Dragonhunter
Unpredictable and lovely. If necros are mad at the chronomancer, rangers will get mad at dragonhunters.

Need to look more into it. not as interesting as expected.

That. Was. Unexpected..
Donno how I feel really o.O
They seem to have given us the stuff that should be given to rangers to fix them.
I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS REVEAL! Totally unexpected and unconventional! Well done ANet! <3

That Damage from Bow seem weak and slow….
Item 1: They DID NOT use up the “Paragon” name without delivering Terrestrial spears. Hell yes. The future looks bright indeed on that front.
Item 2: Ok, not what I expected, but still hella sweet. And just to gloat a little… Superior Rune of the Trapper. Learn it. Live it. Love it.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Lame.
Virtue’s seem to have gotten a nerf in terms of QoL for all group members. I see party members / nearby allies suffering by this change while individuals that have the effects casted on them receive more benefit.
And as for “Dragonhunter”: Great, now we’re kitten’n rangers w/ bows & traps…. kitten’n lame.
Seriously -
Why do the Dev’s have their head so far up their kitten when it comes to guardians?

I love playing long range condi/support with traps… said no one ever.
I like the virtues change, but if the rest is as bad as it looks, I`ll never use this specialization. “Dragonhunter” is also a pretty meh title which doesn’t thematically fit with the guardian.
I`ll check out the stream tommorow to see if it can change my mind at all, but currently I’m dissapointed.

Bit soon to judge. I imagine even when we see live demos they’ll be sporting full cleric armor.
I’m quite happy if they’re big attacks vs fast pew-pew, but I just hope we don’t end up with floating tennis-ball style projectiles.

kittenty name aside, i can’t believe they just took traps from the ranger and put it on a guardian, wtf man…
The Guardian specialization seem PvP all the way, not so much interesting thing for PvE.
We’ll we have a true hybrid condi/power build with bleed now, maybe even a Celestial build who know. These virtue active seem nice, leap and block are always welcome in PvP, while the F1 spear could be another burst skill for the medi guardian. We’ll see for the Longbow, but the Symbol of Energy seem awesome. Going on a point with your Longbow, putting a symbol of energy on the point and start the fight with vigor to evade that initial burst or when you need to keep a point a little longer. We’ll need to see more about the other skills. And of course those trap could be nice in a trapper build.
looks like the traps are in fact ground target, and getting a Ward Trap… that could be cool.
While traps might be underwhelming. I think people are undeeeestimatng the significance of the virtue changes. That extra leap could make for a pretty good addition to LB/GS, Hambow or even more standard set ups. Remember not all parts of specializations are required.

thats what I was thinking… why give us something that broken for rangers..?

that aim based spear may have problems like Flame Thrower kit does. thats my concern.
Also is that leap ground target or not?

I believe it said it was ground targeted. And they seem to get the mist wall shield from revanant hammer on their courage virtue. I could see the new stuff being pretty useful, honestly. Just avoid traps if you don’t like them, just like any other build. People still get 3 trait lines… Meditation Dragonhunters with more mobility and blocks? I cant imagine that not being successful. Especially if the new trait that makes the courage leap also deal damage when you land, the burst potential could be real.

I guess the RP market is pretty huge
Ranger is the class I like the less from the game, never liked ranged combat. Bit early to say it’s goin to be a ranger copy/paste but I think they’re trying to maske support more appealing as right now there’s no difference between the support a full cleric Guardian vs a full zerker Guardian and people prefer the last one because it deals damage and is usually traited for more active defenses than AH builds.
Will the Dragonhunter be the new dungeon underdog? I, mean heals+ranger you can’t get any worst… Only time and HoT release will tell us.
Could be fun for PvP thou^^
This reveal diminishes my hopes not just for the Guardian but for the rest of the professions to come.
What the kitten.
These Longbow skills and traps better be exkitteningceptional.
I can’t even. Not even a little bit.
This is…
Nope.
“Druid” for Ranger makes some sense. Chronomancer Mesmer makes some sense. But Dragonhunter? I’m not making the connection at all.
(edited by FrenzyCat.9614)
From their description, it sounds like the dragonhunter is strictly a support profession. I don’t like that. I am a solo player so it sounds like it has nothing for me.
Still, have to wait until we hear more. Perhaps it can do more than support.

only 1 class was going to get the /ranger off class, and it was us. I doubt other class’ elite spec will be this lame…..

