People who tested a while ago (don’t know if it’s true) said it could provide decent condi DPS and perma quickness at the same time.

We need some blocking skills like engie and warrior shield skills plus some active healing and something.

Base guardian as a dps cant win vs nothing. DH improves healing dps and blocking ability I hope Firebrand will have better blocking and healing cause well, if you need to survive you need good defensive skills.

I am little disappointed, until we try it next week.

I don’t get the balance of a support focused specalisation with a melee weapon. The two seem at odds. Also concentrating on burning their enemy, with the amount on condi cleanse on offer, relying on one condition for damage seems pointless too.

And problem is that balthazar is fire based boss so like 90% of those enemies gonna be fire immune? So whats the point of fire condi spec if you cant do condi dmg?

We have excellent support in base guard or combined with DH.

You do realize that the only enemies that have ever been immune to burning is the vanilla destroyers right? And even then none of the destroyer bosses are immune to burning so idk why that’s the part you’re freaking out about.

Its not only burning…its whole concept of Firebrand pretty much sucks. Someone said long casting times also, that nice negative thing for wvw and pvp too…..

Oh, I hardly play guardian, I’m only in these forums trying to find info for a friend who likes cleric styled classes and burning stuff (might be coming back), just was pointing out that the new enemies and the ones that really matter (bosses) haven’t been immune to burning so that shouldn’t be a concern.

Can’t speak for raids or sPvP, but guardians are all over WvW, one of the most desirable classes to have in your squad. Depending on how this is handled, they could be even more desirable than they already are.

At least this isn’t a complaint thread about the name of the spec … still, I would caution restraint for … you know, playing it before making a hasty judgment.

Since when was “healing” outside the category of “support”?
Seem’s like you’re way too quick to judge.

I’d be a fan of firebrand if it was a ranged support spec with burning options, but melee support and burning were already huge on core guardian. Maybe it does strong burning and support at once instead of core where you had to pick either? I’m afraid this will become core guard mkII even after core guard got a ridiculous number of buffs the past few balance patches.

My prediction is this … if the virtues fundamentally change into ‘kits’, you might not get a virtue that gives you global condition access. Therefore, Axe will be a condition-based weapon, and give you the choice to pick the virtue you want.

It’s beyond me why anyone would possibly want more of them. let’s be honest here … we play a game where meta has meaning … there is almost no value in giving a class access to more than 1 or 2 damage builds … so what’s left? Wrong. In PvE our damage sucks, power is already bad and condi is a meme, a joke. In PvP both power and condi is pretty terrible for everything above plat 5.

That said, Anet will probably not fix the problem with the new elite that is there since HoT: Making us top (condi) dps. We probably will end up with a hybrid low dps low support role like hammer guard that is not useful anywhere bar low fractals and noob raid groups.

I think you miss the point; it’s not about if damage sucks or not, it’s about how many DPS builds you can pile onto a class in a game where you only need one or two DPS builds to perform. Conceptually, there is no reason for Anet to simply add more DPS builds to Guardian. Like them or not, they are there and if they aren’t good, adding more isn’t the answer.

I’m actually pretty stunned that you demand unique mechanics, cool new features from Guard after HoT. Let’s not make our expectations unrealistic from the start. The Guard elite will always be the lazy one that was rushed, if you want something cool, something fluid, diverse and unique, switch to Ele.

What we can hope for is top dps. And maybe even this is unrealistic looking at HoT.

I’m certain that even not having seen the spec, your hope for a TOP DPS build was not going to happen, for exactly the reason I already stated and for the reasons we have seen Anet state many times in the past over and over. If the intention was for Guardian to consistently play a top dps role in the game, it would have happened by now. That’s clearly not how Anet develops the classes in this game.

I have made no demands on unique mechanics and cool new features. In fact, I see Anet hitting a wall pretty soon; without a trinity, there isn’t actually much you can do with class roles, which is what elite specs are designed to deliver.

