Lvl 80 Sylvari Guardian – Tzenjin [GF]
Lvl 80 Human Elementalist – Tzenkai [GF]
I’ll keep this short and sweet, since im usually longwinded…
Could we please take the projectiles Whirling Wrath casts out and just get rid of them? Transfer back the dps to the melee part?
Im tried of fighting enemies that have “reflect projectiles” only to see me damage myself for a move thats melee oriented.
No point to having projectiles on it, just keep the combo finisher. Not too mention that the non-combo finisher projectiles it casts out go in random direction and often dont hit anything… thats wasted dps right there. Makes no sense >.<
Its not like you can really kill yourself too it… but then again why would i want to use an ability that can hurt me like that. I’ve only ever seen it stack in total dmg to myself for a total of around 800-1,100 (depending on crits). Not the biggest deal, just kinda annoying for a melee move, you feel?
Anyone else understand me on this? Would love some feedback, opinions, or even a counter-argument.
Thanks guys.
im under the assumption that the projectiles add to the range of the move……….
well in reality it probably doesnt……….idk seems to miss a lot to me
but anyway id keep the projectiles.
Since its a projectile finisher, and projectile finisher, means more effects in either your fire field or light field.
So no to pure meelee
I mean it wouldnt make sense for it to be a finisher that shoots out flaming bolts or condition removing bolts if its a meelee move right.
Seems like its working as intended. OP adjustments makes it sound more Warrior styled.

They aren’t projectile finishers. Guardian gets zero projectile finishers even though they have fourteen skills that have some kind of projectile… grumble grumble…
Guardian’s projectiles are all magical. Considering that the projectile finisher says “Physical Projectile” that wouldn’t really work with magic shots.
As for removing the projectiles from Whirling Wrath… I gotta say no for that. While they may not be universally useful, the projectiles make the attack more fitting for the rest of the overall GS moveset and Guardian in general. As someone else said, a simple spin seems more Warrior than Guardian. The projectiles add a magical quality. And its not like Whirling Wrath is terrible in its current form or anything.
I just find it clunky. You are supposed to turn off melee-assist and go into the middle of mobs in order for all the hits to land?
They’re very handy since they work with your light combo fields to cast cleansing bolts which remove conditions (along with many other finishers)

It doesn’t say, “Physical Projectile”.

Elementalists have a magical one, so that technically blows that theory out of the water.

Those cleansing bolt projectiles come out of any whirl finisher regardless of whether or not the whirl move shoots out projectiles.
The only thing that Whirling Wrath’s projectiles do is miss or hit. I guess the best we can do is, rather than seeing them as “wasted damage”, think of them as “bonus damage”. That said, I don’t have a problem with greatsword, it’s still one of the Guardian’s best weapons. It’s the other weapons that worry me…

OP Here,
I completely understand the “magical effect” flair that comes with Whirling Wrath. As yes the GS is by far NOT a weak weapon. I love it.
Its just…. idk. For projectiles to be added onto a move that already uses a Whirl Finisher and casts Bolts… why the projectiles?
Also this doesnt not concern the “Combo Finisher Bolts” (i.e. cleansing bolt, fire bolt, confuse bolt, etc). Its about those blue sickle shaped projectiles. Idk about magical or physical when it comes down to it. But they get reflected back.
It just doesnt make sense to me to have projectiles that eat up ur dmg that doesnt hit. Our WW is already different from warriors. And for a move that practically calls for you to spoon the enemy to be able to hit for the true dmg… that doesnt even aim.
I mean if u look at Zealots Defense, that i understand. Its got blue magical projectiles but it is a Medium Range move. Even has a bonus “reflects projectiles” haha. But its just that this move makes sense. Nothing wasted, nothing over the top, everything it has is styled just to the way the attack performs.
Its like they designed Zealots Defense before making the animations. While its feels like the opposite for WW. They made the whirl with blue stuff and designed the move after the animations. Im not saying this actually happened, just a metaphor for to elaborate on how i look at it.
Just to state again. Guardian, by no means weak. GS is a good weapon. This is not QQ. I just think its more “Flair” then “Purpose” i guess.
Zealot’s Defense doesn’t reflect projectiles, it blocks them, yet they don’t even count as real blocks in regards to triggering traits/runes so wasted potential there. It’s almost as easy to miss with Zealot’s Defense as it is with Whirling Wrath as all the target has to do is move, while we’re locked in place, you still have to spoon them for it to do any real damage. Heck, if you’re just within the skill’s max range it can sometimes miss stationary targets. Even then, sword’s best damage skill only hits one target anyway, I’ve killed five foes with the greatsword at the same speed it takes sword to kill one.
Despite people liking the sword, I find it completely boring and ineffective, especially when the greatsword does a much better job at almost everything the sword tries to do. Which is really disappointing because, aesthetically, I would much prefer to use a sword!
In any case, I can’t see much else that can be done to ‘fix’ Whirling Wrath, as I said before, rather than see the projectiles as wasted damage, think of them as bonus damage! One interesting solution could be that Whirling Wrath’s projectiles pierce through foes. That would make each projectile pretty kitten important whilst still keeping the skill’s original aesthetic. Greatsword is still really strong though, not entirely sure it really needs anything.
I wish Zealot’s Defense’s projectiles pierced too…
Consider the following…
You are running with some mates and as the AoE Guardian you are at the front of the pack grabbing initial attention on multiple mobs, whirling through them those projectiles are great for hitting the initial on those that are trying to skirt you.
As has been picked up on before the profession doesn’t have much in the way of movement control, these bolts are one of the ways to apply a weak control to multiple mobs, then GS.#5 to regroup them, GS.#2 again and stragglers are collected again. I consider them a range increase on the whirl and as such feel they do quite well.
I don’t really understand the problem, if you are whirling you are attacking multiple opponents already – the fact they might be a step or three further away and you still hit them is a positive thing I would think.
