I’m going to build ascended armor on my guardian. And I’m not really sure which stats to build and I don’t really want build anything because it’s not cheap and easy to build ascended gear. I’m mostly doing PvE content so the gear stats need to be pve oriented. I would like to hear opinions from older players and build ascended armor that will last.

Barring any major changes to the way PvE works, Berserker is and will likely remain your first priority for armor.

Should you choose to bring it somewhere other than pve, I’d suggest knights. You’ll need the toughness in wvw, and a power/prec split is more beneficial than a power/ ferocity. Nothing much else will provide a better split oof damage and defense.

Yeah I was thinking first to do Berserker but then my sustain is not good and for fractals I’m not sure how it’s gonna go. Knights is too good option because of extra toughness. I got 3. suggestion and that would be soldier’s armor that gives me power and yet more durability with health and toughness. I’m not really sure anymore but I think Berserker would be nice to have just durability is what makes me worry.

I mained a Guardian in 2013 and a Necro in 2014.

It’s probably best to play for 2-3 solid months on your guard min maxing on all the various scenarios in different environments before committing.

Ascended is horribly expensive and it’s a commitment that it’s really hard to undo due to time and gold. Ascended armor will be what you are wearing for most of your time.

I spend most of my time in wvw. And I only have 1 set of full ascended for my guard. And 2 pieces for the Necro.

If you’re going to build something other than Berserker, I’d do Soldier rather than Knight’s. The DPS loss isn’t so great as you would expect, because the additional Vit and Toughness will boost your Sharpening Stone buff and give you more power than Knights would, which offsets some of the loss of Precision compared to Knights. It also increases your benefit from the Fury buff. It’ll also make you a lot tougher in WvW. WvW isn’t just about raw armor, you need buffer HP as well to resist bursts.

This is true. You could go full power stacking with soldiers. I was stuck in my own ascended armor thoughts and could only really think of knights and cavalier. I also use force of will (?) For health, as is basically +6k from 0 on honor, and honor is already useful for defense.

Dont worry about it. In any scenario in this game you can totally alter your stats through amulet, acccessories and rings. Rings and accessories are easy to get.

Why not mix soldiers and berserkers in your armor, berserker accessories and fine tune the set up for different gamemodes with a mix of amulets and rings.

Most damage comes from choice of traits, not gear, and no one can tell if you have two pieces of soldiers or keepers in a pve run as long as you have a proper build.

What you really need to figure out is what runes you should use, that is the tricky part imo. Runes different greatly but rune of strength is a good choice in all gamemodes.

With the current buffs to it, I think I would now opt for Celestial for most things. 90% of the builds I have looked at lately, when you swap everything to Celestial they are better. Only drawback is lowish power.

There is your very typical sort of build for WvW and it has excellent stats with just Celestial. Swap weapon, food and build and boom you are all set for pve as well, maybe not perfect to the beserker crowd but pretty decent.

I’m pretty sure you said PvE but wanted to throw this out there. Don’t worry about Ascended gear for WvW. Solo roaming maybe but small tactical teams or zergs you can run naked and still do fine.

I went with celestial. Its pretty versatile. If i need to make adjustments to builds, i just change accesories, which are alot easier to get than armor. Its simply more convenient not having to make several different sets of armor for different things. Weapons aren’t that much trouble to make either compared to armor and i can switch that too if need be.

I can’t advise full celestial because you really can’t afford to drop that much power in PVE.

There are really just two fundamental approaches to choosing stats:

1. Min/max approach whihc typically leads to the MOST offensive (full zerk) or the MOST defensive (um, clerics??)
2. SOme kind of balanced optimization: I can only think of the method to choose stats this way as a more practical testing approach. Regardless, it’s been shown that if you have to choose any offensive stat over another, power is the one to focus on.

Based on these two things, celestial is a unoptimized set of armor in either situation. Now, there is a caveat … it does WvW and PVE equally. The question is if you NEED that equal stat spread for each. You really don’t because it’s cheap to have a WvW set and a PVE setup.

I would advise OP consider making the most offensive ascended gear they can handle in PVE. Likely zerker. If you need to swap out into something more defensive, you don’t need a whole new set of ascended armor … just an extra piece or two.
