Guardian DPS
I’ll bump Amins’ post here for the sake of curiosity. A majority of the builds here focus on survivability, a few posts tout our damage capability though and how amazing we are. I know Trungalung, Guanglai Kangyi, Brutaly, Silentstorm, as well as others have made posts on guardian burst/dps, so lets see what is out there
well, for most people “dps” specs are not appealing because they are “selfish” – you don’t support your party as much as you could be. other professions already have much higher damage by default, so most see little reason to build for that.
never the less, i’m curious to see if there are any dpsers among very high fractalers…

In WvW if you can break the enemy line and effectively kill large swaths of people quickly and effectively you are worth far more then the sheep that sit backline and do nothing but support IMO.
If you ask me, it doesn’t really matter what build you have in W3. Who’s zerg is the biggest is all the really matters now. So if you can bring in massive DPS, at the very least you can put a dent in their zerg. But I also play on a Tier2 server where we are severly outnumbered to the point of it not being fun anymore.
I have been running with a DPS hybrid build: 10/5/30/20/5 with Beserker armor (Beryl Orbs), Emerald Trinkets (Beserker Back), and a PTV GS (Strength rune). Consumables are the Maintenance Oil and Butternut Squash Curry Bowl.
Last night I switched out a couple of the trinkets to Beserker. Even though I was getting ran over, I put quite a bit of hurting on many of them before being staked. I use mostly Monks Focus. Still trying to figure out my skill set, but so far, it’s mostly been JI, Purging, and WoR, Renewed Focus.
I want to try it with a more equal basis sometime. Hopefully my server will get “fixed” sometime soon.
I find the survivability a bit annoying at times however. In fractals, I feel like I’m simply fighting to stay alive ALL the time, and I’m still in the single digit leveled fracs. I tried using a Knight’s set with Beryl orbs, but that didn’t really make a difference. Saving up now for Soldier’s set to see how that works.

I find that as much as people don’t like it, you aren’t ‘bursting’ if you don’t spend some effort on applied burns from VoJ. I think typically, a burst consists of a high crit build with 1H weapons with an air or fire sigil and a lot of finger crossing.
Funnily enough it is still very eady to go dps with a 0/0/30/30/0 build (10 to put where you like)
They key is your equipment. Mix and match your gear to get the right balance for you. I personaly run with berserker trinkets and jewels and balance this using 3 different sets of armour.
Even when running MF gear the dps is still very high. To increase dps switch to beserker and knights mix so that you are not too glassy. If your about to enter combat where you need more survival, switch to pow/tough/vit. Our dmg comes purely from weapons. Utilities can be used for situational services.

+1 The dps types are a dime a dozen. Usually it’s only a few who are actually pushing into the zerg.
It’s funny how many dps types will quickly switch to downed targets to just try and leech badges and then will run away at the drop of a hat -.-
Thank god for my gutsy mates fighting with me in the middle of an opposing zerg

Not the higest dps build as armour for the screen was part Pwr Prec critdam and part Pwr Tough Vit. But if you get Fiery wrath, Radiant power and elusive power. It can be a massive damage boaster (30%)
Here’s my setup, its still tanky but with also having 49% crit chance and 80% crit dmg. I’m working on rearanging my accessories and completing my ascended gear (rings and back) which will give me additional +34 pow, +36 tough, +6 vit, +2% crit chance and +2% crit dmg.

Been mulling it over for a few days and going over weapon damage and different utilities.
In my mind, burst damage is sudden hard damage. Best and easiest example to understand would be 100b warrior or a backstab thief.
We can mirror the 100b warrior in a sense of a lot of attacks adding up to a lot of damage via attacks like whirling wrath, smite, zealot’s defense, and cleansing flames.
Problem is they do not do an unmanageable amount of damage alone, and often times we are left with the cooldown used and nothing else but auto attack to go on.
So I thought about combining these burst skills and using them in a rotation.
WW > ZD > CF > WW > ZD > CF and so on.
going full crit/crit damage in spvp you can achieve about 5k unmitigated damage per a skill and a rotation of the three would provide somewhere around 10-15k damage.
The limiting factor on this is weapon swap cooldowns unfortunately.
I ran this set up with some success in spvp without being too squishy and still able to kill shatter mesmers and various thieves.
Powerful blades, retributive armor, signet of resolve, runes of divinity, and the 10 points in zeal can easily be changed. I was simply trying to see what kind of damage I could dish out.
I even neglected to select a sigil to put on the weapons.
I did notice that the best way to increase our burst was via crit and crit damage. power and crit did not provide as much damage increase.
Added a couple of pictures just for show and tell, only 3-4k crits but that is a constant rotation of the 3 skills doing 3-4k on players each time…and its sPvP so not as amazing as you could get in wvw =p
