Is what I run when I’m out solo in the world grinding or doing events. It’s what works best for me. One of the great things about this game is there are so many combinations for a weapon you can do which is nice.

Also check the wiki, the bottom has traits that relate directly to the GS.

I ended up going with 25/25/20 (zeal, radiance, honor). Seems to work well for me. Stacked Vitality and Toughness through gear. Running around WvW with 19k health right now, hit like a truck.

I switch between staff and hammer, usually have staff for running or assaulting castles as support and switch to hammer during face to face fighting to lock people in.

When (not if) I get to you with the GS pull (5) after leap (4), I switch to hammer, lock you (5), throw you (4), smash you (2), switch to GS and spin! After that if you don’t have friends you are pew pew with rocks at me, while I finish you.

exphryl, same build, except utilities. I use wall of deflection (LOVE this thing for WvW), Judge’s Intervention (to catch up to those pesky rangers/mesmers) and Signet of Wrath to lock them in so they don’t run.

Kaz, is your main source of precision your traits? (TBH I haven’t touched to much WvW so most of my gearing is PvE based, power/prec/magic find, but I can see why having low Vitality would be a death sentence in a lot of WvW Battles)

exphryl, Precision is from Radiance (25) and gear. I mainly stack anything with Vitality first, then Toughness+Precision/Condition Dmg. Still working on the gear though, running in yellows still.

I was gearing for PVE as well, but now I finished the story and 100% Orr, PVE seems a little boring. I go out with guildies and participate in dungeons and help lower levels.

Once I tried WvW, there is no going back, especially as a Guardian. My game style in WvW seems more like a berserker than a Paladin. When I see a group of reds, I leap in to it and raise hell. Judge’s Intervention, Ring of Warding, Blinding Blade (KD), Whirling Wrath and Symbol of Wrath. I can execute all that within 2-3 seconds, enemy has no clue what hit them.

But then I have to rely on my guildies to catch up to me and save me If they don’t I have to pay repair bill. LOL

It’s a much funner game style than a range character in my opinion. Theif would be on par with all the teleporting around crap.

So which are best stats for greatsword? I’m looking for exotic equip from CoF and idk if go for precision+crit damage, toughness+condition damage, or vitality+ condition damage.

Posvio, there is no best. If you pick one you will lose the other. Basically pick the top three that matter to you most.

Vitality = more health (helps with Condition Dmg)
Toughness = less physical direct dmg (burst and warriors)
Condition Damage = bleeds, burns, poisen, etc, Any damage over time skills
Critical Damage = chance to crit on a hit, higher better
Precision = how accurate your every hit is
Power = how hard you actually hit

So all of these are important. If you are building your guy to burn, then Condition Damage might be important, to increase how long and how much your enemy burns.

If you are looking for burst dmg, Precision, Crit and Power are main components here, but you become a Glass Canon (all power and no defense)

If you want to survive WvW onslaught, Toughness and Vitality are top stats here.

So everything is important.

Look through traits, pick what looks best for you and then add the rest via gear. Don’t just go for one single stat.

Also Healing Power important, it improves your heal skill. If you are caring a staff, definitely put +Healing Power on it, then switch to it to Heal.

Toughness = less physical direct dmg (burst and warriors)
Critical Damage = chance to crit on a hit, higher better
Precision = how accurate your every hit is

Toughness = less direct damage (doesn’t have to be physical, any non-condition dmg)
Critical Damage = the higher it is the higher your critical hits will be, has nothing to do with your critical chance
Precision = critical chance; accuracy doesn’t exist in GW2

Sorry, had to do it. Newcomers tend to pick up wrong info really fast

Just a correction

Precision = is the rate or % on how we deal Critical often
Critical Damage = % Bonus on Critical Damage when you landed a Crit.

The glass cannon builds usually are good in PvE but doesn’t bode well in WvW. You can try using it for taking camps with 2-3 people it’s doable.

As for WvW my suggestions would be take traits that keep you alive and removed conditions. Seems conditions are the king in WvW large fights.

10/25/30/0/5 Offensive/Meditation for me with full exotic berzerker gears. Have around 3.1k attack/52% crit/91% crit damage. You can say it’s pretty much glass cannon. As long as you don’t get hit back to back to back in explore mode dungeons, you can heal yourself easily with Monk’s Focus (unless you get hit by the obvious 5 mins charging one shot skill of doom). I’ve crit up to 10.2k whirl of wrath in explored mode Arah (without cheesing the 25 stacks vulnerabilities, was having about 5-7 stacks of might and 7-8 stacks vuln).

In WvW, it’s pretty fun to slap somebody with 7k crit whirls. Prebuff Shield of Wrath, pick an isolated vulnerable target (like just used dodge twice, light armor wearers, etc…), Judge’s Intervention on top and whirl of wrath to victory, then leap of faith away to safety and pop Retreat. Watch out for those guys that like to stand in the dead man land between the two sides and resurrect their teammates. They’re my favorite victims. The only downtime is that you have to wait til your cds are backed up. You can “try” to hit somebody with your scepter while waiting.

This is what I’m going to be running with as a “main alt” (my main is a ranged dps/kiting Charr Engineer).

He’s going to serve as a DPS/Tank, greatsword for AOE, sword and board for single-target damage. So far, I’m loving him. <3

I haven’t actually tried WvW yet since the computer I play on most of the time is janky and only barely running this game to begin with. Dealing with frame lag like that in any PvP setting is just not possible so that facet of things is a mystery to me for now. But in PvE? He’s a wrecking ball even now. |3
