Guild Wars 2

I’m feeling a little bit bored of the Guardian where as I take my hammer, use Mighty Blow, switch to Staff and use 2 and 4, while popping all my shouts and virtues.

In a large zerg for WvWvW all I do is tag opponents with the staff.

There must be more to the Guardian than that.

Perhaps my problem is I’m not using any other build except 0/5/30/30/5 or trying out other play styles.

Am I doing something incorrectly?

I think you answered your own question right there. But to further take the argument, I’d say that whenever I’m in a rut as such, I try to stay away from pre-tested builds, and instead try to come up with a whole original one on my own. The testing itself is fun and when I find something truly unique, the effects are devastating in PvP and exciting in PvE. Just my opinion

If you have badges or gold, try something different. That is actually what I’m doing now.

I originally played the one of the first AH builds posted here. Was fun. Then swapped everything around and played more of a support / healing build. That was good up till this patch and I found myself in your position. Not so much bored, but wanting to actually try a DPS role for once.

So has of now I’m trying to see if I can muster up a build using my previous Knights armor and only buy accessories. Not sure if I can but who knows. Plan is to use Hammer, Shield, and Scepter. I could also use sword/shield. Budget of 10 gold roughly is what I can spend on accessories, sigs, etc. Not a lot so doubt this will work.

I’ve been tempted to try the zerker builds here but I know personally I’m not good at dodging so would probably get destroyed

This is my personal build at the moment. I know some people run a 0/30/10/30/0 build as well but I have not seen many use the gear layout I use. To see the full stats you will need to manually enter in 250 power for bloodlust stacks (I always have an off weapon staff to get stacks until at 25) and 80 more toughness for the strength in numbers update that has not been put in the build calc yet.

I use this build for everything from roaming to small groups to zergs and it has yet to really fail me. Conditions do almost nothing with the 56% condition duration reduction, and pure of voice turning them into boons on shouts. You get decent damage, 4k MB crits on average light armor, 2-3k on heavies depending on toughness. but you also get good self sustain through regen healing from SY, and virtue use, also virtue passive, and dodge roll healing, which gives you almost 800 every time you dodge. You also get plenty of aegis and AoE blinds to help negate damage as well.

Mobility is also a non issue, as you get good swiftness uptime, as previously mentioned, low condition uptime on you, which helps against snares and immobilize, and also a good gap closing weapon in GS, and a great CC weapon in Hammer. However this build is suitable to be played with pretty much all weapons, Though I do suggest at least one set containing sword or GS, to make sure Blind exposure is still worth it to have. Also, you can go with EM in honor over two hand mastery, I just prefer it to get faster leap of faith and zealots embrace activations, which really help with keeping up with people.

i played a 25/10/0/30/5 pre patch and was the most fun i had in quite some time. : ))

and as you test, some builds will work, some won’t but don’t be discouraged. when tryign new things, you’re bound to have to spend time and resources.

and might i add, stay away from the zerg at all costs if you feel bored there. ; )) had a long dragged out fight the other day with a thief and it was pretty darn exhilirating (sp?). even though i lost in the end : ((, and didn’t particularly “contribute” to the overall warfare of the Mists, it tested my ability to understand my class, and further, to understand the other classes mechanics, as well as the overall combat system. there’s nothing like being able to read your opponents move or figure out what they’re trying to do, and deny them of that.

I’ve tried all manner of builds, from DPS builds to AH, meditations, consecrations, spirit weapons…and they all bore me to tears.

I still like my ranger, despite what anet did to it. But I’m becoming disillusioned with the game entirely at this point.
