I was trying to build a condition damage Guardian, but it just wasn’t working out. Don’t get me wrong you can crank the condition damage up, but you would need to sacrifice hp, boons or any other defensive means.

So I tried to proc fire and bleed using retaliation and blocking while also having some protection, and these are the two builds I came up with.

This one uses retaliation while applying bleed and fire, it works well but direct damage is low, you need to get hit in order to drop them down.

With this one blocking will proc fire, and might, bleed comes with the territory. Critical damage is pretty good here. For this one to work you will need to manage your blocks including your heal.

The differences should be clear between the two. The first one is more passive, and will probably work well with Thieves and Mesmers, due to the retaliation. Second one is more active but it will drop the tanky Necros and Warriors.

Am still trying to decide which one works better, so feedback would be appreciated.

I found the best for me was to go with passive VoJ procing

To make that more effective, I needed Virtue 30 for Permeating Wrath and Supreme Justice. I also excluded hammer because it’s slow.
To make Virtue 30 ‘not wasted’, I went boon increase and shouts, with GS+Mace/Focus. That gives me decent speed hits and boon procs
I’m still deciding on the rest. Gear is a complete mess of Rampagers and Carrion. In all, it’s a long term project. Not much is definite at the moment. It still melts tanks and stealthers though.
