Guardians are one of the strongest WvW classes – if not the strongest. You literally can’t have too many of them. They also work well in small groups, sPvP and dungeons.

Whether you run an AH-shout build or a cleric’s build – guardians are seen on the front lines and are often the last to go down. Aside from heals they have access to blocks, invulnerability, stability, protection, regeneration, rejuvenation.

Somebody in this made the argument that necros have Death Shroud. Death Shroud lasts 3 seconds against any decent group, lose access to your main skills and can’t heal. When necros have to rely on Death Shroud to save themselves, they are often delaying their inevitable defeat.

The problem the OP might have faced is charging or simply facing a sufficiently superior enemy force(whether by numbers or skill). In that case the guardian can’t really frontline well as he will go down fast and can’t run away well. So if you are going PUG vs an organized group – you might not do so well – but that’s more a problem of your team/group/server.

Somebody complaining about a Guardian because of what Warriors have, well that is a first. Guardians are amongst the strongest WvW classes and I would say it is more essential to have them more than any other class.

And in short, no Guardians do not need an extra HP boost to deal with conditions. Guardians already have a lot of ways to deal with conditions. USE THEM. They have lots of blocks to mitigate even being hit by conditions. They have lots of heals and regen. USE THEM.

@ the OP

Have you even played a full zerker warrior? If you have you would know that 18K HP doesn’t mean kitten. Unless you plan to fire kill shots all day (which are channeled, and can easily be blocked and dodged) you are literally going to get 2 shot as soon as you step within 600 range with literally nothing but your base HP protecting you. Full zerk warrior builds with 1000 toughness are BAD in WvW.

A full zerker guardian is way more tankier than a full zerker warrior, I hope you realize that as well. Why? A warrior cannot generate any protection, aegis or heal nearly as much as a Guardian can. A warrior does not have the grand utilities that a guardian has. A guardian is way more sustainable than a warrior.

Unless you go a shout build, or go melandru/lemongrass/dogged march, the average Warrior cannot handle conditions very well and are just shut down because of it. The average Guardian handles conditions a lot better than a warrior. And if a warrior does go shout build, their damage is kittened to the point where it is comparable to a Guardian. The damage disparity between a Warrior and Guardian isn’t a whole lot if both are specced in PVT and tanky traits.

I have a guardian and I have never had any problems with conditions. The only main problem I have had was mobility. And Guardians do have a few options for mobility.

And please, if you know nothing about the warrior, please don’t compare it to what is “wrong” with the Guardian. Because I guarantee you the average Warrior are way more envious of your protection, boon generation, heals, condition removal than a Guardian is envious of our 18K HP pool. If I had a choice, I would rather have a 10K HP pool with all the Guardian’s cool boon generation and utilities. In WvW, a Warrior depends on a Guardian to generate boons for them in large scale combat.

Seems like you would need sword/greatsword and JI to accomplish this. Why would anyone want to roll meditations, greatsword+sword just to run down thieves?

Seems like you would need sword/greatsword and JI to accomplish this. Why would anyone want to roll meditations, greatsword+sword just to run down thieves?

Because being able to run down one of the most mobile classes is extremely handy both in chasing and escaping.

With soldier armor and 20-30 points into honor you should have close to 18-19k health which is superb considering all the other defensive mechanics we have. Just dedicate your weapons and trinkets to damage and you have a sturdy powerhouse right there.

I play as a guardian with PVT gear. I have 23k hp. It all depends on your build. My offensive guardian build had like 14k hp. If you want to have high hp add a lot of vitality. The max HP i have ever had as a guardian was 24.5k with foods and wvw buffs.
