I am trying to decide whether I want to play a guard or not. I dig the mechanics and visuals but the armor…blagh. All big chunky plate.

I saw some armor today that I kind of liked, but it was Gem. I also saw another decent looking armor (like sleek plate with a sort of avian/feather motif) but could not work out where it came from.

Oh and that nightmare court armor is sexy but I doubt I’m ever going to get into that place :|.

Any cool sets of plate that don’t look ‘chunky’?

Have you checked the wardrobe feature on your bank? There you can preview most (yeah, not all) armor.

almost everything can be tanky, to be honest, I’ve seen a bunker version of every profession in SPvP since the release, I’m just not sure with mesmer, don’t remember… not everything is still viable, but as you talk about PvE, everything can be tanky but in PvE, people usually don’t play very tanky builds, it’s just not worth it…

You can also have a ninja guardian.

Outfits are generally the best way to have a guardian that doesn’t look heavily armored. In terms of normal equipment that doesn’t look too bulky, you can try zodiac armor, certain pieces of vigil armor, carapace/luminescent armor, banded boots don’t look heavy, Body of Koda leg armor doesn’t look heavy, and there are also equipment skins available to all classes that don’t look heavy (scarfs, masks, earmuffs, the laurel, etc).

There are plenty of heavy armor skins in the game that don’t look gigantic. A big part of aesthetics is the race u are. On a Norn and sylvari for example most shoulder pieces will look gigantic and really bulky.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match skins. As far as non bulky sets….

Order of Whispers
Dragonic
Ascalonian Catacombs
Honor of the Waves
Pit Fighter
Barbaric
Phalanx ( – shoulders, gem store)
Ascended
Human Tier 1 cultural

Just a few examples I can think of, off the top of my head…

Also try looking at the vigil armor sets.

If you like the Nightmare Court armor roll a Sylvari. The cultural armor isn’t a million miles away.

Def look at the ingame wardrobe in your bank.
The wiki also has pages for heavy armor sets on different races. They even just got a visual update with some really nice pictures.

Yeah definitely depends on the armor. Before rolling a toon though look into cultural armor. The asuran t3 heavy is nice. You can copy and paste the links into the GW chat to preview them on your toon.

Always. If you can’t look good from dozens of individual sets you can combine for a look you like … I doubt you will ever get it. Lots of non-chucky bits I think.

I would like more not heavy looking armors too:) Is it too much to ask for less fabric?

Braham’s top and pants look pretty good if you don’t want a super armor-ey look. The boots are the crafted Gladiator ones btw.

I like this top because it looks kind of like a tank top, even though it’s made of metal, lol. Pants are Phalanx.
