they’re a decent alternative seemingly for an alternative to ascended if you don’t have it yet. though i’d rather work a bit more, get ascended and focus the quartz on the armor. : ))

too lazy to do hard math now, lol, but i want to assume, at least in terms of armor alone, if you’re going to mix in some pieces of celestial, i’d rather mix with existing sets that we have now. it’s a build up of all-stats that i feel can be useful. though, i may be wrong.

when PvP-ing, i do sometimes go for 5x Rune of one type, and then throw in a Divinity if i don’t need the 6th pc bonus. even then argubly, you could go for another single stat piece for better “results”. but if it’s an entire armor piece, i feel it’s not worth it to go just a few pieces for celestial. just my thoughts.

That would actually be a worse combination.

I get that people want to make celestial stuff work, but unless you build around it (build around your armor =P ) it just isn’t going to be as good as regular mixing.

Thx for giving the heads up.

Here are the stats (with food) i get with a full celestial except accessories and back which are berserkers. Strength in numbers and sigil of accuracy in MH and energy in off hand are included.

If you use sigil of battle in OH then you can add in a minumum of 105 additional power.

Power 1858
48% crit rating
119% crit damage
Armor 2997
HP 18105
Healing power, 720 (about 900 per dodge roll)
36% magic find
470 condition damage (about 500 per tick)

At first glance it looks kind of promising with sigil of battle and maybe kill stack sigils. Why not both in a 1h build. Also interested what a fury based build would look like with that crit damage…

I’ve been using Celestial Amulet + Rings since they’ve come out and am currently saving for the Accessories… kitten anet for only allowing laurels via dailies in WvW and not Lord Killing/Defending. LAME (just another reason why WvW gets ‘back of the bus’ to the kittenty kitten pve’rs)…. anyhoot, i regress.

I think guardians are one of the best classes for all around stat distribution… it just feels ‘right’ and they make an incredible base for the class.

I change my armor around for the type of play-style I want: Zerk, Pvt, Clerics, etc.

@Brutaly – looks pretty decent off first glance for an all arounder, if you will. with that setup, you can easily switch around the runes as well. if you wanted to, could swap in, like we discussed early on in the thread, might or boon duration runes and be pretty strong in that regard.

fury based build – i did 5 Citadel + 1 Divinity. still get ~800 dodge heals and 36s of Fury when it procs. or did you mean running with a group that can supply fury?

so far, i like where these are going. i feel the challenge, in a good way, will be in coming up with different builds. but we’ll see ; ))

@Maelenhanced – looks decent too! though if i’ve a decent base of healing power already, i’m personally inclined to push it further. and can afford to drop a bit of the toughness. though again, i like the high crit ratings while being able to retain some sense of meaningful healing power and decent damage.

@Amins – exactly that, celestial i feel is able to set a strong base for our class. then depending on your play style, switch up the weapons, trinkets, etc to match your needs. (do wish we’d have more varied ways of getting laurels. :// heh)

gonna be 8 armor sets and counting for my Guard once i get aroudn to getting celestial

anyone have more builds that utilized celestial gear – specifically armor / weapons and come up with something interesting? i still feel like i’m going for the “known and proven” builds for more success, from a stats perspective, obviously.

I’ve been messing around with Celestial accessories and seeing how I can utilize the greatsword for maximum damage. I created an unusual build that revolves around passive damage increase through boons, low endurance, fire application, and having a greatsword equipped. What came out is 20/x/x/25/25 with stats of 3067 power, 42% crit chance, 2606 armor, 17115 health, 216 condition damage, 59% crit damage, 20% condition duration, 466 healing power.

The damage output is also increased by 54% while having a greatsword out, all boons, <100 endurance bar, and having fire on an opponent. At first glance I didn’t think it was a good setup but the spike damage is insanely high. With full soldier runes, I get pure of voice and with the celestial accessories giving healing power, my dodge rolls heal for 595.

I’m still playing around with armor setup but celestial has made the guardians that much better.

I post from a phone so please excuse any references to ducks or any other auto corrections.

