This may be a strange question seeming as Guardian and Mesmer are very different but what one is better?

I know “better” can be a hard word to define in terms of different classes. So what i mean is what is more effective in Dungeons, what one is more successful in PvE and PvP/WvW, what one is wanted more in groups/parties. I know that both of them can last a long time in a PvP battle if played right but what one can dash out DPS better.

As a guardian, it troubles me to inform you that mesmers are more seeked after in dungeons (at least in COF). They are pretty equal in usefulness in WvW but in general guardians might be a bit more useful in PVE because of their support abilities and high sustained damage.

In terms of PVP, mesmer might take the cake but it depends completely on their builds and skills. Mesmer also has higher burst damage but guardian can sustain high damage longer and thus deal more damage against bosses.

In PvE it doesn’t honestly matter, but I think Guardian would be better if you want to live longer while Mesmer is the one with higher damage. So just pick between not worrying about being killed or having high dps for PvE.

In PvP the Guardian is used in every single tPvP game. They are the backbone of every team. They are the bunker that just sit on a point and doesn’t let anyone else cap it. However Mesmers are used for their utility in tPvP. You could play a Mesmer selfishly but it will be harder to find a team for tPvP if you do. All in all, at the end of the day I believe Mesmers would win in a fight if built right to counter the Guardian. A skilled Mesmer has nothing to worry about from a decent/skilled Guardian.

Pretty equal actually, although a skilled mesmer has a few things to worry about like how long the fight would last as the longer the fight goes on the more likely the guardian will win. You need to find a way to kill guardians quickly as they have much more sustained damage and can outlast almost anyone. That, coupled with the fact that it’s easy to tell which mesmer is the real one and that guardians can have stability up means you’ll have to be very aggressive against a a guardian to win. Even so, I believe they’d be about equal to each other. Very different classes and playstyle between the two.

CoF and CoE are the only times I’m asked to bring my memser. For everything else I bring the guardian.

I can out dps my mesmer in PvE and still bring much more support to my team.

For PvP, you can play any class you want unless you plan on being an organized tpvp team. Generally if you are guardian you are going to spec for mid bunker. Mid bunkers are always sought after. The mesmer is also sought after; but can be replaceable with other classes.

For WWW, both are very useful.

The guardian fills the frontline for an organized zerg I believe better then any profession. They are also great for small man teams.

Mesmer in organized zergs are useful for AoE confusion bombing, AoE shatters, or dazing. They can also be built to be mobile fighters for tasks like trolling zergs, sniping yaks, and contesting keeps.

Both are as useful as each other – but for different reasons
So Make Both and have twice as much fun)
