably better than the extra condition damage. You really notice it vs mesmers and thieves. I felt quite squishy with Carrion. All I can say is try it. Since you run with a bunker guardian, he really helps your sustain. I noticed a large increase in surviviability with Celestial and only a small drop in damage. My friend runs SW/WH warrior and is pretty good at keeping conditions off me, so having the toughness is quite beneficial.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
to get 700 burning dmg with cele you need 10 might stacks and without it you have 560 dmg
i tried cele but only in some cases i had 10 might stack (without staff guard gives 12 might stacks)
i had to use PF #5focus for 3 stack of might and leap with GS for fire aura which gave me might like crazy if i was attacked and /or use sigile of battle for more 3 stacks and rune.
but still i get the same might stacks with carrion
with carrion rarely had problem 1v1 versus thief s/d, d/p even p/d condi only 1v2 they could take me easily so cele amulet wont do any help here.
power shatter mesmer i have some problem but its me as i cant handle them with every class i play so for me cele again wont do any good
the main difference with cele is the healing buff you get around 400 to healing skills and 150 for using med skills
and i think if you fight along side supporter class go carrion for more dmg
my results after testing the same rotation on golem
zerk amulet meta build 7-10 sec to kill (depend on crit) – less hp must hit to do dmg
carrion amulet 8 sec to kill – more hp burning bleed and poison tickittenven if you wont hit
cele amulet 8-10 sec to kill (depend on crit) – less hp more armor
now take it in 2v2 3v3 those 2 sec on aoe is huge difference also you have less hp base and bit more armor and your ticking while not hitting with condi will tick less 300 dps aoe so can sum to huge difference in 4 sec
but all in all its player preference and game style
regarding team and solo arena
i really cant tell if its the build
some match i can say my guildies told me after i join they are on winning strike and some we losing mainly on bad split and communication
also some solo unranked again mainly the split in the beginning and not the build itself
With Celestial and Balthazar runes it is 650. You can hover over the trait defenders flame trait and it tells you. Balthazar runes, 6 in zeal and sigil of smouldering equals 2 sec of burning per block. I run that on my focus and geo and doom on my gs.
Once I get a 10 stack of might it really starts to hurt.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Carrion and Balthazar I get 856 burning. I go in with burning JI and then switch weapons to up bleed and poison up so that burning stays on unless someone can remove three condi.
I’m loving my condi guard. Currently ranked in the 200s.
