I think overall Dragonhunter is good, just need to tone the damage on traps down a bit (not into the ground just not able to take people out by themselves).

The thing about DH is, there’s a problem with visual ques. Sometimes people don’t see the trap visuals probably because of the constant stealth usage from trapper runes. That combined with the intense damage and the possibility of comboing with other skills, it just becomes crazy in team fights.
Fighting on point has never been more dangerous.

It may be another week or two before they nerf certain items (meta still has to settle) but i’m curious if DH bursts really needs a look into.
In ESL, people weren’t exactly pressuring the Guardians as well as they should have. It wasn’t until the last couple of games where Abjured did just that to one of the teams; heavily applying pressure and CC to the Guards.

I’ll be putting out a video tomorrow detailing the strengths and weaknesses of the dh as a whole. I think it’ll be very eye opening.
Dragonhunter have virtues on cast time – its big nerf especially Virtue of resolve, because I am interupted in 80% times while casting it – 1 sec. (it needs avoidance or make it heal yourself before jump and heal other if we jump to that spot)
Traps are not that bad, full trapper is death wish.
DH traits do not synergize with other vanilla skills.
Ppl need to learn counterplay, in few weeks maybe.
Overall I would give it 7/10. Not bad but not that good. (Reaper, Revenant, Scrapper and especially Chrono are better in every way)
Trap spam being highly effective at low and mid skill levels for not much thought or planning involved is the main issue. But it’s not very different from ranger trap spam.
I think the biggest issue is that the Spear of Justice pull is too much, especially in combination with the trap pile. The spear itself is 0.25s cast with a fast projectile and the pull is 1200 range. It’s effectively un-dodgeable CC with no drawback, which can be comboed into more CC and heavy damage.
I’m hoping ANet ignores the forums for the most part and just looks/balances according to what goes on their comps.
True Shot is like Warrior Killshot only with a 3/4 cast time, with a weak animation, on a 4s CD, and ungaited by anything like Adrenaline. Traited it’ll give you a free knockback/interrupt (on any arrow) on a 10s cd anytime anyone comes into melee (War Rifle Butt is 15s, Mes GS 5 is 30s cd, Engies Overcharged shot 15s). So pretty much between an AA and LB 2, on top of the rest of Guard/DH’s natural setup, it can get pretty whack -_-u
I don’t think that DH should be nerfed. I do not play DH. I play rev, staff ele and engi.
The amount of people who have just started playing guardian now though is absolutely ridiculous. In conquest there are always now at least 4 guardians in every game, sometimes 3 on a team which should normally be fairly rare rather than every second game.
I don’t like seeing things nerfed usually, but I just hate how everyone has suddenly become a guardian main and I’m perma-trapped on a point in conquest.
The more people who jump on the bandwagon, the more other professions are going to QQ.
Guardians, please, send the horde back from whence they came.
Considering how much bawwing there was about how kittenty this elite spec was, i certainly hope Anet devs ignore the whining. It’s not like DH is even the main thing people are complaining about. They are also complaining about reapers and chronos, and only because those have made them forget about burn guards and vanilla mesmers.
People only complain about the flashiest thing that’s kicking their kitten and rarely about the specs that really win team fights, such as shout guards.
I see lots of bad DH out there. They are far from being op, look at scrappers, reapers, chronos and revenants, they are far superior (especially revenant).
If they nerf Guardians because of pvp – again it will be effective in pve – again (Feel My Wrath, e.g.) So sad for guardians if that happens – again.

I just played against a condi PU Mesmer using reflection heal and reflect on dodge.
I don’t like how I can’t get out of Maw when I use Lightning Reflexes to stunbreak. So I’m literally forced to sit there in the traps and hope I don’t die while I try to cast SotP for my stab.

What you don’t like the 12 seconds of barrier that prevents any form of action even dodging besides stability and teleports? I like how it’s invisible 90% of the time so I can’ even tell what’s happening.

It’s unfortunate bc I don’t want to run SoS, but I might have to if dhs don’t go away. I don’t really blame the trap though. I mean it is an elite so it’s supposed to be powerful, but Rangers don’t have a teleport or instant stab, so getting out of it is quite a chore.
I didn’t play much Dragonhunter during the beta. I tried to play a bit but couldn’t take the class. But as soon as HoT launched, I borrowed my Ranger’s ascended Longbow and hit the jungle. I found the Hero Point cap helped. I had all the core Tyria Hero Points so was able to be an adept Dragonhunter, but I couldn’t go traps as I didn’t have enough unlocked.
So I was greatsword/longbow + shouts for a long time. It got me used to the longbow, and now I am greatsword/longbow + traps. I find the traps work better with a greatsword and then when I can’t tanks anymore, use wings of resolve to escape to range and switch to the bow.
I am enjoying the Dragonhunter gameplay but I haven’t been game enough to try it in PvP and WvW yet. However, I can see why some people are Q.Qing. But let’s face facts here, Dragonhunter is probably one of the easiest elite specs to master. It augments our normal gameplay more then it changes it. When the others have mastered their elite spec, they will stop Q.Qing. I am going to hope Anet knows this and doesn’t do any pre-mature nerfs.