@Akamon
it might be worth a shot since it seems it might open up for competitive one hand builds and some trait distribution that are more or less gimmicks (even though they are fun) atm.

Was actually thinking of using boon duraton runes (water+monk) with a might stacking build. I havent gotten a might stacking build to work properly (being competitive) in wvw so far and these runes might open up for that. With 35% boon duration you would have 12 stacks of might with in 10s from the start of the clash. Add in 3 from VoJ and about three more from EM. We are talking about 18 stacks within a very short time frame.

Might even be worth a shot to just play scepter and have focus/torch and no secondary MH. There was a guy that played only with one 1h sword during beta and did one hell of a might stacking setup in tpvp.. Scepter and 1h sword both have short cd on main skills so they are more suited for this than our other weapons.

Personally i have 100% uptime on fury in my group but in this case i was thinking more of citadels and shouts. With 119% crit damage this looks really interesting.

Mace builds looks really interesting also. Grabbing stength in numbers and mace of justice in valor and suddenly you have over 1k heal dodges with mace.
Add in superior aria and EM from honor, inspired virtue from virtues and we have a serious supportbuild with plenty of fire power.
0/25/20/20/5 and ofc with might stacking sigils. Or 10/0/10/25/25 maybe. I think this armor opens up a lot of interesting possibilities.

@the ones using celestials trinkets only
Just a reminder, celestial trinkets alone wont add anything, just saying, sure in raw stats they do but as it stands now all stats arent worth equally. Any build you can produce with celestials trinkets can be bettered by mixing gear types.

The only reason why im interested is when we start stacking celestial armor and that we then might be able to produce stats that cant be replicated by mixing gear and this would allow us to create builds that isnt competitive atm.

I’ve spent some time with the updated build calculator for awhile now and with my current trait set up, I actually ended up losing more stats in certain areas than I wanted to.

HOWEVER, I did mess around with a mix and match, which included 2 celestial pieces, and found something that actually increased all of my stats with one exception. My crit chance went from 42% to 38%. My goal was to always have a 40% crit chance, so going below 40 bothers me. I still can’t decide if I want to go with 38% or not, but the overall increase in the other stats is nice to say in the least.

Anyways, just thought I’d throw that out for those of you that are theorycrafting. Try out mixed, not just straight celes.

Here’s what I’ve come up with that utilizes Celestial accessories. The goal was to provide a quick way of adding burst with the great sword, utilizing dodge rolls to heal and to not have full endurance (vigor to increase endurance regen so you get more dodge rolls/heals), boon duration, max boons for more damage, and condition removal through shouts.

This is far from any kind of final but I was looking for a build that really tried to be a Jack-of-all-trade. The armor is low comparatively speaking but I don’t value armor high in this game. Avoidance (through Aegis and Dodge) and Protection is more valuable than trying to bump up armor. I’m still playing around with different sets of armor and switching out accessories to really min/max this setup.

I’m still not sold on the weapon sigils but this gives you an idea on where I’m headed.

I’ll think about it.

I’ve been using one build that I know is very effective and haven’t heard many people using it. I was quite surprised to see someone here using it, and using it well!

I’ve recently tweaked the build even more by changing some of the trait points and exploring a new tree with it, but I’m really missing some of the elements from the original build. I’m still messing around with it trying to figure out if it’s effective or not. So far, I’m really impressed with the numbers I’m seeing, but as I said, I miss the other trait line I took points out of.

I’ve also tweaked the gear setup again last night and got that missing 2% crit chance back up to 40% at the sacrifice of some power, but not enough to deter from doing it. I’ve got 2 parts of Celestial stats on it.

I’ll think about releasing it sometime. But honestly, I’m a bit afraid to. I’d hate for it to get super popular and then it get nerfed because of that. That’s the pattern I’ve seen with Anet. If a build becomes popular, it gets nerfed a couple months later.

This is my approach to a celestial build using full celestial equipment (weapons, armor and trinkets).

