Crithammer, one way of playing with it.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
If i remember correctly Beryl orbs has 2% critical damage, 20 power, 14 vitality or:
6*orbs
12% crit damage
120 power
84 vitality
Emeralds has pov/pre/tougness i think.
My point was that if your not after the “extra” synergy most runes give you then orbs are infact better or just as goodin order to achive certain stats and at a fraction of the price.
You just have to swap some jewelry to achive the exact same thing at a fraction of the price.
No you aint gettging the bonus from unequipped gear, all my runed gear are blue when in the inventory. And consindering i have 4 different runed gears now it would be silly OP :-)
Your stats looked really nice, most people in here actually have more balance then i have in some of my setups, got to get home and fix that.
sorry for posting, unable to edit right now..
have some more questions regarding lifesteal..hope i didn’t miss anything, but it seems to run the lifesteal you would want 4/runes of vampirism? secondly, regarding the the 4th set bonus. does this mean a 100% trigger of lifesteal after using healing skill (i assume this only means your “#6” skill).
then my question is, what would be most leveraging for the remaining two runes on your gear? since healing doesn’t seem to add much in a lifesteal build we can perhaps rule that out. if using in tandem with blood sigil, maybe focus on runes that raise your crit chance %?
After some testing, i found that Runes of Vampirism may not be effective at all and then only the 2 set bonus seems viable.
They only give 5% of lifesteal (2/set) and a guaranteed lifesteal after the healing(4/set): granted, it could be useful, but i am using 4 runes for a single additional “heal” (of indefinite amount) every healing CD? No, no, i would rather stack precision on runes.
If you want the 2-pieces set, then i would stack precision with Orbs or Rune of Ranger/Eagle/Lyssa (3xset+1xother set) in the other runes.

I may be making some other changes too like the sigils. Currently I’m using the Sigil of Accuracy to get to 49% but I’m thinking of using Sigil of Perception on the Staff and change the Hammer Sigil to Sigil of Blood since I’m using the Omnomberry Pie already. Sigil of Perception will get me to 55% Crit Chance instead. What are your thoughts on my new Runes/stats/Sigils/etc?
Just to point out, Omnomberry Pie is for Magic Find, the lifesteal food is Omnomberry Ghost.
Actually, I’m correct. Omnomberry Pie is 66% Lifesteal on Crit +70 Precision.
That is weird, i used Ghost yesterday and the day before and i had 66% lifesteal blue icon.
Will check again when i get back home from work,
@Zarovich:
Ok, sorry, i confused the Omnomberry Bars with the Omnomberry Pies
The Omnomberry Ghost is identical to the Pie, but i think is stagional (and cheaper).
To answer your question, i don’t think they add up, rather they are two separate Life Steals, technically is the same (percentage adds up), but it could happen (theoreticaly) that they both proc.
I have to run my last tests to discern this.
I cannot find the sigil of Perception in the db. Could it be the sigil of Accuracy (+5% crit chance)? However, as you have to swap weapons to bring the sigil of blood into play, the staff sigil will be deactivated. So it doesn’t matter in the hammer equation.
I have the same weapon setup, but i have energy in the staff.

I’m still trying to figure, how do you get more vitality on your gear for WvW and maintain your high crit% and toughness? It seems like in every case, adding vitality will cost you one of those stats, dropping your crit down below 50% towards 40% or your armor below 3k. I suppose you would have to lose some precision, maybe swap Knight’s out for Soldier’s (pow/tuff/vit) gear? I’m having a tough time even trying to maintain a 50% crit, 3k armor, 15k health build in pve for ‘tanking’ in dungeons while I finish off my gear.
Just using Sigil of Blood and the 60% food I was face tanking most mobs in Arah last night without having to use my heal very much. Regen/Protection, AH and lifesteals were plenty to keep me going.
@Lubrication
with a 0//15/30/20/5 build in knights gear with rune of the soldier and berserker hammer i have these stats:
Armor: 3203
Attack:2788
Crit chance 51%
Critdamage 43%
Health in stats 14455
Health in UI 15322 (I never figured out here the extra 800 health comes from)
These seems to be in the limit you seek, with no food ofc.
What gear do you use?

Correction, it was omnomberry pie and i also have Ghost.
@Brutaly
That’s close to what I have, though I’ve got 30 in Honor at the moment. Looking back, I think I was referencing some of your earlier posts about having 17k health in sPvP and nearly 16k health in WvW. I can see now where you sacrificed stats in those cases (armor and crit chance, respectively).
I think the difference that I need to make up in health will be in adding Runes of the Soldier to my armor – I’ve got Crests of the Magi at the moment.
@Lubrication
Ok, then we are on the same page.
May i recommend that you check this thread out, unless you already has.

I think EvenignStar has a very intelligent approach on our healthpools and what a desired healthpool is in wvw. The sections discussing front loaded damage, the relative impact on heals and overhealing is very interesting indeed.
I can say as much that intuitively that is how i always seen on the guardian healthpool and the use of active means to mitigate/negate damage
My point was, dont look so much at your HP, 14500-1500 is enough for any activity in this game. I have marginally more when i storm in to the front of an enemy zerg and there are almost always means, time and cooldowns that give me time to abort a badly planned attack and get back to my own.

