Guardian Weapon Combos For the Skilled Player
Mace / Focus
self combo area retaliation, 4 blocks across 2 skills that buff AoE, Area heal auto attack and multi-target blind and condition removal.
I tend to use Scepter / Sheild in the second set when running this for more damage.
ex. of bad weapon combos: 1h Sword/Torch
Why is it bad? I find Torch to be a natural complement to Sword, with close-ranged burning AOE and a decent single-target burst ability.
I don’t understand why Mace/Torch would be such a bad option. It’s not the greatest, but for farming content, it’s pretty reasonable (and I love that you can use the Mace’s block with the number 4 skill on the Torch).
My favorite load-out is Sword/Shield and Hammer. I like using knockbacks (both on the Shield and the Hammer) and than flashing to the person I just knocked back.
Hammer + Scepter/Shield is great for PvP… this is my max CC set up… 2 roots 2 knockbacks, RoW, tons of protection, etc.
Hammer + GS – good mix of CC, burst dmg, and leaps.

Really depends on what you do.
Ganking: GS, Hammer – every 5 sec you leap or lockdown your target for 2-3 secs
Offensive support: Staff, Scepter/Torch – might, hinder, and assist spike
WvW zerg ball: Staff, GS – retaliation, might, wards, heals
General healing: Staff, Mace/Shield – straight forward
Tanky DPS (PvE): Mace/Focus, staff – good all around

I’m pure support, and I run with Mace/Shield + Staff.
Mace’s symbol is just amazing, AoE regen on a short CD? Yes please. The Protector’s Strike does some pretty good AoE damage, and protection is one of the best buffs you can get. I prefer shield over focus, because I get healed for every buff, so the shield 4 ability is awesome, since it gives prot and heals me. Shield of Absorption is just awesome, and you can detonate it for heals!
I don’t know why you think mace/torch is a bad combo, i run GS/Mace/Torch for soloing in Cursed.

Ya, I have same doubt.
sword+torch is very effective strong offensive combo (maybe the the strongest burst combo for single target as guardian).
Better immobilize opponent 1st, then sword2,3 and pop torch 4 while casting ZD (it won’t interrupt ZD but add another lv4 burn), after ZD ends torch 4 to throw fireball that’s another ZD damage for 1200 range.

Sword+torch: Teleport in (Blind), Zealot’s Defense, VoJ while using Zealot’s for the burn and might if you’re built for it. If you need to be more mobile use Cleansing Flame instead of Zealot’s Blade. Use Zealot’s Flame before ZD/ZB finishes so that you can hurl a fire ball at the enemy for more damage. Then if need be switch to hammer to immobilize, Ring of Warding, Mighty Blow, and then Banish. At that point your weapon swap should be up again.

Saw an interesting WvW vid with a glass-cannon Guardian using Hammer+sword/focus to bomb enemy zergs. Seemed really effective. Start with Shield of Wrath and wait until it was about to explode>Flashing Blade >Hammer>MB.
Both the MB and SoW would pop for 6-8k damage for a nice 12-16k burst and he could easily AOE down any one still standing.
