Crit damage
Depends on your target, but ya 12k is extremely unrealistic on that build even in full zerker.
Heavens Rage
Is there a build that would do 12k? Ive seen many guard videos, urs included & usually 5-6k maxes out. I’m just trying to see the damage potential of guardian. Targets are pretty much PvE, farming, dungeon stuff, bosses, etc. Btw good vids!
This is what got me thinking & Ive never fully explored the dps potential.. I mean 2nd to warrior im doubtful but I figured let me test it, I’ve never gone high in crit dmg but sitting at 86% now i doubt 4% will net me 12k dmg..
I have to agree with the OP in this one. Most of the people who are disagreeing have not played the other professions thoroughly.
I have 5 level 80s, and leveling 2 more. My 80s are: Ele, Mes, War, Guard and Necro.
I have tried pure DPS and pure support for all these characters. Here are the results on these 5 ONLY (thief, and engineer undergoing evaluation).
Best DPS (power/condition):
1. Warrior, A+++
2. Guardian, A- (roll a 30+ crit chance, 90% crit damage one and see how stupid OP it is WHILE providing support. GS skill 2 can do over 12k damage easy)
3. Mesmer, B+
4. Elementalist, B-
5. Necromancer, C+Best Heals:
1. Guardian, A+
2. Warrior, A-
3. Elementalist, A-
4. Necromancer, A-
5. Mesmer, B-Highest non-heal support (condition removal, damage boost, etc):
1. Mesmer, A+++ (fields, feedback, portals, time warp)
2. Guardian, A+ (condition removal, blocking, stability, reflects)
3. Warrior, A- (shout heals, stat boosts)
4. Elementalist, B-
5. Necromancer, C-

25/15/30/0/0 or something similar.
Probably could do it, if you stack a lot of Might plus full zerker. Problem is you are going to be so squishy, it’s not even funny.
I hate to sound like a broken record, but super high dps guards aren’t that good. Just roll a Warrior. Yes, Guards can do high dmg. Problem is you have to sacrifice a lot to do it, and a Warrior will still out dps by a long shot.

Yeah I’m not going for high dps guard, I prefer my support build, but I was just curious of the damage potential of guardian. Mostly I’ve understood their damage is pretty low on the scale. So when I read that post I was like hmmm.. maybe I never gave dps a good enough testing.. and yeah, was about as good as I’ve done in the past, i have about 2700+ armor with the above stats and 16.5k HP. Just curiousity
What sort of #s do you put out in ur pve set?
With This PvE build highest dmg i have ever done on my guardian was about 10k (whirling wrath)
Thanks for the response guys! Kamil, it looks interesting, may give that build a shot when I play today, ty both
Hi,
into WvW with lolglasscannon build I managed to do some Whirlol of 8-10k on low armor players (moslty on lowbies…).
With that setup my autoattack did between 3-4.5k on crits if my memory is good enough =)
I pushed all power/critdmg% for awesome dmg but I was one-shotted even by Moa :p
On non-mobs I think +12k is indeed unrealistic (or maybe in a perfect condition with 25 stacks of mights, full vulnerability on the foe, low armor, ect…)
In pve, during bosses fights you can deal 15-17k damage with a bit more offensive oriented build.
I think you should give Warrior a try

I’ve seen those kind of numbers in PvE with a fairly standard berserker build.
( > 100 crit dmg, nearly 100 % crit chance with fury + 25 stacks of bloodlust )
Unfortunately the only screenie I have of that doesn’t quite reach that high.
( it’s an orian champion which has alot of vulnerability stacked against it ).
If memory serves that build had an effective power of about 6k – it is possible to reach as high as 10k with the right food, runes and traits ( and 12k epower when you take might and fury into account). I’ve not personally tested what real world hits that gives though and it does require alot of circumstances to be right to be remotely effective ( ie burning target, aegis up, high health etc ).
Your HP and armor will be a joke
As others have said, if you want big numbers then roll a warrior ;-)
That said – you can have quite a laugh surprise flattening people in WvW, but don’t expect to survive long after. ( Shield of Wrath -> Judges Intervention -> Mighty Blow with Smite Condition give a hefty burst )

I think you should give Warrior a try
Being a person who owns 2 level 80 guards all geared, and a Level 80 Warrior who is also geared, i will honestly say i don’t like Warrior’s Play style and kinda hate when people say that (Despite it being a good suggestion). I like my Characters to be balanced around PvE and WvW. I owkittenerker DPS guardian and I say it’s pretty fun and you catch a lot off guard. One thing is I’m able to kill thieves, elementalist, warriors and guardians. The only thing I pretty much lose to most of the time are Bunkerish guardians and people that come in groups 2+. As far as damage goes if not every hit from WW hits it’s around 5-7k damage, autos hit very hard the way i traited, so auto chain hits normally for 2k, 3rd chain hit can hit for 3k-3.5k also deepening on Vulnerability stacks with Greatsword and currently about 79% crit damageand over 2k power.

