Does anyone know a good PTV build? I don’t really care what weapons are used, but I want to be a little more tanky in the game but still do a significant amount of damage. I currently run a berserkers great sword/staff build, but it is getting old and i want a change of pace, without starting completely over. Can anyone help out a little, like a link, or possibly if they run the same build?
Mind sharing your current build, gear, and stats? If you need use http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/ to fill out this info. For most things a fairly tanky build can be made without sacrificing everything.
10/30/30 with Sword/Scepter. Utilities being Meditations. Bam.
You now have a lot of survival with a lot of damage. This is the best 1v1 build the Guardian has. The downsides are lack of AoE and support, but you’re maximizing single target damage and survival.
You really don’t need PVT. Just go Knight’s gear (Pow/Pre/Tuf) and use either 10/30/30 Meditations or 0/15/30/20/5 (or) 0/0/30/20/20 Altrustic Healing with Hammer/Greatsword/Staff.

If you don’t care much about crit and just want to soak up damage and do consistent high damage with no burst than just roll all PVT gear and this build.
Heal: Shelter
Utilities: SyS, HtL, SyG, Renewed Focus
Weapons are your choice but I’d recommend GS/Staff. For this build anyways.

I mostly agree with Alarox’s view. Crit chance makes a big difference when it comes to damage.

Forgive the confusion, but is that 0/10/30/30/0? 0/0/10/30/30? Any traits in particular?
Not asking for a extreme in depth explanation, but just some clarification.

For the sword/scepter Meditations build, he probably actually means 10/30/30/0/0. Traits are Fiery Wrath, Signet Mastery, Blind Exposure, Right-Hand Strength, Meditation Mastery, Monk’s Focus, and most likely Retributive Armor. Purity is also an option if you need more condition removal. Runes are a matter of preference – anything aggressive will work fine (Ruby Orbs, Divinity, etc.). Alternatively, you can give up some damage (100 Power and Fiery Wrath bonus) for more durability and support by going 0/30/30/5/5 (500 more HP, Vigor on crit, boons for the team on Virtue activation).
Just one thing to say though, having vigor on crit with a Knight’s set to proc it reliably far subdues what benefits a ptv set would have over survivability in dungeons.
Regardless of what vit you stack, you’d still go down like a sack in higher fractals if you attempt to faceroll encounters.
(6) Signet of Resolve
(7) Save Yourselves
(8) Bane Signet
(9) Signent of Judgement

Shard hi,
if you’re asking for a PVT build because you saved karma and it is easy for you to get it,
I would suggest get the PVT armor and magi/cavalier accessories.
knight or berserker weapons.
the armor will give you the power, the magi will give you precision, cavalier will give toughness and crit damage.
go for the standard f1 spam 0/15/30/20/5 build with AH and retributive armor.
you will be able to tank and do medium damage with high crit spikes.

I would recommend full knights gear with full soldier’s jewelry. (Ascended)
The reason is currently there are no ascended stats on ascended jewelry, so if you do it mixed when you upgrade to ascended you will have to do pvt which means less knights stats. This will lead you to have lower toughness and nearly no crit chance since you will end up with essentially full PVT build.
IMO it’s better to have a mix of knights and soldiers since you do still need crit chance for things like empowering might and knights offer higher toughness.

Update. This is no longer true. There are now ascended knights jewelry. Depending on what type of stats future ascended armor will have it will be a safe bet to have a mix of soldiers and knights.
x/x/30/30/x. shocking right?
