Q:
Guardian Speed
A:
Guardian has a few mobility options that are good for moving us quickly around a battlefield.
Weaponskills – Flashing Blade, Leap of Faith, Symbol of Swiftness.
Utility skills – Judge’s Intervention, Save Yourselves, Retreat, Merciful Intervention.
All of those can move you around quickly, and all of them can have their CDs reduced.
Unfortunately, we don’t get the passive consistent run buffs that classes like, say, the ranger do. So the abilities listed above are more helpful for moving around in limited spaces such as sPvP battlegrounds. For something like moving quickly across a large WvW map, they’re not so great.
It’s called carry a staff. 8s swiftness on a 15s cooldown (untraited)
Retreat, Save Yourselves and Symbol of Swiftness are out only options sadly.
Actually, guardians are good at speeding themselves and others. As Shimond mentioned, the staff power 3 creates an area that gives the swiftness boost to anyone that runs over. Also, the “retreat” shout will give swiftness and Aegis to everyone around you. That can be improved with traits to lower cooldown, and increase duration. Mine lasts 22+ seconds with a 48s cooldown, and I’m only lvl 30 :S
I probably came off a bit flippant but it’s true. I feel the staff is plenty for moving around the world. Yea it takes you actively using it instead of some passive run speed buff like some other classes get, but it’s actually more speed than any of them when it’s up. You can also buff npcs this way (great for escort quests) along with other players.
Hmpf. Sucks that we don’t get any passives that help boost the running speed. I was hoping there was something I missed, which made ‘em just as viable in WvW as for instance the speed of a Ranger, an Ele or a Thief – Since I can’t seem to outrun any of these classes.
Yeah…Guardians are for tight spaces and controlled areas. Hit a wide open space and you are t-rex meat.
haha i am usually a player that likes to emphasize speed and str (in this context i mean "power "or DPS if you will). i chose the Guardian because i fell in love from beginning. and Norn cause i love wolves and i thought = speed no? lol shoulda done more research. so even though we ARE lacking in speed. i don’t mind and it doesn’t affect TOO much in battle.
it’s going from place to place where i find issues with lol, especially when running in a group with a thief. : PPP use two utilities and then a staff hahaha to have it “constantly” up in swift mode. i don’t mind TOO much since i find myself switching skills and wep sets all the time while i fight. although it makes it hard to have a solid build (using traits) but always have to switch around.

Lol at people saying “these 3/4 skills are our only options unfortunately”.
I run around WvW about 2/3 in swiftness. What more do you expect?? Not everyone should have perma swiftness.
Most guardians seem to carry a staff in their inventory to compensate, and switch before a fight. Works pretty well, unless you get ambushed/attacked first.

Leap of faith can be your doom if not properly used as it jumps to the nearest targeted player or mob, but if you are sure you don’t have a selected target is akittenfine skill to get away from a dire situation
