Hey guardians!!

So, I’m level 80 and have gems to spend on gear…I was wondering; what is the definitive PVE build at hte moment.

I really want to “support / tank” utilizing condition removal and group healing through my current build of Mace/Shield and then Staff.

Everywhere I look though, people are saying the DPS meta is the way to go with zerker gear and GS/Staff.

Can anybody give me a definitive answer on what is the best build for a SUPPORT / TANK Guardian? Is this even viable? Should I just go DPS and use my virtues and few traits as condition removal adn support and focus entirely on DPS? Any help would be great here I can’t really find a definitive answer on the internet anywhere.

TL: DR — What’s the definitive build for a PvE guardian atm?

Basically this. Use Soldier gear as a substitute for Berserker as needed until you get comfortable with the class. Remember that people like you in dungeons because of what you bring to the party, though – that means great reflection (Wall of Reflection), great condition clearing (Purging Flames, Absolute Resolution) and access to Stability (Stand Your Ground). All of that, plus damage, makes you very valuable in dungeons.

There’s no such thing as a tank in this game. You can’t control agro. You can bring just as much support with DPS gear as you can with non-DPS gear.

All of that said though, there is room for variation in almost every scenario, even high end Fractals. There are promising things happening with Zealot’s gear, and Celestial gear is possibly going to get a slight buff in the next major balance patch. The main thing to remember is that the goal is to kill the dungeon boss, and as such you should always make sure that you’re contributing to your party’s damage. But a lot of parties don’t really care what you bring, and the ones that do will advertise as such. So you do have some wiggle room.

What foofad said. If you want to do a more supportive role use the hammer build that is shown in the link of foofad’s post. Hammer will give perma protection for your party, which is more efficient than the heals you get from the mace, and you dont need to use gear with healing power for that.

You can buy a full set of knights gear if you have enough gold, or mix soldier with berserker gear.

In gw2 pve you need to learn to do support with aegis, stability, purging flames for condition cleanse and fire field, might stacks and so on, you won’t be effective for your team if you just make a bunker healbot guardian with low dps, you need to bring all your utilities and also your dps.

And its good for you to learn how to play with a dps build right now while you are new to the game, this way you will practice more how to learn bosses’s tells, when to dodge, when to put aegis and so on, playing with a tanky build rewards too much for a lazy playstyle.
