Who said this? Torch is used for offense, focus is for support and shield is defensive.
Who said this? Even untraited, torch’s Cleansing Flame is one of the fastest area cure conditions which is perfect for support. Shield of Wrath can be used for burst when detonated. Focus could be defensive, a blind + 3 blocks means 4 guaranteed avoided hits, while a shield doesn’t really block anything except projectiles, and even then it isn’t defined as a block and will not synergize with traits.
In the end, a weapon will be it’s purpose if you trait and equipt for it correctly.
i confirm:
1) shield of wrath -> i get easily 5k aoe damage without might stacks
2) cleansing flame -> good aoe removal and aroud 8k aoe damage (100% critted, it’s more easy than you think
)
3)shield is useless at moment unless if you have a full protection build…
ps: i’m not running a full zerker build.
playing devil’s advocate. shield CAN be used for “offense” to a certain extent. jsut a few examples:
- knocking 5 people off a cliff in WvW. not many weapons can AoE insta-kill
though of course, you have to be in the right place at the right time.
- i’ve used it to chase someone down once – bubble knockdown, then my allies who were slightly behind now and myself got the jump on them
- completely deny a thief who just entered shadow refuge so you can lock ’em down, and take ’em down
- i’ve downed a fleeing foe once as well with shield 4 lol
again, anecdotal, and it’s probs more suited for “defense” / protection based / support, but if you play it offensively ; ))
