I know I have a thread about the Guardian and Twilight but I was also wondering what people thought about the Guardian and This Legendary as well.
Opinions wanted.

Well I had it on my Guard, but I moved it to my Warrior. Warrior shield skills are much more useful, and there’s no annoying Aegis covering it.

Hmm Aegis could be annoying forgot about that. But I love the Mace Shield combo on my guardian.

I disagree.

The shield is great for teamplay situations, especially in PvE and PvP. WvW can be discussed.

The Guardian shield is more for to help your allies with protection applying and knockback with a small heal, while Warrior shield is more selfish defense.

I got The Flameseeker Prophecies yesterday. I knew from the beginning that aegis would destroy some of it looks because of the clipping issues.

It doesn’t look too bad though, but I would be happy if they changed the aegis appearance into something else.

Sorry, but except very few exceptions, shield is just junk in PvE. Focus is better in almost every single case.

In terms of looks, I love this shield on a guardian. It just suits them so well. In fact, despite how much I hate using a shield on my guardian, this is the first legendary I’m going for with him. I’ll just sit here and hope that Anet makes the shield better as a weapon.

It would be nice if we could get a buff for it and they Change Aegis to another animation. Perhaps make it an aura around the shield instead? Or on the player themselves?

I was thinking that, since it is a legendary, change the book color to something else while aegis is active. This would apply to all professions as well.

Don’t waste your money unless you like standing in LA and doing nothing.

This is the problem, Arenanet seem to think guardians are completed. There’s no point waiting for them to fix things.

The Shield isn’t a trash or garbage off-hand.

People either

• Don’t know when to use it
• Don’t know how to use it properly

It takes positioning to use #4 effectively. You want to put your self in a direction that will catch as many enemies and allies in a cone effect. There’s no excuse to not hit more than one ally / enemy (unless there’s only one).

1. has lots of uses in just one skill. A lot is thrown into it that’s pretty amazing. Knock-back, project absorption, combo field light, and a heal. The more I understand this skill the more uses I can use it to its best.

For the OP, if you have the opportunity to unlock the Zenith Ward skin, it meshes incredibly well with the Aegis effect.

Light combo fields are arguably the worst on the game, in a pve point of view, its quite rare when you want mobs more spread out. If I do dare use my off hand ornament(shield) I tellem my sigil stacks are on there!

You should look deeper than ‘mobs more spread out’. Otherwise you’re missing the point.

Focus is far better anyway. More damage when you make #5 explode, better survivability since it works with melee attacks, no stupid knockback, no useless light field and still some nice utility on #4. Projectile defense is usually done by WoR/SotA. The only place in PvE where I sometimes like the shield is in Lupi’s snot rain – but only if the rest of the group is rather incompetent.

In PvP and WvW, shield can change the tide of a battle.

In PvE, it is subpar to focus.

I would love this skin on my Guardian from a GW1 lore nostalgia perspective. As it is, I hardly ever use shield on my guardian anymore, so it would be wasted.

The problem of the shield is its insane cooldowns. They should decrease the cooldowns by 5 on both skills or put the shield trait to adept line.

Thats part of the issue, the main issue is that shield skills are very situational. And aren’t useful outside of spvp. If you look at warrior’s shield skills they are useful in all aspects of the game.

Shield skills need to be redesigned to have a universal appeal. I doubt anet will do it, but you’ll never know.

Shield can be good in pvp, it’s quite amusing in Skyhammer. However it’s inferior to focus in pretty much every way in pve.

I made the legendary because it’s pretty. I soon realized it was a huge waste of money for me as all I do is dungeons all day. This weapon constantly gets in the way.

• If you want to knock something, often times it’s a single mob- Use a hammer and have all the power and utility that a hammer provides.

• If you want to move multiple mobs, use a greatsword. Bam. Easy.

You throw away dps because you could be using a focus, and you throw away a blind/condi rem focus 4. If you need to stop projectiles you risk bumping mobs unless you position yourself and waste time when you could easily drop a WoR that will last longer and reflect projectiles.

LR:DR if you think shield is great in dungeons, try hammer. More prot and more control. I need not even mention RoW and hammer 3.

The Aegis effect clipping into the shield(s) and covering it up is pretty much the only thing that has stopped me from making The Flameseeker Prophecies.

I play my Guardian as a main, and as such have made all my Legendary weapons for that specific character (except Incinerator which was the first one I made, closer to launch, and that is for the most part (annoyingly) collecting dust on my Thief). Any remaining ones I would be interested in making (the shield included), would also go to that Guardian, as I am not really going to start making more legendary weapons for other professions, when I hardly play them at all.

Arguing about it’s viability in x, y and z aside—To me, Aegis ruins shields, period. I don’t think there is a single shield that actually looks decent with Aegis covering it up, though that can come down to personal preference I guess. In my opinion it’s an unnecessarily bloated visual cue, far more in your face than any other buff there is in the game. Not to mention that you can still activate Aegis on demand, and can as such block a hard hit if you can predict-/see it coming. I’ve often used it to burn some of the Initiative from thieves that may be attacking me as well. With all the spell effects going off during group-combat, I would be surprised if people actually look for the visual Aegis over the buff icon.

Also as a “healer”-support character, I quite like the Mace and Shield combo. It fits nicely together with Staff for some quite decent sustained healing and buffing towards your group. Oh, and I like how The Flameseeker Prophecies looks, when Aegis isn’t there ruining it. That is another reason as for why I’d like to make it of course, looks, but I won’t pursue it when I know I’ll get annoyed about Aegis ruining the visual aesthetics.

On a side-note; It’s ridiculous that it shows up with Town Clothes as well.