More offensive celestial build

More defensive celestial build

Both builds are with greatsword and sword/shield.
The first one with 20/20/30/0/0 and the second one with 0/20/30/20/0. In both I’m not sure wether I should take the 20% reduced cooldown for signets or the 5% increased damage for swords/spears. What do you guys think of the builds? (I think the more defensive one is better but I’m not sure about it)

I think this build would be pretty versatile because it looks like it could pretty hard while maintaining a good amount of defense. But I could be wrong because I’ve not tried it yet for obvious reasons.

I’m not a theorycrafter I just want to try something out and want to know if I’m completely on the wrong way before I go ahead and use all my charged quartz for my guardian.

The word “ranger” does not originate from the
word “range” but from “to range”.

From my experiences so far, spare time for gaming gets progressively less and less, revolving around a few minutes after bedtime, or after the school run in the morning ( before work ).
It’ll plateaux after a mere 7-8 years and then start to improve.
Suddenly after 20 years or so you suddenly get all the gaming time you could possibly want.
So enjoy the moments you get and look forward to Guildwars 5!

( but seriously. Congrats! ;-) )

I plan on still crafting my 2 celestial parts. I think it’s going to be some months before we even see the new gear and then on top of that a couple more months to gather the necessary requirements for it, (for me personally; I’m still working on my infusions for my trinkets!).

I also can’t help but speculate that one of the requirements will be the exotic version of the gear you want ascended. For example, if you want ascended Celestial gear, you have to have the exotic version first. So in a sense, you won’t necessarily be wasting your time.

I’m also excited about the changes coming up, but not looking forward to getting crafting to 500 or the 1/day stuff either.

promised to get back with some field tests and now i have done some with 3 celestial trinket, 3 armor pieces and the rest i mixed so it would correspond to celestial weapons and full armor.

I was spot on in power, crit and healing but lower in crit damage so my build had a bit less burst and also a bit less vitality.

It corresponded to this build.

Stats after 11 s in combat.
2154-2600 power depending on how many stacks you managed to get and even an idiot will manage to get 12 stacks (420 power) in any encounter.
10%+10% damage modifiers
18055 hp
49% crit chance
99% crit damage
910 healpower with mace which is over 1k dodge heals.
2922 Armor

Basically its a might stacking build and you need 11s to have 12 or more stacks running on you. I havent gotten this to work with other gear due to lack of sustain but tbh this just works great. The combinations of stats really compliment the build.

The only useless stats for this kind of gameplay is magic find but that will be fixed.

Scepter and focus is the ranged option and mace/torch is the melee/defensive/burst option.

I took fiery wrath for the damage multiplier and it also has some nice synergies with bursting and torch.

In valor i took mace of justice which allows me to dodge heal for over 1k and its also a nice supportive option when supporting in sieging. I also took strength in numbers in valor which is great support and allows me to have over 2900 armor when in combat.

I also traited might of the protector since its the back bone in the build.

In honor i went for pure of voice, empowering might and superior aria so basically very support centric and ofc with might from EM.

the mandatory 5 points virtues ofc for more support and might.

In the weapons i had sigil of accuracy in MH and battle in off hand.

Mace and skill 5 in torch are the initiator of combat and after that swapped to scepter immediately to get 3 stacks of might for 21s.

Scepter is used at close range, you want the opponent to hit you so you get to block with skill 5 on focus (3 more stacks) and also to remove 2 aegis (the passive+active) and if you have time also one aegis from retreat for more might. Now you have at least 9 stacks and you can get a couple of more from shelter and 2-4 from EM.

Swap to mace, dodge (+10% damage) while activating zealots flame and VoJ (burn the opponent for 10% more damage and 3 stacks of might) and trigger protectors strike followed by zealot fire. Ofc 3 more stacks from the swap. Now we have some where between 18 and 25 stacks (perfectly timed shelter) of might and at a minimum 15 stacks and if you want you can pop SY for fury before protectors strike.

This has the eqvivalent burst of my 0/30/30/5/5 with a mix of valk/ber/pvt in armor and full berserker in weapons and trinkets.