Pretty much this. I was so excited after seeing the Chronomancer, but now all of that hype is totally gone.
I hope we at least get some of the new boons and conditions….
How about a Taunt on one of our skills?

Just because you take the trait line it doesn’t mean you’re forced into traps… Take it for the updated virtues, the bow and use non-trap related traits. I don’t see what the issue is here… Similar to other traits, just because you go into the trait line with Monk’s focus, it doesn’t mean you’re ALWAYS going to be running a Medi build. Altruistic healing exists too. Point is, just because it opens up those options, it doesn’t mean all of those options are mandatory… Get creative.

So they gave us more support and useless traps that hardly anyone uses on other classes atm. Sounds great…

Then all that work developing those traits etc is wasted and they shouldn’t really be on the guardians trait lines. Traps are majorly flawed for rangers and guardians are not the type to hang around in the background at all, that’s why we have all the blocks.
I wanna know who thought this would be a good idea. I get they tried to solve the guardian lacking a ranged wep and condi spec in one go but they didn’t need to, seriously, most guardians really only wanted a viable ranged wep while not really caring much about condi as condi sees very limited use outside of sPvP. I would have figured the guardian would have gone down the route of more shouts and chants (old paragon skill type, think channeled shout).
They had it right there, the paragon, right there, fully thematically designed with obvious paths.

Whether or not traps are useless are both another argument and to even be determined. They might work out great. MY point is that “Dragonhunter” itself is not innately useless all because it opens up traps. There very well may still be good uses for the line, even if your intentions are not set on traps. No line in the game forces a utility type, while some may enhance a type, it is still not the only use for the line.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
they should never have called it traps… they belong to the ranger domain… rangers are the hunters… not guardians…
specialization should not be mixing classes together… especially in this case, it is an outright copy and dump… with a less than desirable name…
Well at least we know from the video that they can solo a dinosaur

They won’t work out great. It’s quite simple to beat a trapper build, you just don’t walk in it. We have disappointing skills and a disappointing weapon, no need for the “hey it may not be entirely useless” stuff.
I am glad I am a Guardian, because I need meditation right now….

I think this is what I’m MOST disappointed about. The chronomancer feels like it’s unique, and new, and exciting, and most importantly something totally different than anything we have currently.
THIS feels like they seriously took a guardian to ranger school for a day. If I wanted to play like a ranger I’d play my ranger. Why don’t we get to have something unique too?
specialization should not be mixing classes together…
From what I gather that is the whole point of specializations. In GW1 you could always combine 2 professions. In GW2 this role seems to be done by elite specializations. In this case it was obviously a combination of Guardian and Ranger as Chronomancer seems to be a combination of Mesmer and Necromancer.
Chronomancy works, I am proof of it. Now stop asking me questions. Time must be preserved!
You’ll never get our Ranger pets!
Having little buddies you can name is our domain :-p
Try your best to not make mistakes, but, when you do make mistakes, learn from them.
Better yourself.

You know, that you can (currently) throw the traps on the target to let them proc instantly?
Another great idea is to just stand ontop of them, so if a melee wants to attack you, he will get hit … wow, who would have thought of that?
Edit: Even just using them for stealth and superspeed through the runes makes low CD traps a great survivalability utility.

Guardians before announcement:
“Wah, where is my condi?Wah, where is my long range weapon?”
Guardians after the announcement:
“Wah, condi, wah ranged weapon, wah, st00pid name”
You guys already have strong positions in pvp, pve, and wvw. Why aren’t you excited about getting specialisation skills that make your class more intricate and unique. Or would you prefer adding another 5 shouts to your utility bar?
Although we haven’t seen any of this in detail yet it seems as though you’re getting exactly what you’ve all been calling for, condi and more viable range.
Be happy. <- smile like this.

As someone who has been out of the game for months, ever since HOT reveal, I was hoping and waiting for the time they’ll reveal something interesting for Guardians, the specialization and I must say, I didn’t expect this. Feels very underwhelming.
And what’s with the name?
Dragonhunter? Sounds like something 13 year old would name.
Feel like they should’ve demonstrated one of the traps in the video, but it’s too soon to judge Dragonhunter just yet.
But, how will we shorten it to a syllable-or-two long title. DH? Hunts? Drags? Nah, DH will probably be it.

You know that the people that were cheering for and hoping for it, and the people not happy that they’re getting it aren’t the same people, right?
