Q:

I hit 80 on my guardian and now have a full set of Knights and Berserkers, but nothing above exotic in any slot. Now that I have some laurels and am looking to start fracts, what should I focus on getting first? I would like to avoid using laurels on something that I may get in a few weeks of runs…

Is there a guide that someone can link for me on what to switch first, gear-wise, for optimal PVE guardians?

Thanks!

I’d go all berserkers first to ensure you get money for other sets because berserker helps you pve wise which means you get good money to spend for other experiments.

PTV armor from karma vendors, Berzerker everything else.

Going full zerker as a newbie guardian is NOT recommended because you will die a lot and also require a more fine tuned party make up for dungeons.

Most full zerker 10/30/30/0/0 advocates run most content in guild groups and TS constantly, stacks and optimize their parties and have never pugged a single dungeon in quite a few months now.

Do not listen them, dead = 0 DPS. You are better off being tanky with 50% DPS potential and 100% DPS uptime rather than with 100% DPS potential but dead 50% of the time.

Also remember that even being downed (not fully dead) jeoperdizes you entire party because they
1) Stop DPSing to rez you
2) Put themselves in danger and possibly wipe to rez you.

If you spent some time reading these forums you would learn that a lot of people are full of kitten. Most glass cannon builds are suboptimal for general pug/party play and only work when in highly specializing parties or are just posted as a means to show off. “oh look, I can survive as full GC guardian, im better than everyone”

don’t get rings from laurels. and the accessories you can get from doing gm per 2 weeks for 1 accessories. but if you thing 4 weeks+10g is too long to wait then buy it with laurels. rings and back piece can be obtain doing fracts. I suggest you do not jump levels in fract. if you are lvl 10 do a lvl 10 dont jump to 20s and such.

ps. the only way to obtain ascended amulet is through laurel so get that first. If you do some wvw, it takes less laurels to get an ascended piece.

I mean really I did a lvl 49 fract yesterday with a guard that have no idea what is wall of reflection or how and when to use it, result to a boot.

I hope you are joking…. I don’t know if you are baiting people into responding to a troll post. But just in case you are serious.

No half decent player runs a 10/30/30/0/0 build in a dungeon. That is a PvP/WvW meditation burst build. In dungeons that is utter crap, since it is not our highest dps spec, nor does it bring what we need in dungeons like master of consecrations.

What you described was a bad guardian build, only used by new players. Real top shelf guardians run a 10/25/x/5/10 build with the rest of the points up for personal choice. Generally 25 into virtues for the per boon damage bonus(and unscathed contender 20% more damage) and the last 5 either for superior aria or RHS. No kitten Sherlock, but to a new player, 10/30/30 is equally as glassy as anything non-AH out there.

My point is for him to actually do what he is most comfortable with instead of following the glass cannon band wagon

No kitten Sherlock,

Good, I’m glad you agree you are wrong. Thought you were going to defend that ridiculous post.

For a new guardian, i’ll recommend a 0/30/0/30/10 built instead of the 10/30/30/0/0 built.
Take:
1) radiance- blind exposure/powerful blades/Right hand strength
2) honor- Superior aria/Empowering might/Pure of voice
3) Virtue- Master of consecration
The extra hp and heal on dodge from honor should provide a decent buffer for a new player.

15/15/x/20/20 hammer is pretty darn easy to learn to learn on while bring decent dps and good utility to the team.

Run it with full zerker. If you are still uneasy with staying alive, use the knights armor with zerk trinkets. Fair warning tho, the knight’s might actually end up attracting more attention to yourself then you would otherwise get in full zerk.

Use that setup to start hitting dungeons / Fractals and work your dailies for laurels. Work guild missions as well, if you have access. That will help you build the wealth and currency to move to ascended.