Screwing around for the last few days with traits in the mists and came up randomly with a 10k+ burst with whirling wrath off an unorthodox build. Granted it would never hold up in a real fight since it relies on aegis and over 90% life for another 30% damage, but fun to see big numbers.
Pretty much just took any +% to damage trait to see what we could dish out.

You never know, maybe someone can tweak this to make it combat effective. Or just use it for one shot surprise ganking then die immediately after =p
just for the hell of it I ran around in spvp with the above setup and I didn’t die as often as I expected to. I just kept in mind I was squishy as hell and ran away right after blowing my attacks.
I did notice that in effect the burst is avoided either by dodge rolling or simply just walking away, since combat is highly mobile anyway and the whirling wrath animation is a big tipper to get out of the ae.
So missing mobility and control as it is, otherwise it is fun to spin that wheel on people not expecting it. Saved a few downed allies with this. Not for serious gaming for sure though.

Whats the highest crit damage you get on guardian? I’m at 3100 atk 37% crit chance 86% crit dmg and with a few might stacks doesn’t deal as much damage as I’ve been told is possible (12k+??) with whirling wrath: 0/5/30/30/5. Am I missing something or is 12k not realistic? I haven’t even broken 7k, think ive seen that once as guardian.
With similar stats, I sometimes see numbers of 10-12k appear for my WW when in dungeons. But that is pretty rare and not at all reproducible due to the way WW is currently designed. The devs should redesign it to make the damage more consistent – variation between 2.5k and 12k (for my guardian) is ridiculous.

If you think about it, our baseline damage with no “conditional multipliers” is around 5-7k.
Now add vulnerability stacks, might stacks, and more damage if: burning/has conditions/per boon/below a % of life or what not.
Now you have potentially 25-50% extra damage.
So if you are doing 7k damage regularly based on stats, having damage multipliers would have you doing 10k damage.
Of course, what do you sacrifice to achieve those numbers versus other professions? (answer is survivability and utility)
Just wanted to update.. so same stats as before, running CoF with the +9% damage from the Flame Legion pot.. 11.8k crit damage once out of a few runs, 2nd highest was 10.8k. When I saw 11.8k I was like holy smokes!
Just messing around with guard’s potential because, what else is there to do after a while? I’ve walked around with >1k healing for a while, trying out the dps aspect. But yes like CptAurellian said, damage is not consistent.. I was usually doing between 4ks-7ks then at times 8-9ks. Only broke 10k twice in about 4 runs of CoF P1. Auto attacks were dealing 2-3k+ crits just pure damage no debuffs.
I was curious, people tell you guardians can deal damage, well I just wanted to see what sort of damage they’re talking about.
Tarsius.3170 ’s SS shows 11.8k aswell, anyone seen higher? Btw nice dmg CMF :-)

just for fun : ))

seems to be more “consistent”, to a certain extent, on the mighty blows as opposed to WW’s but still awesome to see this type of power. note that his build is quite viable in WvW but you need to be extra mindful of what’s around you and what’s going on. also, works lot better if you’ve organized small groups with you so you allies can help supplement what you may be missing in more traditional bunker or hybrid builds. even then, it’s able to hold it’s own. i run sth similar and while id on’t see numbers AS high, still fun.D
he details his build in more depth in his other videos titled Zealous Defender.

I was having fun with a similar build too, although yesterday I retraited back to something more traditional.
It’s fantastic in roving small group combat, but doesn’t stand up well to the kind of zergs I’ve been running into since the patch.
I get jealous every time I see pictures of g dub in high quality. I have to play at lowest settings =(((
I make PvP & WvW videos
I usually roll the 0/15/30/30/5 that some of the AH builds use, except I don’t use AH anymore lol.
With those specs and with my Critical Damage, I can still hit Crits of Over 6-7k and I’m happy with it while being very durable