Even without using any cooldowns you will have 9 stacks of might at any given time

Very demanding to play and you need to micro manage a lot and ofc bursting with 1200 range with judges intervention demands almost nothing compared to this.

The difference is that this build can stay in the center of combat for a huge amount of time and if you use your cool downs (shelter, voj, retreat, shield of wrath) you will basically have +10 stacks indefinitely.

BUT, this isnt for everyone, i takes some serious gameplay to make it work.

So if you have the skill and can build burst for 11 s this is a very valid way to build and use celestials.

Ofc you can add in boon duration runes into this and stacking becomes easier but your survivability will also increase and also your support capability even though burst will drop but still be very respectable. The amount of duration you need is determined by the relative skill you have.

Due to my newborn i dont have time to play as much but i continued to test this and here is a quick report, from a wvw perspective.

I have tested a 0/30/10/30/0 with full celestial armor and celestial trinkets and it actually works really nice but you still need to stack might in order to hit some what hard.

Seems that might stacking is indeed the way to go if you want to play these babies which leaves us with rather poor condi removal. So basically 30 points to get pure of voice which isnt bad since it has nice synergy with the healing power in the gear.

But in short the build above works really nice but you need to have might stacking or at least 20% damage from zeal and radiance so i think we might end up with a 10/30/0/30/0 or 10/30/0/20/10 with soldier runes.

iv’e yet to full testing, but i’ll be getting there soon once i actually craft the armor. thanks for the report, Brutaly and i suspect either might stacking or boon duration will be the way to go, at least in terms of having the builds be more than viable. not sure how i feel about soldier runes yet, but may have to look into them.

seems even with new gear, Valor is being left behind in certain builds, of which many are very strong. that being said, i still think it’s a great line. just merely making an observation, heh.

hope the little one’s keeping you nice and busy ; ))

Valor is still king whenever you want to make a tanky or anchor build. heck even a 0/0/30/30/10 anchor with full zerker and scholar runes will perform well in the DPS department due to having near 100% DPS update and while having great sustain and mitigation in a 5 man party.

Yeah fine if you wanna maximise DPS you should avoid 30 points in valor but I would just bring my warrior in that case

Hi Brut, what about using the new Runes of Exuberance on Celestial Armors?
Stats goes like this>
1: +25 Vitality
2: 3% of vitality is converted to Healing Power
3: +50 Vitality
4: 3% of vitality is converted to Precision
5: +90 Vitality
6: 3% of vitality is converted to Power

I still don’t know how this calculation works but base on my vitality (17,225) at the moment, I would be having +500 to each power, precision, healing power. Is that how it is calculated ?

oh, interesting Axxo. i haven’t really looked at the new runes yet. will have to do that now.

though, note the difference between Vitality and your Health Pool. Each point invested in vitality equates to 10 health.

taking your example of your health pool of 17,225, and that the Guardian at level 80 has a base health of 1645. so that would make your vitality = (17,225-1,645)/10 = 1,558

so that would net you 47 Healing Power, Precision and Power respectively. i think this is how it’s done. so you can see, big difference. : )) as much as i would love +500 to healing power, prec AND power! lol

Runes of Exuberance looks interesting indeed but i dont think i need more vitality though. Im sitting at 15k with no points in honor. That is definitely enough.

Its power i lack atm and i feel that might stacking takes care of it..

got 11 pieces (full armor, scepter+focus, rings and amulet) in total now and frankly i started to think these little suckers are just great.

As long as you use all stats in your ordinary gameplay this cant go wrong, and i actually found such a build, i was actually was suggested one.

I think its definitely worth investing heavily into this armor and i will go the full monty with accessories and also a secondary weapon.

Most fun i had in a long time in wvw.

I abandoned the might stacking for now and use energy and 5% crit sigils instead and boon duration and might duration runes. And will end up playing staff as main weapon and alter between hammer and scepter/focus as one setup.

My second setup will mace/torch but those are 9 days away.

You are underestimating what it means.

It means the “Vitality” stat, not your “Health”

Your probably getting something like 25ish power/precision/healing power.
