Q:

I have been trying to find a signet build for the guardian after the update, though can’t find any.

Could someone send me a link or show me how to find one?

Thank You!

A:

Shouts & meditations tends to be the best builds.

Signets & consecrations are used when needed, otherwise not at all.

Spirit weapons are crap…… The only one ever worth using is the shield for the projectile absorbing bubble.

….

….

I think my brain just burnt out there for a second… …. I swear I thought I read “Guardian Signet Build”….

No… No I did….

Dainank, why do you hurt me so…?

On a more serious note, I haven’t had any success with Signet Builds. If you do, I’d love to hear more about it!

while you can use signets as a guardian they just are not viable choices compared to other options

The reason for this is 3 fold

1: Two of the signets suck due to extremely long cast times, providing healing power (near useless) or having a passive effect which pulses every 10 seconds (u can be easily nuked in that time).

2: The trait for signets sucks. (it used to offer condi removal, now it offers light aura which is laughably easy to get from other sources and near useless.)

3: There is a severe lack of self sustain with signets.

Signets seem more like a supplemental thing to me, rather than something you focus your build around.

I am very new to the game! Thanks for telling me that the build isn’t a good idea. What should a guardian then be aimed at?

Honestly just check out metabattle.com. They’ve got the most common decent builds for every profession along with guides on how to get the most out of them.

NO digs on metabattle, or anyone else but very few people are knowledgeable about builds optimized for solo farm/missions, or what I call openworld content. The ‘PVE’ builds that you are going to find discussed anywhere are optimized for dungeons only because most people take Openworld content for granted since it’s ‘easy’.

Until proper theorycrafting is done for trashmob encounters and the builds consider proper opening and closing of trashmob fights, you won’t find optimal openworld builds.

Obviously the best open world pve build is carrion loot stick.

But more to the point, meta battle has a very specific angle they use for builds. Because “best” or “good” is usually ambiguous, those terms are subjective.

This is the basic idea. It’s not super necessary to complete content, but between a single Staff 1 and a single tick of Burning, you’ve caused enough damage to tap almost any mob. As soon as you light a mob on fire, go to another one if you’re farming, or just continue to add more Burning and kite around. The wave is large enough you can just circle kite and drop Symbols of Swiftness to continue adding stacks. For single targets just add a Scepter and Torch or something. With Dragonhunter, you can make it even better, adding damage modifiers, Cripple, and Vuln at will.

Open World pve isn’t really something you have to build for, and I could quote you saying the same, but I can’t really think of any single thing more efficient in all open world locations

I wouldn’t recommend that for solo farm and missions; these activities need killing, not tagging and kiting with AoE damage from staff is not as practical as people tend to think because geographic, mob spawn locations and mob agg reset. Perhaps as the secondary weapon, a staff could be useful because for this kind of content, a ranged option is a consideration if you stumble on an event where it’s needed. I personally prefer scepter for that option.

Kiting and condition damage is extremely useful in missions and solo farm. My preferred method of leveling is to run around places with mobs 9 levels above my own (and kill them for massive xp with full boosts). In those instances, mobs will have a type of scaling Weakness, tanking your physical damage but leaving conditions alone. A single regular mob 9 levels above is like fighting in-between a veteran and an elite.

I only mention this because it’s a fantastic method to kill things that are strong and dangerous. It allows you to deal consistent and safe damage without worrying too much. For things like large events (Temples, Silverwastes, certain world bosses) you have all that aoe to cause significant Burning. For other events (actual world bosses, champions, guild missions) just use a swap like Scepter and Torch like I mentioned. You still have a bit of aoe from Permeating Wrath, but Scepter+Torch will stack frequent burns in addition to its high physical damage for a ranged weapon. You’d only need to kite if you have aggro for summer reason. Otherwise, you’re as ignored in large events as anyone else normally is.

I’m not going to argue it’s the highest damaging, but I don’t see many alternatives that best it in efficiency of effort over results.

I agree it’s a neat trick for killing hard things or large groups to get fast leveling but once you reach 80, that’s not an optimal way to proceed into openworld if you want map completion. Most encounters will be single target trash and staff falls short there.

For open world I run the standard dungeon gs/mace build, drop the virtues line for honor, grab the fall or revive trait, honorable staff, and writ of persistence. Drop the mace and equip staff. Gives me good mobility and event tagging, and I still have strong dps with GS. I also sometimes get bored of GS and run sword torch, so I can use sword 2 to get around.
