So I am playing Cleric guard since ever because I really like the playstyle. Mindnumbingly running into masses and just laying down that Mace.

Now obviously that isnt much fun in HoT anymore because mobs got double the HP and now I feel my lacking damage.
Problem: I still wanna keep that “going in and staying in” playstyle. Does Crusader help in that case? Will I do a little more damage and still can do Altruistic Healing and all that jazz?

Also, what would be more viable in that case for raids (which obviously needs Toughness but I am liking the Healing Power stat much too)

You would get a small nudge in damage due to the small increase in power. You would cut your healing power in half, but due to the small healing coefficients it wouldn’t be that noticeable on most skills (also get a small nudge to toughness increasing your tankiness). I personally have a problem with gear that has ferocity, but doesn’t have precision to support it. I assume you are running Radiance Trait line to pick up the +25% crit chance, but if your not, the ferocity is worthless. At 30% crit chance it is okay, but not that great.

Haven’t done the math, but if you wanted gear that still had healing power, but noticeably increased your damage, it would be Zealot’s. If I’m wrong someone please correct me.

If you could get your hands on it (it is hard to come by), I think the new Commander gear would work well for what you are looking for. Good power, precision, toughness, and boon duration. IMO boon duration is going to outclass healing power.

Well I took a look into the Commander gear and left my Cleric trinkets in place.
I took Durability rune to synergize a little with Retributive Armor and Furious Sharpening Stones.
I gain somewhat around 100 Power but Toughness and Boon Duration spiked way up. Though I lost around 1000 Healing Power. I wonder if that compensates.

If youre doing raids, its pretty much accepted by now that druid covers heals. I imagine you will have a really hard time trying to convince people otherwise because the heals need to cover both the melee group and the group on the green circles.

Anyone telling you that a loss of that much healing power either doesnt know how to do the math or is too lazy to. An increase of even 50% boon duration is useless on most boons that are either spammable (regen, protection) or in cases where you only need them for a few seconds (stability, aegis).

As for toughness, you only need more then everyone else, and of course finding the happy medium that allows you to survive.

Full Cleric Armor is 1382 Healing Power
Full Crusader Armor + Cleric accessories is 931 Healing Power.
Difference of 451 HP.
Full Commander Armor + Cleric accessories 535 Healing Power
Difference of 847 HP

List of Healing Coefficients (this list is old, so some changes are to be expected, but I couldn’t find another list that is more current):

ALL RATIOS ROUNDED TO MOST CONVENIENT DIGIT

Regeneration (boon) = 130 base, 0.125 HP ratio
Monk’s Focus (trait) = 1960 base, 0.1 HP ratio
Selfless Daring (trait) = 129 base, 1.0 HP ratio (0.5 HP ratio in pvp)
Writ of the Merciful (trait) = 107 base, 0.075 HP ratio

Weapon Skills
Faithful Strike = 463 base, 0.1 HP ratio
Symbol of Faith = 520 base, 0.5 HP ratio
Orb of Light = 980 base, 0.33 HP ratio
Empower = 1500 base, 1.0 HP ratio
Virtue of Resolve
Virtue of Resolve (passive) = 84 base, 0.06 HP ratio
Virtue of Resolve (boosted) = 243 base, 0.06 HP ratio
Virtue of Resolve (active) = 1625 base, 0.75 HP ratio

Healing skills
Shelter = kitten base, 0.7 HP ratio
Signet of Resolve = 8150 base, 1.25 HP ratio
Healing Breeze (self) = 6525 base, 1.0 HP ratio
Healing Breeze (other) = 1725 base, 1.0 HP ratio

Utilities
Sanctuary = 2660 base, 0.5 HP ratio
Merciful Intervention = 1320 base, 0.2 HP ratio
Heal Area (ToC elite) = 1320 base, 0.5 HP ratio

So switching from Clerics gear: for any skill with a healing coefficient of 1.0 you would notice 451 less healing (crusader), 847 healing (commander), but as you can see from the list most skills are .5 and under, meaning on average you would see less than a 200 (crusader), 400 (commander) healing loss.

I think it is arguable that boon duration doesn’t have a strong place in raids since all worthwhile boons will be kept up by other people, although extending Feel My Wrath’s duration to almost double seems very strong. But, for the general HOT content, I would still recommend Commander gear over Cleric gear if your goal is you want to feel tanky / provide worthwhile support / and have good damage.

Well, for general Heart of Thorns, I found berserker with full meditiations and monk’s focus did fairly decent damage as a “going in and staying in” playstyle

GW2 is a game where u only need damage, defense easilly gets shatered by DPS classes, and in PVE you would get old age before kill a high health pool veteran mob.
Healing power never was good in guardian, it needs to sacrifice all other stats to be a good stat and that would get you in several problems, low vit, very low damage, “tankish” builds only works in pve, still some mobs if u dont dodge or block u will get 1hit ko due guardian being one of the low health class, etc.

Best defense here is kill target before he kills you, guards are not that tanky(only a bit sturdy due Shelter and RF, hardly a guardian survives w/o one of them, class is to much dependabe on this 2 skills)u got several classes with better surviability duration.

healing power guards were the build that were used in the first month of the game then people change build because was not good when people learned the game.

Advice: as much i wold love to play a healing build (i use mace/shield ), it does not work, most armor stats are useless and create a impression that builds exis, STILL if u want to get something arround that get your healing power somewhere arround ~600 and increase other stats as damage, u will notice that far u increase output damage game gets easy.

1st April joke, when gw2 receives a “balance” update.
