Guild Wars 2

I am not sure if I want to get the greatsword or a hammer to fight with. I use a mace and shield for defensive and with allies but I’m not sure what weapon to play with when I’m soloing or I want good damage. I have used a hammer and I know all the skills but I haven’t used a greatsword yet though. I was playing on my main and I noticed a guardian with a greatsword playing and I thought that the skills were really good and the guardian was dealing out damage. I was wondering if I should switch to greatsword for soloing. Which one is better, greatsword or hammer?

Both are viable, hammer has a steeper learning curve imo.

Dmg is about equal or perhaps slightly better with hammer if you’re really good at landing the auto-attack chain combined with Mighty Blow.

Both synergize well with the light fields from symbols.

I would say it just comes down to personal preference. I personally use both depending on the situation.

If you’re talking about solo leveling, I think the Hammer is the better option. If you’re talking about solo PvE, then either will work fine. Hammer is less active in terms of 1-5 skill usage though, and it can get a little boring. Just play whatever is entertaining. There’s very little solo PvE content that is extremely difficult.

by itself hammer is better. but GS/s/f rotation is better than hammer for most scenarios

I like the GS (PvE) simply for binding blade. Reel those pesky ranged mobs in and hurt them all at once. Plus the added leap/mobility.
That said it has been a while for me with the hammer, but I used to use it a lot as well.
If you are weary about the cost of getting an exotic GS perhaps try a rare just to get the feel.

True that it’s a nuisance. Ironically Hammer #2 is a Blast finisher on a short cd that is an absolute BEAST for might stacking

Personally, I really dislike Guardian GS. It’s not fun to play at all. Hammer requires good timing and I find that much more enjoyable.

I feel that GS WW is too easy to be dodged in wvw/pvp and thats a kicker. Hammer’s MB is awesome and hammer 3, 4, and 5 offer a lot of control on the field. The thing that GS has is the mobility with GS 3

It depends, if you like apples then you like apples. If not, you may like oranges. You just gotta try both and it’s silly to ask people which one is better.
