Guild Wars 2

Hey guys, i’ve been playing this build for a while and have been really enjoying it. It’s great for dueling and just generally roaming in WvW.

Weapons Greatsword + Sword/Torch

Obviously the great sword because it is a great weapon for most hard hitting guardian builds. The one handed sword is a great addition as well as it has a great gap closer and traiting to give it 10% more damage makes this a really hard hitter. I’ve seen the torch getting a lot of stick on the forums as being useless, but i find it a really a great weapon for guardian “zealots fire” is a great finishing move with a 900 range, which often crits for 4-7k and also burns all nearby enemies, and the cleansing flame is also great as it also hits hard and is a great way to finish of stealthed enemies (great for shadow refuge) and it cures conditions on allies. Focus also works with this build it’s down to personal preference but I prefer torch.

Gear and gems ;

Sorry it’s not in the build link but it’s pretty simple.

I’m using knight’s gear with beryl jewels so i can get as much survivability from gear as possible. I’m using berserker’s weapons to get some extra crit damage and precision (i’m running on about 90% crit damage and it really shows).

I’m using beryl jewellery, with beryl gems. And sigil of flame on my swords and sigil of accuracy on my torch.

Utilities wise im using ;

Judges intervention : Breaks stun and is a GREAT gap closer (can be paired with flashing blade) + heals with traits

Smite Condition : Condition removal, extra damage and a heal with traits

Save Yourselves : Another Stun breaker, and give’s loads of boons with is always good. Also if you are fighting in a zerg or with a team mate use this followed by smite condition to help out.

Renewed Focus : Always the only option for me, gives invulnerability for 3 seconds and you instantly renews all virtues which are important in this build as they also give boons

Signet of resolve (heal) : The biggest heal and more condition removal (personal preference)

Really enjoy this build and highly recommend it as it’s something fun to play and also really effective =]

I run GS – mace/focus and love the survivability.
Do you feel you are more vulnerable without fx focus?

So having 3 instant cast blocks, is not something you count as being good? Hmm, riiight.

IMO no guardian should die to straight up damage anyway, and that would really only be useful in something like a 1v1. not to mention its on a long cd..

Not to mention an incredibly powerful burst damage attack. That hits for 2-3 times harder than the torch’s 4th skill.

i’ve been recently intrigued by the torch again (haven’t touched it since lvl 60 early on!) so i’ll give it a shot too. quite similar to my “DPS” / Roaming build as well. though i have the lone 10 pts up in Zeal for Fiery Wrath. i’d assume the way you run it gives you even more survivability.

at first with all that valkyrie / beryl gear, i thought your crit chance wouldn’t be as high. but i assume you’re running around 46% crit chance on the GS and 61% with sword/torch (with oil). which is really nice for that high crit dmg. though armor is a bit low for my personal taste. ; )) have yet to see the vid though! so looking forward to that.

ah, Blazin – sorry! i should clarify. i wasn’t linking my build, but rather jsut the site to use for WvW/PvE builds. lol i’ll edit my post! XPPPP

Aaaaha good to know, i love that site because of the same reasons. I probably spend more hours looking for possible breaktroughs on that site than actually playing the game :P

I’ve done a lot of roaming with a combination of all the 1H+Off Hands, and in general, I feel like Focus > Torch. Torch isn’t bad, but the damage from Zealots Fire and Cleansing Flame is decent at best. Meanwhile, Ray of Judgement blinds an enemy, gives regen, cures a condition, and does a surprisingly decent chunk of damage. Of course, Shield of Wrath is pretty much forcing your enemies to either attack you quickly, or take a good sized hit.

As far as Sword vs Mace, that really is preference. Zealot’s defense doesn’t feel quite as powerful as it looks. I always end up thinking I might as well have just done my 1 Chain. It’s “useful” for attacking ranged, and basically, that’s why I think the sword is for (dealing with ranged), but then we have the Mace that blocks, heals, and does more damage than people expect. No teleport, but you get a block that also does a bunch of damage if broken.

I do like your setup, though. Only thing I ended up switching was torch for Focus, but both are great.