We finally have a decent spec and damage/ranged options other then just meditations. What do we see? A bunch of QQ because people don’t understand how to dodge trueshot or see the most obvious judges burst combo.
My concern is Anet tends to listen to noobs/whiners quite easily, just like how they nerfed 100b warrior when it first came out. Dps guardian has been so kitten in pvp for so long and now everyone is QQ’ing.
Should we be concerned? Well I am because guardian may just go back to being irrelevant if Anet decides to listen to QQ’rs.
“back to being irrelevant”. Guardians have never been irrelevant. That said, as much as I can’t stand the awful design behind DHs, I don’t really see them as a problem (from what I’ve played). There are other elite specs that are way worse.

True shot is a white Arrow hitten between Swords and Crystals from the DH traps its very hard to see when its used as that combo blends together.
they also changed rangers pbs shot to have a Black arrow trail when fired, so it does not blend into the area previously it was also White making it nearly non-visable same goes for Trueshot and with its low cast time and low cooldown you can’t dodge every time he fires , that ontop the DH has two Teleports one on sword one on LB and a extra swoop as a Virtue.
when a DH does this most player Expect a Medi guard/burn guard type burst right after the teleport so they dodge instintively every time the DH teleports making it much much easier to land a trueshot each and everytime.
and since it Peirces + can grant stability on a 4second cooldown , it ether needs a longer cooldown(6seconds) because of its Utilitiy the stability granted lasts 6seconds so it can carry over into the second trueshot making the DH have pretty much enough Stability to take any CC he likes after the first Trueshot.
or just simply if you want to keep the 4second cooldown and that amount of Utility+damage , one or the other must be reduced.
The problem with Dragonhunter is that it beats anything with low survivability and/or stab sources without counterplay and is easily beaten by anything with sustain. It’s not balanced, it’s binary.

I play quite a lot of PVP and and finding 4-6 guardians in a single game is extremely rare. You may have just had a weird RNG string of games.
I think guardian has been quite strong for awhile, and it has been pretty kitten common. With the bunker and burn builds, being very solid and relatively easy to play, now the DH trap build is added to that.
I do think people will learn to counter it… Meta needs time to settle, as others have said. But yeah, thieves, staff eles and rangers have a really, really bad time against trap DH.

You don’t need to see the true shot. You just need to see the guard take the position, which is enough time to know when to evade.
Also, the stability is from heavy light. Which has a 10s CD. Which needs you to land an attack prior to it. Not that it makes the trait any less powerful, but people need to stop altering facts in an effort to nerf classes.

Guardian hasn’t been top 4 ever since MAYBE you could argue bunker guard was during the zoo ranger meta.

What? That has not been my experience at all. IDK, I don’t pvp that much only r20, but out of all the pvp matches I played yesterday, around 12, I only encountered ONE other player besides me running DH.
I also only encountered 2 other revenants when I was on my rev, which was surprising.

to me, ultimately, ppl are QQ-ing is due to the problem where they still are very unfamiliar to the mechanics of the class and they dont know how to dodge… give it some time and if DEV are still not in a nerf crazy mode, i believe DH wouldn’t be nerfed to the ground like warriors…
Edit: not to mention, all traps has a cast time and if DH were to take the maw, they lose their invul skill which is one of the most precious personal defense skill. so i think with such a big trade off this kind of result is really to be expected…

Glaphe, I catch you in every single hunter’s ward. Why? I because I know that as soon as I start casting it on the point, you’re not going to move. As my blue arrows rain from the sky, you stand on point spamming shortbow 3 in a circle. You really need to adjust your play style if you don’t want to get caught in Hunter’s Ward.

Dragonhunter is extremely weak to mesmers, both chrono and regular, as well as having a bad time with reapers and scrappers.
The lack of instant cast virtues turned a 1v1 match with a PU shatter mesmer from slightly not in our favor to an absolutely terrible matchup, and a chronomancer with the shield block is… yeah.
Other classes have got it just as good if not better. Why cry about this?

It must be better than this because you sacrifice heal (medi) + block+ another heal for it. (RF)
but I am not satisfied with trap heal, it needs to go down to 16 sec traited (20 sekittenraited) and heal nerfed to 3k on putting and 3k on activation. Maybe I will than take it instead of my block shelter.

They really dont give a kitten, using Renewed Focus is just a no brainer now (although it already was).
i’m actually ok with this nerf. 2 seconds less on Test of Faith seems fair for its low CD. We can work with this.

I feel sorry for thieves. At least our spec works, they got a glorified monkey king tonic.
However, no one seems to pay attention to the fact that DH will lose to a scrapper, reaper, chronomancer or a regular mesmer.
