Guardian GS or Warrior GS Help
If Greatsword is your preference I would roll a Warrior. The Guardian Greatsword combat is a bit stale at the moment. That isn’t to say it won’t change and I’m sure some people will disagree with me.
I think you would be hard-pressed to find a Warrior who had any real complaints about the Greatsword, considering the damage output they can rack up with it.
I’ve played Guardian since launch and I have been using the Greatsword since level 3 or so. Even though I thoroughly enjoyed it leveling, in its current state, the Greatsword is currently lacking.
I just started a fresh Guardian with the intent of using GS so I don’t have any of the bias of those who had been playing it before the changes, my 2c:
As some one with over 300 hours of GW2 game play it is very clear ANEt does nto intend for GS to be a stand alone weapon because the CD’s are far too high.
Staff or Scepter damage is so low its not even worth trying to kill anything with it -early on it seems ok but as you level they hit like wet noodel.
In short I have disappointed at the long CD’s because I end up using auto auto attack so much I stopped having fun.
So what do you recommend?
I have a level 80 Guardian and a level 80 Warrior. I use a GS on both and I still cannot decide on my main. I think the Guardian GS skills are fine and a bit more engaging than the warrior.

Care to elaborate and thank you! A person with both that would Help a lot
I have an 80 guardian and I love the greatsword, there wasnt really a nerf to it at all since my damage still came from the same source as before, the whirl. Having good weapon combos is where its at. Guardian GS abilities are easier to land because of being able to move with your whirl having a charge that blinds which is good for survivability and you can grip people in and then whirl right on top of them. I dont use the symbol THAT much unless i have like 4 people on me, it just isnt needed.
Warrior GS has a lot of burst but you are very squishy and can only do that burst if other people arent kiting mobs around or you dont have a root or knockdown up. I 2 shot a GS warrior with my rifle warrior, though he was able to kill me in a HB that was only when he had his BC available for the knockdown, all other times even without popping frenzy I won.
You do have quite a bit of mobility to get around with on the warrior and with your shield you can pull some pretty cool moves if you weapon swap well enough. Just try them both out, they both have their strengths and you have to choose which one you would be able to bring out better as a player.
Well for me, the biggest advantage in WvW with the GS warrior is travel. I use skills #3 and #5 to get around. HB is hard to land against players. In PVE the GS warrior is pretty fun. The longbow is fun on the warrior btw.
The guardian does not have to stand still for my GS main attack. I think that with my utility I can bring more to the group with a guardian and I can adapt to the situation.
Whats your build and playstyle in Gw2? Offensive mostly? Defensive?
I am still working on that. I do like to get into the mix a bit and I seem to survive a bit more with the guardian when I do so. I will be trying this a bit later today..

I read that one, but doesn’t use a staff?
You can use GS + staff with that build. It is what I plan to do since those are the two weapons of choice for me. Especially in WvW
I really enjoy playing WvW with my guardian…much more than my warr. The warr have more weapons options but the utilitity skills are so boring, in the other hand guardians have less weapons options but better/fun utility skills (Wall of refletion, bubbles for pushing/guarding, aoe blue fire explotions, etc.).
In WvW I mainly use scepter-shield+GS or scepter-shield+hammer and i think ppl understimate the scepter damage. I m using a meditation build: great mobility, increase the efective HP, clean conditions and break stuns.

What race do you guys choose for guardians? (Do you guys use racial elites or not?) I’ve been thinking about using a charr
Something to take into account when deciding.
Warriors have very, very, viable ranged dps. Its easy to switch out from a GS to a Rifle while using ur actual GS skills to help you escape (Warr GS skills tend to throw you out towards a target, use it in the opposite fasion) switch to rifle and do awesome dps from a ranged if u need to wait for a reset or have a CD come back.
As a Guardian, in the style i play, i have no ranged. At all. I use a staff, but even then its ranged effectiveness is at a halfway point in between melee and ranged. GS is my primary weapon and i love it, but that doesnt mean walls of ranged enemys aren’t going to be pissing you off leaving you wishing you had a bow/rifle.
I almost want to say Warriors can even escape out combat a lot better then Guardians. I feel sometimes that when ur limited to such in-your-face ranges you’ll tend to be focus-fired upon and will have trouble breaking all the stuns/immobilizings