We had always a bad dev. DH was rushed and was crappy pre HoT so they buffed it but since then nerfed every patch. Now every new elite spec is dps oriented while we get support? Pretty much every elite spec will rekt us – maybe even new support necro…
We have good diverse support builds and we fart boons, what will this new elite give us more? We can give all buffs now, so whats something new and fresh in tomes??

This isn’t new … if your expectation is that a class isn’t good unless it’s the best at something, then you need to play a game where there is exactly one class for each thing to be good at. This isn’t GW2.

The fact is that if your interest is only playing the ‘best’, whatever you define that to be, then you aren’t playing right if you only use one class.

Should have been a tank spec or a full healing spec. Currently Guardian is far from being the best tank in the game nor the best healer. Guardian only shines as support class in WvW raids or as dps class in in low to mid PvP matches.

The fact is that you can only progress raid on classes that are top dps/heal/tank or at least second tier without major downsides.

No one wakes up and says to himself: “Man I’m kittened how low dps my Guard is, like I only do world events and it doesn’t matter but I’m still kittened.”

What instead is the case when you go to bed: “Man, I wanted to progress raid this evening and crush the new bosses, but there is just no point to take me over a ele/cranger/chrono/druid/cps. At least I won’t waste money on the next expansion.”

HoT was their first expansion and so I can forgive them their balance mistakes one time, after all WoW also had similar problems at the start. But there is no second chance. Fix it with PoF by making every single class or at least Guard viable (I honestly don’t care about the other classes) or I’m simply not buying and spreading bad mouth propaganda to make other people not buy it too.

Best at support? Which support are you talking about? Damage support? Druid has it. Healing support? Druid also has it. Also revenant and ele heal better. Quickness? Chrono has it. Only thing we have is buffs and revenant do that better than we do and even they are not in the meta.

You are mixing healing with support. Healing is healing, support is support.
Look at wvw and pvp, support guardian is always wanted. When a Druid you are instantly kicked out of raids in wvw and you should know why.
Our dps is not meta. And we have no healing spec.
Elite spec gives us another support spec saddly.

That’s right and that’s a strong argument for why raids shouldn’t exist in this game. No class change or elite spec can fix that …. not like that’s what an expansion is designed to do in the first place; if we paid $40 to get access to what essentially amounts to balance corrections, that would be stupid. Those corrections would be meaningless the second the game is changed again, an inevitable event. Chasing meta is not an option, ever, no matter what vehicle it comes in, for that very reason.

Meta? You know that meta is simply a term for bad balance, at least I hope you do. Meta is a term of moba’s where heroes/champions/classes are intentionally made worse or better than others to shake up the game by forcing you to switch heroes/champions/classes so you don’t become bored.

In MMOs metas don’t need to exist because you are not supposed to change your class outside of twinking. A meta in an MMO just means that the balance is terrible, that is all, and that it needs fixing.

I don’t care what it’s a term for … it’s a reality of this game. That reality creates a situation where choosing a class is based on theme; the performance is secondary. If you want performance, you need to play the ‘FOTM’ game and choose the class you want as the game evolves for optimal performance.

It’s interesting you think that they need to fix balancing … how many more years will this game need to exist before you realize Anet doesn’t regard balance the way you do? You are right, metas don’t need to exist, but they do and if you think about why that is, you might get some insight to why I’m correct.

We are best support but with lack of dps and heal. While other supports have better dps and heal thus we are not needed in raids. In next xpac we will have solid dps in DH solid support trough tomes and abysmal casting times of 2-4 sec and dead core guard which needs total remodel now. Every other elite spec get something new and guard is getting something that was already bad at the start. Maybe third expansion we get pets so spirit weapons can rest in peace.

Core guardian is lacking non-burning conditions, and long-ranged support. This elite spec appears to be melee burning, and possibly melee support. Hopefully it is actually ranged support, but the answer to better condi guard isn’t just stacking so much burning. Except for pve I guess.
