Greatsword 3 skill
Well the projectiles are fired off in random directions, you’ll almost never hit someone with even 1 projectile far away unless you’re lucky.
^I think he’s right.
I think the idea behind skill 3 is this:
-If things are in range of your sword, they’ll always get hit. That’s why everything around you gets hit.
-If there’s something not behind an enemy that’s within 600 range and a projectile happens to go that way, it will be hit.
It’s not meant for 600 range, it just CAN hit at that range…though don’t quote me, I’m not sure. Although I may remember cases where I thought the projectiles hit dead-on within 600 range and it still said miss, but I may be mistaken.

If it does hit at 600 range it’s only doing a few hundred damage. If you’ve got your opponent at point blank range (via say, Binding Blade) you can be doing upwards of 4k damage. The 600 thing is mostly useless, the point of Whirling Wrath is at ground zero.
Hmmm… enough time for Ring of Warding (Hammer) → Blinding Blade (Greatsword) → Use Blinding Blade (Pull) → Whirling Wrath? Probably not enough time

I have tested this a lot and not even bolts have 600 range. Many times I have seen bolts simply pass through enemies and miss. It’s bugged.
it going off in random directions does sound like it could be right. but i am also thinking that i have never hit a target who isn’t within auto attack range with it.
Yeah I have also noticed that often the shots will miss even at people close to you. One thing I have to ask though is that does moving around affect the skill at all? It seems that when you move while the skill is in progress all of the shots seem to miss. Can anyone clarify?
Whirling Wrath has two damage components, the swings themselves and the projectiles (the random blue light flying out of the whirls). Since the projectiles fire randomly in 360 degree, it creates quite a noticeable damage swing between having a few or a lot hit the target.
To minimize the randomness, the best way I’ve found is to use Whirling Wrath while inside the target (stacking on top or as close as possible). This will give you a higher chance to have more projectiles hit the target. However, there’s two things to keep in mind:
The first is mob repositioning. The target will try to reposition if you’re too close to them. This is not big of a deal since you can always move accordingly to their position. If the mob targets a different player/NPC, it will not try to reposition against you.
The second problem is target collision. In PvE, you will have target collision against the mob you targeted. I’ve found two ways to work around this. It’s either you deactivate your target (once you cancel it, you can stack on the mob) or you can just move in a spiral toward the mob.
Thanks to the info by Reihert, you can turn target collision off by unchecking Melee Attack Assist box under General Option tab.The size of the mob is also a big factor. The bigger it is, the more projectiles it will hit. With this, I am now able to have a more consistent Whirling Wrath damage (and even extreme amount of damage like during Temple of Grenth event, I had a 19.7k crit). Give me some feedback if this is working for you or not (calculate how many hit per Whirling Wrath, not the overall damage).
A repost of my other thread.

No, but if you’ve got them in your Ring of Warding why would you need to land Binding Blade? Just hit Whirling Wrath and then Binding Blade after your ring ends.
When first we practice to deceive.
