Hello,

I’m fairly new to the game; I just hit 80 a few days ago. I have a few questions regarding appropriate builds/gear.

1.) Is there a Greatsword build that doesn’t require weapon swapping? I play pretty casually and I just like running around doing events/dungeons/etc. What is the best setup for talents/traits.

2.) Are condition builds with greatsword any good? I feel like guardian dps feels kinda low as is compared to other classes. Am i wanting to stack rampagers gear? (i think this is stuff with condition on it).

3.) What is ideal gear for a GS build that isn’t condition based, berserkers gear for crit? Will a crit based GS build out dps a Condition based one?

Use this which has traits, gear, food, etc included and is optimized for GS camping. Don’t bother with condition gear.

Swap master of consecrations to unscathed when not needed for extra dps.

For comparison to swapping weapons with similar setups:
This build dps 8965 (9383 with 25% unscathed up time)
GS + sword/focus 4/6/2/0/2 dps 10267 (10754 with 25% unscathed up time)

Is berserker gear the ideal gear set to use then if condition gear is crap?

Yes. Berserker gear, scholar runes, power infustions, truffle steaks, slaying potion/stones, and force + night/slaying/accuracy sigil would be best. Direct damage is better for pve over condi, especially for guardian.

Why don’t you want to weapon swap? I understand that you’re casual, but why would you want to intentionally kitten yourself?

Guys he just started out and fresh, having him trying to be full zerker or get BIS gear is a bit much. He probably hasn’t mastered how/when to use his virtues yet(No offense OP). In regards to power infusions don’t make them. They are a waste of money for a casual player, hell even for people like me that do fractals 50s daily they are a waste. I understand people will suggest a lot of metabattle.com things to you but don’t be fretting about the expensive stuff. Zerkers with scholars is the way to go for us, but seeing as you are new and casual player you probably barely have enough gold to make/ buy all of those right now. An alternative to scholars is Flame legions. Try those out for burn build. Its just an alternative to scholars till you can get the right gear. Good luck man and learn to love your weapon swap its very important. Also practive those dodges its very important as well, especially in COE dungeon.

He ask about berzerker and people answered it. If he can’t play zerker then yes he could ease his way into zerker over time, but he don’t need too. I got some new players in my guild that went for optimal build right away, it was hard at first but they became better player in no time, even faster than older players that were still relying on defensive build.

Thanks for all the feedback. Yea I’m not really going for bis gear or anything like that I just play for fun. As i learn stuff I will play better/etc. I know like 50% of my class at best lol. I’ve read the guardian guide for noobs but it seems outdated cause the traits system seems different?

Well if you’re not going to weapon swap much in a dungeon, at least run a staff and boost your party before a fight and use Hallowed ground to keep up your might.

That is for WvW only. It’s terrible in PvE.
