GS/1H sword builds for Guardians
This build works and you can use your knights gear. Feel free to swap in a shielf if you choose
head over to gw2guru for the best 1h and GS builds. If you want to dps and are able to dodge, zerker gear is the way to go in all cases. Untill you feel comfortable enough, knights is a good starter.
Well, I recently started using this:
It has high survivability and good damage. If you get used to it, you can solo stack 12-15 stacks of vulnerability on a target ( this requires starting with 1H sword and swapping to gs ).
You get pretty much a constant stream of healing from your virtue + regeneration ( hold the line + save yourselves ). Your dodges heal for 1k+ and activating your virtue of resolve heals for 2.2k-ish. And then you still have shelter.
The damage output is quite nice, with relatively high crits ( you know, for a guardian ) that can go higherif you learn to vuln stack ( blinding = 3 stacks in this build ).
Example: use sword 2 ( that’s 3 stacks ), focus 4 ( the beam will bounce on the target, you and back to target, adding 6 stacks, bringing you to 9 ), activate virtue of justice ( 12 stacks ), switch to GS, use skill 3 ( 15 stacks ) and do a whirling wrath.
Fun times \o/
Also, I have noticed something particularly fun with the GS. If you use leap ( #3 skill ) on a group, the blind will trigger on each mob, right? Right. That means 3 stacks of vulnerability on each mob, right? WRONG!! It means 3*<number of mobs near> stacks on each mob !! Apparently, the vulnerability triggers from blinds (at least from the leap) are AOE vuln stacks
More fun times \o/

If you want to focus on WvW use the healway build or a variant. 0/0/10/30/30
It’s seriously unkillable and you can still put people down. I take on 3v1’s regularly, and oftentimes end up stomping out all three unless they’re a thief/dd ele.
GS + Sword/Focus
Two gap closers + openers the only escape you’ll ever be doing (minus JI, but that’s got quite a cooldown in comparison)
I’m sure as hell in love with it.
