I realize I am posting this in the guardian section of the forums, but that is the direction I am currently leaning.

I am looking to roll an alt strictly for dungeon purposes. Of the three choices above, which makes the best overall class? (Yes, I know they all have there separate strengths etc.)

I’m looking for input regarding current state of the classes, and possible future state. Meaning, forecasting for potential nerfs/buffs.

I’d like to be viable in higher level fractals, and dungeons such as Arah.

My main is an 80 Necro, conditions build, if we are considering a complimentary alt.

guardian very viable, all builds.

mesmer, viable if built for dungeons

Guardian if you want to have the least amount of stress in fotm.

Mesmer if you like support and nice tricks with portal; people look at mesmers for portal skips and time warp mostly. You need to be good at jumping (for like CoE for example) just in case people look at you for a portal assist. Not sure what mesmers can do outside this but I hear the shatter build has decent dps output.

Eles are actually the most versatile and can handle almost anything but you really need to become master of all the elements to be a great ele. If you are not committed to learning all the different combinations and when to use what from all your elements in various situations, then don’t play ele because you will die really easily. But they are really useful for any end game dungeon.

While I do not have a Mesmer I can share my input with Guard vs Ele

Pros Guard
-Great survivability
-Great support
-Great DPS
-Lots of Boons
-Lots of options when it comes to situations
-You can build your class almost anyway you want
-Very efficient and a class that makes dungeons easier

Cons Guard
-Lack of ranged options
-Class can get boring at times
-Aggro machine

Pros Elementalist
-Amazing Support
-Great DPS
-Tons of versatility
-Lots of options when it comes to handling certain situations
-Very entertaining and fun class
-Efficient and can make dungeon runes easier
-Healing Power stacks amazingly well with them

Cons Elementalist
-Pigeon-hold to run 20/30 Water and 20/30 Arcane
-Arguably the class that takes the most skill
-Have to have P/V/T gear
-Terrible survivability if you don’t have P/V/T gear
-If you’re a bad Ele, you’re as useful as a Ranger’s Pet

Thanks for the input so far. My sneaking suspension was that an ele was a class that required skill, but when mastered was very versatile. I’m glad to hear the feedback on the guardian too, in regards to them being an Aggro machine. In a typical group setting, isn’t the Guardian normally looked upon to ‘tank,’ so I’m not so sure I have an issue with their aggro generation ability.

Elementalist is not viable on high level FOTM. It is a lot of fun to play, however, but if your intend is all dungeons — then stick to either Guardian or Mesmer.

Active: Mesmer, Warrior
Inactive: Guardian, Elementalist, Ranger, Thief (ex-main)
Leveling: Engineer, Necromancer
