Was looking at a post in Profession Balance that was about prioritizing your own combo fields over allies’ fields. One of the main issues I saw was that Guardians’ auto attack on hammer creates a light field. compared to a fire field; which would you rather blast?

Then i thought what if Greatsword, hammer and mace, etc. created fire fields instead of light fields? O,O We have several traits that focus on burning so wouldn’t it make sense if we had better access to this condition? With the amount of finishers we have and light fields to convert to fire fields I could seriously see Pyro builds becoming a popular thing amongst the Guardian player base and condition builds would seriously become more than just “viable”. Of course retal would be seriously nerfed but… Wouldn’t you rather have that might for damage that you directly control?

Just think of how many fire fields and finishers you would have to go with all our fire based traits. Amazing isn’kitten

Perhaps this has already been discussed or thought of but I thought that maybe other Guardians would enjoy this idea.

If anyone is entertained by the idea perhaps you can share what you think of it? Do you foresee any pros or con’s to a change such as this? If so, what are they?

Guardians already have some fire fields but on concecrations, anything that is non light field is accepted, especially on weapons.

Personally I’d prefer light fields to grant something better than retaliation on blast/leap (protection? Vigor?).

I always thought that Area condi cleanse with a 240 or 360 radius would fit much better than 1-2? second of retaliation. But protection and Vigor would be awesome too.

Retaliation is actually a very good boon. It’s just that it’s nerfed in WvW and PvP so people don’t appreciate it.

I agree that it has its uses in WvW and PvP to “counter” AoE but it is VERY lackluster in PvE, monster hit slowly and the damage output is minimal.

I was thinking that too, but I was just following the trend that the effects from leaps/blasts are different to projectiles/whirls. :>

Fire fields would surely be great, but on the hammer chain symbol, they should simply remove the field label. There should be no field of whatever kind on an auto attack because of the massive potential to screw up.

Either

Fire fields – Light fields in combat do not do much on their own and blasting for AoE retal gives everybody 1 second of retal, which is hilariously little. Guardians are already a burning orientated class so seeing these become fire fields for might stacking would be amazing.

Light Fields – But make them do something other than what they do now. Condi cleanse can be nice, but retaliation blasting is useless and even leaps only grant 3 secs of retal. Unless you’re nuked in the seconds that follow, they’re completely worthless :I

Various – Hammer AA no field but just AoE dmg symbol, GS 4 fire field, mace 2 water field and longer cooldown, staff 3 light field.

Yeah, the light field on the hammer AA is more of a handicap for having perma protection than anything else.

I like the idea on GS 4 and mace 2 Aderion, you’d think being such a “support” class we’d have access to these types of things on our weapons skills.

If only we could manually turn off combo fields while still being able to use those skills. Similarly to how we can turn on/off auto-attack with ctrl-clicking the skill. I’m sure there are other classes such as the thief and mesmer who would like to disable their combo fields on useful skills as well (Black Powder and Feedback for example).

On the other hand it would also be nice if we had a trait that turns our light fields into fire fields. It would be a very welcoming add to our grandmaster Zeal/Honor traitline.

To Zeal? No, we need more condition damage traits there.

They can’t, the ele holds that title firmly. Even if they made the hammer auto a fire field, we’d still lack the sheer number of blast finishers to get to 20+ might quickly. One mighty blow in 7.5 seconds is nothing compared to what a S/F-LH ele can do.

I like them as they are. Might stacking with ‘symbols can heal’ won’t do the game any good.

It’s definitely strong. But you would have to invest deeply into Honor in order to get all the “writ traits” that buff symbols. You’ll lose a lot of DPS for that.

The light fields are good. Very useful on volkov in SE p3. I would like the option to choose priority order of fields though. But the devs stated the reason they wont add that feature is because the player base is too stupid to use it.

I think it’s more a problem of Fire fields have a really strong blast effect rather than light fields sucking!

Fire fields may be especially useful, but pretty much any of the blast combos is better than retaliation.
