Eternal Spirit- Spirit weapons does 10% more damage and is invulnerable to damage.

  • Requires heavy investment in Zeal traits.
  • Doesn’t kill spirit weapons build outright.

Not terrible, but you’d also have to make sure that spirit weapons with this upgrade can’t take aggro (or they’d become infinite damage sink off-tanks).

Yeah I bug reported the spirit weapons on the day of patch release and suggested something similar. It’s nice because it encourages the use of Zeal.

I would like that very much, but are you talking about Eternal Spirit or Wrathful Spirits?

Eternal Spirit - Spirit weapons are not destroyed when commanded.
Wrathful Spirits - Increases spirit weapon damage by 10%.

To me it would be best if Eternal Spirit could be changed to:

Spirit weapons are invulnerable and not destroyed when commanded.

Wrathful Spirits is a bit of an odd duck as it is a Grandmaster trait offering only 10% damage. So I Wrathful Spirits could do with an additional benefit (considering the limited duration of Spirit Weapons).

Agreed that Wrathful Spirits sux — why waste 30 pts for that trait?

Rather than make them invulnerable with a trait, I’d rather see Wrathful Spirits do something like:

Wrathful Spirits — Spirit weapons are persistent after summoning.

So if you summon a weapon it stays around forever until it dies (i.e. it becomes a pet like a necro’s minions). The skills can still have the cooldowns when the spirits die as that makes sense.

The weapons would need more health, or be able to regenerate health outside of combat. If they don’t regenerate, then they’d need the ability to receive boons from players (like necro pets).

Part of me thinks that someone in ANet was thinking “hey, wanna see something funny? Watch this…”

This is like a psychological experiment.

Unless you think Spirit Weapons were extremely good (AH/MF level), then there’s no reason to go for that trait.

Before, even the most hardcore SW users would go only 20 in Zeal. Only other reason this might seem good is psychological because they’re completely worthless now.
