I’ll keep this short and to the point

Aegis ruins a lot of shield skins.

I feel as if the aegis effect should only appear in combat, or at the very least don’t make it appear when you unsheathe your weapon via keybind

This isn’t just me whining because it ruins my legendary (because believe me, I knew what I was getting into), but because I’ve noticed TONS of other skins that are laughable with the big blue blob ruining their aesthetic. Two examples off the top of my head would be the Halloween shields

On the other hand, it does look pretty cool on quite a couple of other shields. At least, I think it does, but I like simple, straightforward shields.

Agreed, if you have a shield out is should apply a subtle boarder glow effect. Something more in keeping..

But i still like what i see…and gz on your legendary shield

Its bothering me more and more and I was very much looking forward to getting this shield.

I also like having aegis up when I don’t have a shield, like when I have a greatsword. I see where you’re coming from with it covering shields though.

It would be nice if it would instead “enhance” the shield somehow instead of covering it or only show up in combat.

Iunno, that looks pretty cool to me. guess its just taste? But yea with the legendary the blue aegis on top seems awesome. Grats about the shield and sorry you dont like it..?

i wish there was a toggle for applied effects like the helmet and shoulders, but client-side only instead of server-side

I think it’s awesome on my hammer, staff and greatsword.
But yeah, it seems to ruin some offhands.

You can’t really allow the effect to be turned off as enemies often rely on the the visual cue so they can avoid wasting their high damage skills on you ( which is a fair mechanic ).

I think it would be nice if they changed the effect when the shield is equipped so it emanates around the shield edge. But I’m fairly certain this would require tweaking every single shield model to accommodate the effect – Anet has (hopefully) bigger fish to fry.

I’ve always loved the aegis effect and think of it as a sort of guardian trademark. But that’s just me.

Right sorry – although I think if have something like the the Flameseeker Prophecies, you’d want to fix it so that everyone can see it in all it’s glory too – so I’m not sure if a client-only option would really cut it.

Aegis RUINS this shield. Its legendary and we want to see the shield not the aegis.

I think aegis should be invisible on shields, it ruins my seraph shield

The look of the shield is ruined either way, cause like most of the items in GW2, everything clips horribly with each other.

In all fairness, they could just look at your buff bar, which is how they know you have fury, retal, might, stability, etc. other boons which do not have obvious visual cues.

And also OP did mention that it should show up just in COMBAT.

Which I totally agree with.

That would definitely be reasonable, although I would keep the audible cue – perhaps with a short lived aegis effect when it’s restored off CD even out of combat

It also completely ruins the Braham shield which you buy as a skin then you wield it to see the aegis effect completely off centre and spoiling the glowing wolf eye effect the shield has which makes an item you buy for cosmetic purposes look cosmetically bad.

When Aegis is first refreshed I think it would be a nicer particle effect to have small little shield similar to aegis rotating around the guardian.

You can do a bubble like effect like the good ol days of DAoC with the Bladeturn spell then disappear when it applies. I am sure they can find something else to use the current Aegis design.