Maybe you were referencing the stats I posted:
Attack: 3034
Armor: 3057
Health: 15,715
Crit Chance: 49%
Crit Damage: 52%
These can be achieved while mixing in food while wearing Knights Armor w/Pack runes and mixed Jewerly of Beryl/Emerald/Ruby Exotic.
Also it sounds like someone is confused on Sigil of Perception since its different then Accuracy. Perception allows up to 25 stacks of Precision and you will benefit from this even if its slotted on your secondary weapon like a Staff. So in essence this can give you a 10% bonus instead of the 5% Accuracy gives while still allowing you to use Sigil of Blood on your Hammer.
I’m still working everything out on my character but here is what I have so far and it seems to work overall. I think the main issues are mine alone such as when to do what, keeping targets, and binding keys. I’m really horrible at key binding (which my children seem to point out nightly (I think I’m going to ground them!!!)).
Power – 1719
Precision – 1713
Toughness – 1659
Vitality – 1204
Attack – 2830
Crit – 42%
Armor – 2870
Health – 14,085
Build: 0/15/30/20/5
No buffs, WvWvW, food, etc. Just basic stuff that I have on.
Night Draconic – exotic
Ruby Mithril Berserker – Rare accessories (no back, not sure why)
Invader hammer – exotic (accuracy sigil)
Beserker staff – exotic (accuracy sigil)
1 Rune of Lyssa (Rare)(helm)
5 Rune of Eagle (Rare)
I have about 5 or 6 gold left to play with. About 200,000 karma, and 300 or so badges of honor. Was going to save up for the million karma and 500 badges before I do anything else in case I want to do a legedary. So I’m on minimal funds and will do my best to make this work.
I do like the idea of 1 handed sword and focus (I prefer shields actually for looks) and enjoy it when I’ve played it. However, I don’t have exotics of either so not sure what I’ll do let alone a skin style I can cover the basic stuff with.
Johnny Johnny – Ranger (Ehmry Bay)
Hárvey Wallbanger – Alt Warrior (Ehmry Bay)
@Fabsm – okay, that makes more sense. i was trying to justify the 4pc set as well, and seeing that i try not to use my heal as a last resort, the extra life leech might be “overkill” or “wasted”. that’s just my own personal playstyle. and agreed that would proably be most beneficial to pairing it up with the combination of precision runes as you’ved listed.
this is on the to-do or to-try list!
@Crapgame – hahaha, not to keep pushing your buttons, it’s pretty funny your kids point that out to you. joking aside.. is it a matter of choosing what keys to bind where? or having to get used to them afterwards? it all comes with practice. along with keeping targets, switching targets and repositioning where you hit, or for e.g. turning to place your symbol on one group of mobs, then switching targets to MB on another that’s almost dead to take them out of the picture, while triggering the combo and boons galore…
in terms of weapons.. right now, the only exotics i have are the weapon sets i use most (hammer no doubt, and then scepter, shield, and staff.. the rest of my weps are rares or even greens (gasp!). i still definitely carry them all in my inv, and upgrade when i can. if you’d like to focus on the sword and focus, keep testing them out with what you have now, or maybe in a lower-level zone or even with the testing dummies and then start saving or investing. as much as we all love the hammer, we should definitely leverage on all the various skill and weapon sets we’ve given to truly become a formidable force – in dealing damage, in controlling crowds, in offering support. so versatile with the hammer, and the ton of diff combinations of weapons available to us further augment that.

@Brutaly
Firstly, thank you for your awesome write up on the crithammer build. It’s given me a very good insight into playing a crit guardian and I’m loving that playstyle.
Now I would like your opinion on which build would be better:
Option A:
0/15/30/20/5
Gear: Knight’s helm, chest, boots, gloves. Aurora (Power/Tough/Vit) shoulders and leggings. All socketed with Beryl Orbs as I’m noticing that my health is extremely low (around 14k) and I’m afraid that it might be a liability in WvWvW. Accessories are all Knight’s.With that gear I have around 2900 Attack, 53% crit chance, 3000 armor and only 14k health.
or
Option B:
0/5/30/30/5
Gear: Same as above, but socketed with all Emerald Orbs. Can’t remember the exact stats with this setup as I don’t have access to my character atm (at work now).
I’m hoping that you can shed some light into what the key distinctions are between these two specs and what are the pros and cons of these two.
Thank you!
Can you show your completed build please (weapon, trait, util etc..) ?
Sorry for my english, i’m french. I don’t understand all but i want play crithammer in WvW principaly. I don’t know what secondary weapon take, build do and utils take. Can you help me ?
hey Grine – the whole point of the build is that there is no specific build or trait line you need to follow. and the OP wanted to give us, as users, the flexibility to build it up so that we can choose the utilities and skills that we prefer. for e.g. in the Honor line, there are a handful of major traits you can choose that would be very strong with this idea of a build and many people choose different things. for example, i chose two-handed mastery, larger symbols and symbols that heal. many will go for empowering might, or longer lasting symbols. some may not even put all 30 points into Honor.
as for secondary weapon, if you plan to use it in WvW, i would suggest Scepter / focus. if not, then the staff is a very good choice as well. however, again, it’s all up to you to find something that works. : )))
hope this helps. however, if you have questions regarding the fundamentals of the build, am sure many will be willing to chime in and help.
