Guardian Pow/vit/toughness gear
I’d suggest 0/15/30/20/5. Virtues that throw boons are very helpful with AH, worth the loss of crit IMO. I’d choose 6x Lyssa for the elite cuz you’ll pop Renewed Focus a lot with 5 in Virtues.
I started with full PVT gear but that with AH/Hammer is kinda overkill. I had few challenges if my group was competent. I’ve moved to a mix of Zerker/PVT and I like it much better, especially with Hammer’s Protection and longer Symbol duration. I’ve dropped to 8x zerker and 4x PVT with a 10/30/30/0/0 build and it’s still pretty tanky with Hammer. Currently running Ruby Orbs and 2x Superior Rune of the Earth for Protection Duration.
PVT+Hammer gives you crazy staying power but your damage output is terribly low. If you want to do some damage you’ll need to kick up that crit. gw2buildcraft.com has a nice calculator for showing Effective Power. This is only accurate per weapon so don’t compare different weapons or classes.
This is mostly from a PvE prospective.

What do you mean you dropped 8x zerker and 4x p/v/t? I was thinking p/v/t gear with the lyssa runes then get a berserker amulet with 2 berserker rings or something.
I started with full PVT gear, then I ‘dropped down’ to 5x pcs of zerker armor and 3x zerker trinkets, the balance of gear being PVT. This is close to my current setup and its still a work in progress. I will switch in and retrait for Mace or Hammer depending on the environment. Pretty low on support but I run with a group that doesn’t need a lot of support
I just know that I thought PVT was what I wanted and spent a good amount of cash and time getting it, only to discover it was overkill for me. Now I’ve regeared and I like where I’m at. My survivability has diminished some but is still manageable but my dps has over doubled from my full PVT days. I’d suggest finding your own ‘zerker limit’, start a little heavy on PVT and switch out when you feel comfortable. If you wanna stand on the front lines of a zerg n just not die go PVT all the way. I personally like to play it more aggressively.
Again this is mostly PvE geared, I’ve had some real fun in WvW with it too.

Soldier armor, Zerk everything else. Works wonders.
Zerker is for warriors. If you don’t want to be called warrior wannabe, get soldier’s, knight’s and/or cleric’s.

My take on it is that if you can survive and support your team you should push as much damage as you can. Any bit of extra unneeded toughness and hp is wasted potential or a safety blanket. But if you want to be carried I guess that’s your call.

Being carried? It’s usually me who’s carrying dead weight (glass cannons). Dead people don’t deal damage. Besides, you can never have too much support.

There is no such thing as “for Warriors” or “for Guardians”, min/maxing makes use of all possibilities to achieve optimal results.
Once you get enough health/armor there is no reason to stack more armor (especially due to diminishing returns on armor-stacking) or health.
It’s actually way more efficient to combine both, given the way stats are diminished in GW2.
Stats are diminished? Since when? Only toughness gives less additional protection the more you put into. Every other stat has linear gains.
I’ve seen a lot of bad warrior wannabes guardians with zerkers. They have played terribly and should have sticked to more tanky or support oriented builds instead of trying to do 1/10 dps of warrior.
will this build work for a all around build or should i add more toughness and vit either through trinkets or weapons? http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/guardian/?3.4|2.1g.h4|6.1g.h15|1c.7i.1c.7i.1c.7i.1c.7i.1c.7i.1c.7i|1g.61.1c.61.1c.9c.1g.61.1c.64.1i.61|0.f2.u58b.k39.5|0.0|v.z.16.18.1i|e
ionic, that’s a solid build. Gear looks good. A couple slight changes could be made to increase your protection up time and damage output, what I’d suggest for PvE. You’ll have a lot of healing with this and Staff 4 n Virtues for emergencies. Wall of Reflection and summoned shield are amazing vs projectiles. Weapon Sigils, flat 5% is tough to beat. Don’t forget consumables, they can add a lot. If you don’t want to run WoP you can use Boon Duration food. Key here is to adjust your traits, weapons and skills to the task. You’ll want different setups for PvP, WvW and PvE but this build has good versatility.
GL out there,
