Greatsword or Hammer in Raids
After zeal and honor traits the hammer actually has pretty darn good DPS assuming the enemy stays inside your symbols.
So assuming the boss doesn’t constantly move out of your symbols then yes hammer could be nice.
The main issue I foresee is people complaining about the constant light field overriding fire & water fields.
Guard didn’t really feel useful compared to engi or something. That said I felt more useful on hammer than GS. If my dps is meh anyways I can at least bring some utility like short cd blast and some CC for the break bars and these red orb thingies. Also the protection can be somewhat useful since you kinda have to facetank a bit.
Hammer ends up doing more dps than gs if you go zeal/radiance/honor after about kitten and can keep the target from moving too much. Raid fights are longer than typical fights so it’s pretty good. It also has more cc. GS is better for shorter fights since hammer burst is not existent. Here are dps charts https://youtu.be/8cumRAX8krE
Guard was pretty underwhelming for the first wing of raids. The utility of the guardian didn’t really have much use so it would be better to just take a higher dps class. Hopefully they will be more useful in the other raid wings.

You can have a revenant equip a sword and press 1 with the prot facet active and do the same dps as a guardian with perfect rotations, feel my wrath, bane sig, 50% UC when applicable, and targets never moving out of a symbol. Guard is going to be so OP when expansion hits!!!

I am aware of that but I didn’t feel like rerolling and we made it in the end so whatever.
You’re right though, guard was really disapointing. Aegis got insta stripped by random stuff, cleanses, reflects and stability weren’t needed. Pretty stupid that facetanking and healing got rewarded more than active defenses on that boss.

The other professions’ elite specializations are over the top OP and will hopefully see a damage nerf.
I was mostly using hammer with Writ of Persistence traited. Hammer mainly because of the protection upkeep with some extra healing from the trait. Together with Mace + Shield (to knock back the seekers). I can understand that the light field can be annoying though. However, the 33% damage reduction is still very nice to have on top of a druid healing.
What annoyed me is that during the third phase, where the boss has a break bar, I couldn’t reflect the huge amount of flying orbs. I also tried stability to prevent getting teleported. Not sure if that worked either. Correct me if I am wrong though.
I found Shield of Courage and Wings of Resolve very useful though. Shield of Courage to protect the party if too many seekers are nearby or during certain attacks in the third phase. Wings of Resolve to jump towards the orange circles.
