na you are just learning what Rangers have Learned to fight with , going Ranged on one Weapon set makes the Melee portion of the build weaker due to less Melee Options.
so it feels like less Melee Potential but in reality you’ve just done a trade off, thats the deals of going dragon hunter it Alters your playstyle.
HMMMMM… That’s a good analysis you have there. I’ll keep that in mind!
They need to make zeal on par with dragon hunter so a more melee dominate play style can happen!

I’ve noticed this too in both spvp, and wvw (zerg and roam). Generally I seem to camp longbow, and choose my secondary melee weapon based on what I feel I need (extra burst damage, cc, mobility, condi clear, team support). Well OP is right about one thing: melee does seem to be turning into a secondary function for us.
It’s difficult to approach balancing this though. One thing that’s been suggested is to add some damage-dampening for shield while channeling the bubble. Smaller additions/changes like this are about all that could be done for us without majorly changing the current balance.
Guardians don’t really have the skills/trait needed to go melee most of them time (unlike Engi’s and Ele’s) so Sw/Fc is the preferred melee set nowdays as it adds the much needed defense. The GS, on the other hand, is full offense so I’d advise sitting on it in anything larger than 2v2. You could probably use it to surprise burst low people with JI+GS3/trap then retreat with GS2 and F2.

Unless your running a menders build with extremely defensive traits melee is pretty much a quick death sentence due to the fact that guardians don’t scale as well as revs, eles & engineers when it comes to survivability from traits alone (guardians really need traits + the right gear if they wana survive unlike them)
You all are pointing out things we severely need… Maybe if an ANet mod ever reads this thread they’ll share these ideas with other members of ANet

To really fix the guardian they would need to
1: Redesign or fix nearly 50% of the traits
2: Fix or completely redesign several utility skill types (signets, spirit weapons, half the consecrations.)
3: Boost the shouts (play a druid with shouts, puts guardian shouts to shame)
4: Fix/redesign numerous skills on hammer, sword, mace, & staff.
5: Make serious tweaks to the core virtues.
6: Actually admit there is a problem.
I don’t see any of these happening sadly because
1: Several of the times I have seen the lead guardian dev Karl speak about guardians he was confusing guardian skills with warrior, rev & thief skills.
2: Anet is a small company compared to many other AAA companies, when it comes down to fixing these things or fixing the constant bugs/glitches ect and making new content they will always choose the later because they don’t have the manpower to do both and the later effects their bottom line allot more because guard players can either play what does work or reroll.

They migh had some other gimmick to cover it, i guess??
If guardian starts to have the capacity to go in melee besides the lame and boring JI trap spam thig, player will QQ because they cant range and aoe to win.
For guardian to work theres alot of stuff in this game that needs to change, if not will create even more unbalance between guard and other specs, because other specs will get eventually overbuffed again.
I am yet to see a good iteration process from Anet side, they reeally need to fix alot of stuff IMO..
